…Creates New World Record

Delta State today,  added to her Gold Medal haul in spectacular fashion at the ongoing National Sports Festival, as it clinched the top pos1ition in the para powerlifting event at the Multi-purpose Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

In the women’s 41kg category, Esther Nworgu of Team Delta surpassed her previous world record to win Gold, after she lifted 115kg.

An emotional Nworgu attributed the feat to God and described the victory as long overdue as she had put in so much effort in training after coming very close in previous national events.

“I dedicate this feat to God because I know I do not have my own strength. I am so excited because I know I have worked hard for it. I have put much effort into it. I believe I can do this now. I competed in Abuja 2018, where I won silver and in Edo where I also won silver. This is my third national festival and my first gold medal. It means a lot to me”, she said.

Recall that in October, at the African Para-Powerlifting Championships in Cairo, Egypt, the powerlifter, won her first African title, after lifting 114kg, to surpass the 111kg which was set by Guo Lingling of China in June, this year.
