The 2026 Appropriation Bill presented by the Delta Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori  has been revealed to significantly strengthen security across the state.

This was detailed in the budget, with major provisions aimed at improving operational efficiency, intelligence gathering, and community protection.

A key feature of the budget is the funding of the Delta State Security Trust Fund (DSSTF), which will support the procurement of modern equipment, vehicles, surveillance systems, and the establishment of a state-wide Command and Control Centre. The budget is projected to boost rapid response capabilities and enhance coordination among security agencies.

The budget also prioritizes expanding security presence in rural and riverine communities, a move analysts say could reduce kidnapping, armed robbery, oil theft, and other criminal activities by dismantling long-standing hideouts.

Beyond direct security investments, the budget’s emphasis on road infrastructure, youth empowerment, agricultural expansion, and social welfare programmes is expected to indirectly curb crime by creating jobs, improving mobility, and strengthening community trust in government.

The administration’s social protection initiatives, particularly support for widows, vulnerable groups, and low-income families, are also projected to reduce socioeconomic pressures that often contribute to crime.

Overall, security observers described the budget as a holistic approach that combines technology, community engagement, improved infrastructure, and economic empowerment to address insecurity across the state.
