The Delta State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) Mr. Alao Olusegun, has admonished Corps members, to be good ambassador of their families, the Scheme and themselves.
Mr Alao gave the advise during the closing ceremony of the orientation course for Batch ‘B’ Stream I of the corps members deployed to the state, at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku.
He said with the three weeks Orientation course that has prepared them mentally and physically for the tasks ahead, it is expected that they represent the Scheme positively.
He advised them to avoid unnecessary journeys as such could expose them to risks of road accidents.
Alao appealed to Corps employers to provide an enabling environment for the Corps members to discharge their duties optimally bearing in mind the statutory responsibility of their welfare packages.
He also encouraged them to shun any form of illegal dealings that negate the lofty ideals of the Scheme.
The State Cordinator appreciated the Governor of the state for his support towards the Scheme in the state and the friendly people of Issele- Uku under be leadership of the Obi of Issele Uku kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Agbogidi Obi Engr. Nduka, for creating a peaceful environment for them throughout the period of Orientation.
The State governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner of Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, urged the Corps members to be vanguards of rural development, by bracing up to the challenges of developing the rural areas, so as to ensure the furtherance of the objectives of NYSC in the state.
While commending their comportment and positive attitudes throughout the period the course lasted, the governor urged them to accept the call to national service with a good sense of purpose and transparent patriotism.
He appealed that they respect the cultural norms and traditions of the people they come in contact with and learn to show understanding and adaptability as a way of justifying some of the reasons for the national service.
He advised that their actions and activities help deepen the current calm and peaceful co-coexistence amongst Deltans and residents of the state, adding that they tap from the rich experience garnered to make the best of the situation they find themselves both during their primary assignment and other future endeavours.
He said as leaders of both today and tomorrow, they are expected to be discreet and objective in their analysis of national events to enable them play the stabilizing roles of bringing about peace, understanding and development in the country.
Oborevwori urged them to be part of the development efforts of the State Government, adding that his administration was pursuing sustainable development anchored on MORE agenda.
He added that it was committed to the sustenance of peace and security, developing the abundant human resources in the state, the provision of basic infrastructure, opening the rural areas and making the state more investment friendly. I plead with you to be part of this process of providing sustainable development both to the State and its people.
Governor Sheriff urged them to moderate the ecstasy of youthful exuberance in all your undertakings during the year.
