Concerned citizens of Obodo-Ugwa Ogume community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State has called on the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as a matter of urgency to intervene in the intimidation and molestation of indigenes.
They made the call during a protest by the elders, women and youths of the community to stop incessant harassment of indigenes, by the uniformed armed men led by Captain Abomah under the instruction of the immediate past Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr Aslem Oyibo who has caused unrest in the community.
Addressing newsmen during the protest, the community spokesperson, Chief Oju King Nejichi accused Mr Oyibo of financial mismanagement to the tune of seven hundred and fourteen million naira, as well as unlawful imposition of Emeka Maduagu as his successor.
In a document signed by the twenty two families that makes up Obodo-Ugwa Ogume community, they appealed to the State Governor, to instruct captain Agbomah to stop invading, intruding and obstructing the peace and people of Obodo-Ugwa Ogume community as the community is not a war zone.
Further alledging that Oyibo said he will use military men to close down the community and that no one will be alive after the upcoming military invasion.
The community leaders earnestly requested that the Army and Police should be stopped from excorting and backing Anslem Oyibo to avoid clash as the community have over endured their excesses.
Adding that the motorcycle of one of the indigene, Mr Christian Nwaocha which was seized by Captain Abomah and his team on the instruction of Oyibo on their invasion of the community be returned to avoid creating more issues in the community.
According to the placards-carrying protesters with different inscriptions such as “Anslem return our community money”, “military men stop harassing Obodo-Ugwa”, Mr Anslem Oyibo whose tenure ended on May 9, 2023 has blatantly refused to vacate office and terrorising the community by using military men to intimate and frame lies to implicate the community youths and harass the peace of Obodo-Ugwa Ogume community.
Affirming that Chief Ifemeni Thomas as presented by the Head of Umu-Akalum Family, Chief Okwa Ojega Chidi, is the Chairman of CDC in Obodo-Ugwa Ogume, they urged Mr Oyibo to give account of his stewardship and hand over to the newly constituted leadership.
They also called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and other antigraft agencies to probe Oyibo led administration so as to recover the seven hundred and fourteen million naira being the cost of inflation in project executed and other money embezzled while in office.
