The latest album by Ekobe music crown prince, Azuka Moweta, and his Anioma Brothers Band of Africa has sparked widespread acclaim, becoming the talk of both the global music scene and his hometown of Asaba.
Titled Kenechukwu, the seven-track album is already being described as a cultural masterpiece, blending the traditional Ekobe sound of Asaba with classic highlife rhythms. The project stands out not only for its rich musical composition but also for its heartfelt tributes to notable Asaba figures.
Among those honoured are renowned trumpeter Zeal Onyia, the revered Asagba of Asaba, Epiphany Azinge, and the late Obi Nwanze Oduah. Through songs like “Kenechukwu,” “Odogwu Ahaba,” and “Onye Zusia,” Moweta pays homage to these personalities, weaving gratitude and cultural pride into his music.
The album includes tracks such as “Izunwanne Ka,” “Ndi Di Mma,” “Ogalanya Sound System,” “Nyem Nkem,” and an instrumental piece, all showcasing a fusion of indigenous and contemporary sounds. Notably, “Onye Zusia” is dedicated to Zeal Onyia, further emphasizing the album’s tribute theme.
Kenechukwu follows the success of Moweta’s previous release, Ekobe Global, which gained international recognition across Europe and the Americas. Music enthusiasts say the new album builds on that momentum, offering a more refined and expansive sound, including—for the first time—a brass horn section in Ekobe music.
Speaking on the project, Nnamdi Moweta, founder of Odogwu Entertainment, praised the artist’s dedication, noting that the album represents a significant evolution in his musical journey. He described the work as “vintage” and predicted a strong social and cultural impact.
Lucas Da Silva of Palenque Records also commended the collaboration, highlighting the partnership’s role in discovering and promoting African talent on the global stage.
Creative Director Kenechukwu Ibedu, who supervised the production and served as A&R, described the album as a “masterpiece,” adding that audiences are yet to witness the full potential of Azuka Moweta.
Recorded in Anambra State and engineered by Ijele Amichi, the album was executive produced by Nnamdi Moweta, Kenechukwu Ibedu, and Lucas Da Silva. It is currently available on major streaming platforms worldwide.
Adding to its growing popularity, internationally acclaimed DJ Captain Planet has already released a remix of “Izunwanne Ka,” further energizing dance floors and expanding the album’s reach among diaspora audiences.
With its blend of cultural homage, musical innovation, and global appeal, Kenechukwu is fast becoming one of the most celebrated albums in Asaba, particularly during a season marked by heightened social and cultural activities in the Delta State capital.
