…As Obakina, Jewo- ebi Charges Female Journalists To Report Gender Based Violence.
Female Journalists in Delta State have been advised to report any activity of violence against women and girl child in the society.
The Executive Director of Caring Heart Initiative, Mrs Grace Ese Obakina gave the advice during one day capacity building on SGBV and information dissemination through networking among media practitioners, NGOs, CSOs and other stakeholders organized by the state executive of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalist, (NAWOJ).
Obakina charged the women as information experts to report any manhandling of women and children as they have a lot of role to play in mitigating gender based violence.
According to her exposing violent acts can help reduce the damage it can cause the victims, adding that constant reportage would help curb the menace in the society.
The Executive Director admonished them to ensure they collaborate with sister agencies to help achieve good result that would be in the favour of the victims.
In the same Vein, the Executive Director, Working Finger International Initiative, Mrs Eris Jewo- ebi, said leadership was all about team work, hence the need for them to synergise in the fight against abuse on women in the society.
She commended the state Chairman of NAWOJ for her leadership style which has united the female Journalists in love.
She advised them to invest in themselves by becoming compliant in the ICT world, indulge in politics and also support their fellow gender when they aspire for any good position.
Earlier the State Chairman of NAWOJ, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo said as an association that was needed in all sector of the economy, as mediator to intervene on behalf of the voiceless in the society, they have to stand firm to protect the right of women in the society.
Unobunjo said the training was in a bid to ensure that female Journalists in the state take the lead in fighting the course of the association and becoming the envy of other states.
She said her administration would ensure the training and retraining of members of the association, who would in turn reciprocate by training others, as no member would be left out.
The state Chairman of the association commended her executives and members for their peaceful disposition and unity after the last election which brought her to office.
