In a bid to refresh and upgrade workers’ prowess for effective discharge of their duties in their various stations, The Delta State Local Government Service Commission have trained 75 Budget officers.
The Local Government Service Commission in collaboration with Harlov Services has organised a two-day training workshop for Budget officers of the Unified Local Government Service of Delta State, at the Conference Hall, Olorogun Felix Ibru Secretariat, Asaba.
The Chairman of the Commission, Hon.(Dcn) Joseph Otirhue who was represented by the Commission’s first member, Pst Chukwuka Greatman, said, the Commission aims to keep the mandate of building an effective workforce to meet with the expected objectives of the third tier of government.
Speaking, the Chairman said, the Commission intends to expose its workforce to the new trends emerging in the world, in order to keep them in line with contemporary work techniques and ethics.
According to him, the seminar with the theme, ‘Administrative /Political Issues Affecting Budget Implementation’, was carefully selected and designed to bring the Budget and Planning Officers in the Local Government up to date, on how to manage the meagre resources available to each Council as there has been a downturn in funding available to the third tier of government in recent times.
The Commission’s Chairman, implored participants to make good use of the opportunity to interact and give the best to their Local Government Areas.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr Donatus Chime commended the Commission for the training and promised to practice what they have learnt.
Some of the lectures taken by well grounded resource persons, in the training workshop amongst others are, Analysis of Budget/Budgeting Process in the Public Service, Budget Implementation And Control and The Problem of Budget Implementation In the Public Service.
