The Delta State Government, through the Directorate of Transport, has granted a two-week extension to motorcycle and tricycle riders to purchase riders cards, aprons, emblems, and stickers.
The statewide sensitization campaign took off in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, at various motorcycle and tricycle parks.
Commissioner for the Directorate of Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, who was represented by Permanent Secretary Engr. Vincent Omoniyi, noted that the campaign aims to inform riders about the importance of obtaining the required items for security profiling.
Agofure highlighted the importance of the campaign for security profiling of commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, saying security was paramount in the state.
The Commissioner noted that the sensitization campaign was relevant to enforce Law M7,which stipulates that each rider should be identifiable by their apron, QR code sticker, riders card, and code on their motorcycles and tricycles.
Agofure stressed that riders are urged to purchase the required items from Commercial Motorcycles and Tricycles Operators Association (COMTOA) offices across the state.
He said government has subsidized the items to ₦7,500 to ensure affordability, adding that genuine riders complying with policies are unlikely to commit crimes.
The Commissioner warned that defaulters who failed to comply with government directive will have their motorcycles and tricycles impounded by the Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIO), security agents, and COMTOA Taskforce after the grace period expires.
He explained that the Directorate of Transport recognizes COMTOA as the sole motorcycle and tricycle association in Delta State.
COMTOA Chairman, Chief Obi Nzete, represented by the state treasurer, Comrade Prince Miller, commended the state government for the initiative and assured that COMTOA will ensure riders comply with the government’s directive.
