…As Oborevwori Charges them to contribute towards developmental growth in the state

Delta State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Delta State, Mr. John Vandi Kwaghe, has revealed the presence of one thousand four hundred and sixty four (1,464) prospective Corps members in the state.

Kwaghe disclosed this in his address during the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Orientation Course at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku.

He said the six hundred and eighty two (682) males and seven hundred and eighty two (782) females have been duly registered for the orientation course.

While commending their conduct, he said it was characterized by peace, discipline, and enthusiasm for the activities lined up for the Orientation Course and entire service year.

He said their positive attitude was a strong indication of their readiness to embrace the ideals of the scheme and their commitment to serving Nigeria with diligence.

He urged them to embrace every activity with enthusiasm and strive to distinguish themselves for honours and awards throughout the service year.

“Be disciplined, resourceful, and innovative, as these qualities will spur and set you apart and open doors to future opportunities”, he advised.

He described the NYSC Orientation Course as a foundational aspect of the service year, deliberately designed to instill discipline, foster unity, and prepare Corps members for their roles in nation-building.

According to the state Cordinator, the Corps members will in the next three weeks, undergo various engaging activities, including leadership training, security awareness, drills, lectures, and skills acquisition under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

“ These Initiatives are carefully. structured and designed to equip them for the challenges ahead and provide them with tools to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation”.

Kwaghe commended the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborewwori, for his unwavering support to the activities of the NYSC, adding that the State Government’s commitment to the welfare of Corps members and the development of the Orientation Camp has been exemplary.

He appealed for further intervention in areas such as the provision utility vehicle for corps inspection, vehicle for the state Coordinator, an ambulance to support the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme of the NYSC and other emergency purposes, a 150 KVA generator, the camp perimeter fence to enhance the security of Corps members and to protect government huge investment in the camp.

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner of Youth, Barr. Trakiriowei Thankgod Harry, while congratulating them on the successful completion of their various academic programs, charged them to contribute to the growth and development of this state.

He encouraged them to actively participate in all activities during the orientation period, as the orientation course is therefore not just an introduction to the service but also a chance to prepare them morally, physically and mentally for the tasks ahead, both during and after the service.

The governor assured them of safety, adding that the people of Delta State were warm, hospitable and eager to work with.

“As you settle into your roles. I urge you to embrace the values of discipline, teamwork and respect cultural diversities, which the NYSC emphasizes”.
