Delta 2022 Publicity Sub-Committee Chairman and Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu advised Journalists to desist from disseminating wrong information to the public.
Aniagwu gave the advise while briefing Journalists alongside the Ondo State Commissioner for Sports, Mr Bukola Olapade at the Media centre in the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
He said painting the national Sport Festival black before the public would misinform them and it was unethical.
While commending some of them for their effective coverage of the sporting activities, He frowned at some ugly reportage on poor accommodation provisions for athletes and officials, adding that such wrong reportage would send wrong information to the public
He said the provision of accommodation was not the responsibility of any host since the inception of sports festivals in the country but that of their media Organisations.
He pointed that the state government had ensured the provision of maximum comfort for the athletes and other individuals participating in the games.
The Commissioner said the sports festival was an avenue for discovering new talents, as old records would be broken and new ones set, providing a trade Fair where people can exhibit their products for sales, and enjoy the hospitality which the state is known for.
Speaking, Aniagwu said as at day four of the event, team Delta had so far won 43 gold, 22 silver, 13 bronze and still counting on Day 4 of the sports festival.
Aniagwu said the state was setting record in track and field events, and would set a standard that would be difficult to beat in the closing formalities.
He thanked the athletes, officials, spectators, the press and security agencies for their outstanding cooperation and urged them to sustain the tempo to the end of the games.
On his part, Mr Bukola Olapade, applauded Delta State Government for setting the best standard in the hosting of the National Sports Festival, adding that Delta 2022 was the very best he had ever witnessed.
Olapade urged the Pressmen to be objective and join hands in promoting the positive in their reportage, adding that the state governor’s support towards driving the economy by ensuring that traders do their business without any financial commitment to the state government, is what the media should not fail to report.
