Delta State Government has approved the sum of N15.7 billion for the third phase of flood control measures in Warri, Effurun, and environs in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas of the state.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza immediately after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori on Thursday.
The Commissioner for Information said the third phase of the control measures will cover Airport Road, Ugborikoko, Bendel Estate, and Ugboroke and environs in Uvwie and Warri South Local Government Areas.
Dr Osuoza explained the flood control measures in Warri/Effurun and Environs Phase 3 is a major project that was approved to address some of these challenges.
“It is worth noting that phases 1 and 2 of this project were awarded a long time ago. Phase 1 is already completed, while Phase 2 is at 85 per cent completion. Phase 3, which requires an estimated sum of N15.7 billion, covers some critical areas in Uvwie and Warri South”, he added.
Osuoza also disclosed that the Council approved a counterpart fund of N600 million for the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG Conditional Grants Scheme for Delta State.
He specified that the Governor and the State Executive Council are familiar of the difficulty endured by Nigerians and Deltans, and have resolved to alleviate their plight.
Also speaking, the Director-General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Development Agency (WUEDA), Prince Godwin Ejinyere, confirmed that the Agency is presently working on a total solution for flood control measures in the Warri Stadium area, adding that design work is ongoing around Enerhen Community, Igbudu, and Odibo Estate, among others area.
