Delta State Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa in his proactiveness and responsiveness towards climate change issues has approved the participation of the Ministry of Environment in Cop 27 Conference.
Chief Godspower Asiuwhu the Commissioner for Environment made this known to Pressmen through phone interview in Asaba, the state capital.
He said it was in a view to building on previous success and paving the way for the future ambitions to effectively tackle the global challenge of climate change, that the governor gave the approval.
The Commissioner for Environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu led The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr Mrs Mininie Oseji with other delegates from the state on Sunday, November 6, 2022 to the United Nations Framework Convention ( UNFCCC- Cop 27 ), Conference holding in SHARM EL-SHEILK, Egypt.
Asiuwhu said the Conference would have delegates from different part of the country to take action towards achieving the world’s collective climate goals as agreed under the Paris agreement and the convention.
He said that it was expected at Cop 27 that Government would evaluate progress on climate pledges centered around cutting emissions, phasing at fossils fuels, ramping up renewable energy used and ensuring that richer countries support poor nations bearing the burnt of climate change.
Adding that with the Lifestyle for Environment at COP 27, Delivering for people and the Planet that the ongoing convention where to impact knowledgeable ways on Climate Change in our environment.
The Commissioner said a collaborative climate and innovation exchange-zero-carbon future pavilion is where climate advocates, it is believed that government officials, industry leaders and experts from around the world would take on the hardest climate and energy questions, explore solutions and highlight opportunities to transform the global energy to address climate change.
