The Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. (High Chief) Ezenyili Kelvin Obi has described the amicable reconciliation between the Royal Majesties of Asaba and Oko Kingdoms as a landmark achievement and a new dawn for peace, unity, and development in the area.
Speaking during the reconciliation ceremony of the Royal Majesties of Asaba and Oko Kingdoms at the Council Secretariat in Asaba, Ezenyili expressed immense joy over the successful end of a prolonged legal and traditional dispute that had lasted for nearly a decade.
According to him, “Today marks an epoch-making event in Oshimili South Local Government Area with the amicable reconciliation of both Royal Majesties of Asaba and Oko Kingdoms. Without an iota of doubt, I am the happiest person amongst us all”.
The council Chairman recalled that the legal battle between both kingdoms began in 2016, characterized by a series of injunctions, judgments, and appeals.
He emphasized the right of every aggrieved party to seek redress in court but urged communities to prioritize mediation and dialogue over prolonged conflicts.
“Considering the bigger picture, I implore every civic community to embrace conflict mediation and resolution as this promotes economic development and strengthens interpersonal relationships,” he said.
“It is always best to open channels for honest conversations where grievances can be aired and solutions found together.”
Ezenyili, who has served two tenures as Council Chairman, explained that his commitment to peacebuilding began during his first tenure in 2021 when he initiated dialogue between both royal stools. He stated that though his early efforts yielded little result, perseverance and divine guidance led to the reconciliation being celebrated.
He extended special appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for granting approval for what he described as the “second voyage of reconciliation,” noting that the exercise marked a historic milestone in the history of Oshimili South.
Council’s cil Chairman also commended both Royal Majesties and their palace chiefs for their maturity, patience, and commitment during the mediation process, describing their conduct as a demonstration of true leadership and a desire for lasting peace.
He further used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to accountability and transparency by announcing the Statement of Account for Monthly Stipends of traditional rulers within the local government.
According to him, the total sum preserved in the Council’s special account as of September 2025 stands at ₦522,797,882.57 (Five Hundred and Twenty-Two Million, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Seven Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Two Naira, Fifty-Seven Kobo).
He assured that original copies of the financial documents would be handed over to the relevant traditional authorities for verification.
In conclusion, Chief Ezenyili expressed gratitude to God for the successful reconciliation and prayed that peace would continue to reign in Oshimili South.
“I appreciate the good people of Oshimili South for the trust reposed in me to serve in this capacity. My prayer is that this peace will be enduring in Jesus’ name, Amen,” he said.
The event was attended by the two royal fathers and palace chiefs, all of whom hailed the Chairman’s role in restoring unity and mutual respect between the two historic kingdoms.
