In a heartwarming ceremony held at the Machame Cultural Tourism Centre, the home of Africa’s tallest mountain, Kilimanjaro, Valerie of Africa was celebrated for her remarkable expedition in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
The event, organized by the Good Women in Tourism in Machame, honoured Valerie for her historic hike up Mount Kilimanjaro, a symbolic journey she undertook to advocate for the empowerment and advancement of the African girl child. The celebration 1was filled with emotion, cultural performances, and heartfelt tributes recognizing her courage and dedication to inspiring young girls across the continent.
Receiving the award, Valerie expressed deep gratitude to the women in tourism for their recognition, describing the experience as both humbling and uplifting.
“I was so happy and felt really elated,” she said. “My mind and heart opened up to so many things, especially learning that it’s not about the amount of money you have you create with the little you have.”
