The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori says Warri Centric 10km Run, which is coordinated by Compos Mentis Legal Practitioners, CMLP, is an annual sports event with the potency of restoring the lost glory of Warri, Uvwie and their environs, in line with the More Agenda of his administration.
Governor Oborevwori, represented by the Director General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt Agency, WUEDA, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere, stated this at the weekend while declaring the 2025 edition of the event o“en at the NNPC Housing Complex, Warri.
The Governor told the participants that his administration was determined to revive the economy, beauty, environmental sanity, and security of the Oil City, through WUEDA, adding that the event would help to boost the efforts of the Agency and the State Govt.
While commending the organizers of the sports event for their initiative, Governor Oborevwori said Govt decided to identify with it because of its numerous physical, health, and cognitive benefits to both the participants and the organizers.
He, however, advised anyone interested in participating in the event, especially those with existing health conditions, to consult their doctors for medical advice to avoid emergency situations during the exercise.
A leader of Compos Mentis Legal Practitioners, CMLP, Barrister Mrs. Joy Akpedeye thanked Governor Oborevwori for identifying with, and supporting the sports event. She said CMLP decided to expand the scope of the event this year because the Govt had repaired the failed roads, making it very safe for participants to run freely and safely on them.
Mrs. Akpedeye said the 2025 edition of the event was the 6th, adding that the first five editions were 5km run within the NNPC Housing Complex but that this year’s edition was expanded to 10km.
The race started from NNPC Housing Complex gate, went through the Delta Careers Link Road, to Airport Road up to Angle Park, back to Airport Road down to First Bank, and back to NNPC Housing Complex.
She said Compos Mentis Legal Practitioners looked forward to partnering with WUEDA towards organizing the event in the years ahead, with a promise to improve on all aspects of the exercise.
Earlier, participants were taken through aerobic exercises to warm them up for the event, before moving out for the race which had prizes attached to first, second and third positions. The 7th edition of the event comes up in 2026.
