The Director General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt Agency, (WUEDA), Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere says “the Delta State Government is fully committed to restoring the lost glory of the Oil City in 2025 and beyond.” Hon. Ejinyere stated this on New Year Day in an interview with newsmen at his Orerokpe Country Home.
He said when he took charge of the Agency as the DG a year ago, he was ready to work with his team in line with the More Agenda of the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori; “and as a Warri Boy, I knew the development needs of the Oil Metropolis and how to restore its lost glory,” he said.
The WUEDA DG noted that all hands were on deck to complete all ongoing projects, and give priority attention to the needs of the residents of WUEDA’s mandate areas. He added that the road and flood control projects started by WUEDA under his watch, had all been completed in record time, and in line with international best practices.
He said although much still remained to be done, however, significant progress had been made, and the Agency was fully committed to the Governor’s resolve to restore the lost glory of the Oil City. He also promised that more projects would be completed before the end of 2025.
The Director General of WUEDA noted that the Agency had used swamp buggies to open up blocked waterways in the Metropolis, while many communities in the City which were hitherto disconnected by swamps had been connected with short bridges or culverts, courtesy of WUEDA.
In his words, “We are not in rivalry with other agencies but we are doing our beat to complement Govt’s efforts to bring the Oil City back to its glorious old days; we want to deliver on our corporate mandate, in line with the More Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.”
Prince Ejinyere said he would soon meet with the Chairman of Uvwie Local Govt and his Warri South Local Govt counterpart to map out modalities on how to stop the ugly cycle of cleaning and re-dumping of wastes into drains or unauthorized public places, stressing that “residents must know that no part of the Oil City is a dump site.”
He warned residents who indiscriminately dump refuse to block drainage channels, and also those who connect their sewage to open street gutters causing public health hazards to desist forthwith or face severe sanctions according to law, to serve as a deterrent to other offenders.
According to the DG, “We are committed to cleaning up and also protecting the City’s landscape from being degraded, in spite of stiff resistance from some quarters. We shall embark on the beautification of some strategic city locations through the planting of flowers before the end of this year.”
The WUEDA DG then thanked the Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering support for the Agency, which had led to the feats already achieved. He reassured residents of the Metropolis that more roads, drainage channels, bridges or culverts would be constructed and completed this year.
He, however, urged all residents of the City to help sustain the success recorded by Govt, by stopping the indiscriminate dumping of wastes in gutters/unauthorized places, urging them to register with PSPs towards achieving effective waste management in the City.
