…Says Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is indeed Mr. Project

Members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt. Agency, WUEDA, on Thursday inspected the flood control and road projects of the State Govt in the Agency’s mandate areas, as part of their oversight functions.
On arrival in WUEDA’s Office at DDPA Estate, Effurun, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Prince Osamuta Emeka and other members were received by WUEDA’s Director General, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere, two Board members, and top Management Staff of the Agency.
Hon. Osamuta Emeka said the Committee’s visit was not to witch haunt the Agency but to ascertain project positions to enable the Committee make adequate budgetary provisions for them in the 2025 budget proposal, as both the Committee and the Agency were partners in progress.
Next was a technical and critical look at the list of projects that was presented to the Committee by the DG, followed by questions to which Hon. Prince Ejinyere and WUEDA’s Director of Project and Works, Engr. Bemigho Ofoeyenor promptly provided answers.
Prince Ejinyere gave a detailed explanation of WUEDA’s mandate which includes the supervision of Govt projects, ensuring environmental sanitation, safety and security, and the beautification of the City. He said the Agency was taking necessary measures towards making Warri, Uvwie and their environs great again, in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Prince Ejinyere said he and the new Board started work barely a year ago, and praised the Management and Staff of the Agency for their support so far. According to him, “upon resumption, we carried out massive public sensitization and enlightenment on radio, television and the social media, urging stakeholders to support the Agency to enable it transform the mandate area into a befitting Metropolis that it deserves.”
“We also engaged other stakeholders such as Local Govt Chairmen, traditional rulers, as well as the heads of security agencies, and the executives of trade unions and markets in the area,” Hon. Ejinyere said.
The WUEDA DG also said that he inherited some flood control and road construction projects handled by CCECC and Levant Construction Company, some of which were ongoing, while others were already completed.
He disclosed that Governor Oborevwori awarded the Phase 3 of the flood control project along Airport Road and adjoining areas to CCECC, and another to de-flood Warri City Stadium and its environs to Levant Construction Company.
“Many other road construction projects have been awarded by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the Agency to supervise. The roads are Ope Street, Warri; Aya Street, by Praise Centre, Jakpa Road, and Ogbe Street, Effurun; Princess Agbaje/Michael Dotie Street, Warri, which are ongoing,” the DG said.
Hon. Godwin Ejinyere and his team then conducted members of the Committee round the sites of the Govt’s flood control and road projects where they observed a few technical lapses in some parts of the second and third phases, and urged the contractor, CCECC, to fix them immediately. The Committee also inspected the flood control project in and around the Warri City Stadium, handled by Levant Construction Company.
In an interview at the end of the inspection, the Chairman of the House Committee, Hon. Prince Osamuta Emeka thanked the Governor whom he called “Mr. Project,” and the DG for the good works they had been doing towards transforming Warri, Uvwie and their environs, through massive development projects in the area.
He also thanked the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor for giving them the opportunity to serve, and appealed to the residents of the Oil City to cooperate with the Agency for more development in the area for their own benefit.
The Chairman of Uvwie Local Govt, Hon. Onoriode Ofoni, and Mr. Obire, a football coach living on Ope Street, thanked the Governor and WUEDA for the development works they had done in the City.
Other members of the House Committee on WUEDA included its Deputy Chairman, Hon. Emakpor Edafe; Hon. Engr. Emmanuel Amatare Sinebe; Hon. Benson Obire; Hon. Frank Ngozi Chukwuka; Hon. Dafe Chukudi; Hon. Egbetamah Ovie Collins; as well as Mr. Atumah Vincent Igho, the Committee’s Clerk.
Two WUEDA Board members, Elder Isaac Itobi and Hon. Stanley Ebosa; the Agency’s Director of Admin and Finance, Mr. Simon Esi, his Project and Works counterpart, Engr. Bemigho Ofoeyeno, amongst others, accompanied Prince Ejinyere on the oversight inspection visit.
