The Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. ThankGod Trakiriowei and his entourage paid a working visit to the youths/stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party,(PDP) Oshimili South at the party’s LGA secretariat.
During the largely attended meeting, the Commissioner made it known that the need to visit the LGA was a directive from His Excellency the Governor of Delta State in the person of Rt . Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who felt the need to ensure that indigenes of Oshimili South LGA enroll for the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Nigerian Army, Police and Air force.
The Commissioner and his committee members applauded the party faithful for their role in ensuring victory for the party during the last general elections and previous elections with very impressive election results and insisted that Oshimili South must be rewarded when such opportunities for youth employment arise.
Responding to the Commissioner and his entourage, the party Chairman of PDP Oshimili South, Ogbueshi Chike Ifesiokwu welcomed the idea of remembering that PDP Oshimili South chapter needs to be remembered at all times especially in the area of empowerment due to the large and ever increasing population of eligible voters the party needs to manage.
The party Chairman also commended the efforts of the Governor of Delta State while assuring the Commissioner and his team that the leadership of the party will reach out to various groups and community leaders within the LGA to ensure that Oshimili South youths in particular, benefit from this opportunity.
The Chairman of Oshimili South local government Council in the person of Hon. Chief Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili applauded the efforts of His Excellency the Governor of Delta State and the committee members led by the Commissioner for Youth Development and notified the party faithful that the yearly empowerment exercise comprising of youths (male/female) and the elderly will commence within a short time as he specified that a minimum of 20 individuals will be empowered from each ward.
It was also made known that a limited number of palliatives for flood victims had been distributed to the various wards by the State Government.
Prior to the visit of the Commissioner at the same venue, the party Chairman Ogbueshi Chike Ifesiokwu called out the heads of various committees of PDP within the LGA to give situation reports on progress made by their various committees.
Elder Ebielim Maduemezia spoke on the need to adhere to the party constitution at all times amongst other words of advice while Pastor Greatman Chukwuka gave a detailed explanation on the activities of his committee.
Other committee heads spoke on progress made with special reference to the women mobilization committee who where applauded for their hard work and the media support group headed by Sir. Tobechukwu Okonkwo who encouraged party faithful at various wards to set up WhatsApp platforms at the ward level for leaders and supporters of the party to enable more party faithful have a sense of belonging and be updated about party activities in real time while adding that stakeholders should embrace the idea of wearing PDP accessories like face caps etc when attending party functions.
Notable party faithful who attended the meeting include past and serving Vice Chairmen and Councillors, former Council Chairmen, past and serving exco members of the party at both LGA and ward levels, community youth members amongst other stakeholders.
The closing remarks of the meeting was given by the party leader in the person of High Chief Edwin Uzor who applauded the achievements of the party so far and encouraged the party faithful to show more commitment by working harder to ensure victory at all times for the party.
