Ejinyere Presents Contract Document For Ekpan-Edjeba Road Maintenance, Asphalt Overlay, To Levant Construction Company

…Urges contractor to deliver project according to specifications before Christmas

By the Media Dept of WUEDA

The Director General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt Agency, WUEDA, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere has formally presented the contract award letter for the maintenance and asphalt overlay of the NNPC Housing Complex/Ekpan link Road, to Levant Construction Company.

The project which begins from Refinery Road by Ekpan Police station in Uvwie LGA, and ends at Edjeba junction in Warri South LGA, has a total length of 3km but with asphalt overlay of 2.4km. The WUEDA DG told the contractor (Levant) to complete the project before the end of 2024.

Prince Ejinyere told the Area Manager of Levant Construction Company, Engr. Ghassan Fadel that the contract entails the maintenance and asphalt overlay of the failed portions of the road, charging him to ensure that the job was executed according to specifications so that it could stand the test of time, and give government value for the money spent.

The WUEDA DG warned against civil unrests or community disturbances capable of stopping/delaying the road project, as Governor Oborevwori has zero tolerance for such behaviours. He then appealed to the community to fully cooperate with the firm and protect the project as they are the biggest beneficiaries of the road, one of the development initiatives of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Uvwie LGA.

Describing Levant as a trusted contractor with impeccable track records and good working relationship so far, the WUEDA DG said the firm had been a critical partner in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s More Agenda. Hon. Prince Ejinyere underscored the importance of the road to residents of the Oil Metropolis, and urged Levant to deliver quality job because “Governor Oborevwori does not tolerate shoddy jobs.

Receiving the letter of contract award from the WUEDA DG, the Area Manager of Levant, Engr. Ghassan Fadel thanked the Governor and WUEDA for the confidence reposed in his firm, and solicited for more cooperation from the Agency’s engineers and the community towards a smooth completion/delivery of the project in record time and according to specifications.

The Youth President of Ekpan Community, Mr. Victor Edavwe appreciated the DG and the Governor for the project, promising that the Community would protect the job from beginning to its logical completion. He said Ekpan youths had changed for the better, cooperating with contracting firms handling projects in the Community.

Prince Ejinyere and his team inspected the 30% completed Ejirue/Ovhokwo Road project off Ekpan link Road whose contract upward review had been approved by the Governor. He enjoined the contracting firm to re-mobilize to site immediately or risk the contract revoked by the Governor.

The DG was also at the construction site of Ogbe Avenue Road extension leading to Paul Ataine Street, Effurun, where he instructed the residents to leave the gates open in the day time for use by motorists to ease traffic congestion at PTI junction due to the constrution of the flyovers there. The project was said to be 70% completed.

On PTI Road near Masoje junction, Effurun, some Dangote Cement trucks were seen indiscriminately parked on the main road, causing traffic problems to other motorists. The DG then ordered the immediate deflation of their tyres as a warning, adding that “if the action repeats itself, the Agency will impound such trucks.”

He was also at the Oneya Road linking Ovie Palace Road to Effurun GRA, where he cautioned the landlord of House Number 5 to stop the bad habit of evacuating sewage on the road, or risk facing the legal consequences.

The DG was also at the construction site of a building close to Water Resources junction, Effurun, where he told the landlord to stop encroaching into Government’s land, the Effurun/Sapele Road right-of-way. He also warned other property developers in WUEDA’s mandate areas to stop such acts or face the wrath of the law.

A Board member of WUEDA, Elder Isaac Itobi, the Director of Project and Works of the Agency, Engr. Bemigho Ofoeyenor, and other officials of the Agency, accompanied Prince Ejinyere on the inspection visits.

NNPCL JV Partners: Ugborodo Youth Development Body Condemns Prince Edema’s Aactions

…Calls for accountability, clarification from Olu

The Ugborodo Community Youth Development Body (UYDB) has issued a strong condemnation of Prince Oritsetimeyin Edema, who claimed to be the “Sole Representative and Liaison to NNPCL and JIV Partners” of the Warri monarch, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, following a controversial letter published in the Vanguard newspaper on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

The body, representing the youth of Ugborodo, voiced its concerns over what they described as Edema’s reckless and disrespectful actions, particularly his involvement in a recent sabotage incident on the Dibi/Olero/Abiteye Trunkline, which he allegedly attempted to justify.

According to the group, Edema’s actions violated the traditions of the Itsekiri people and undermine the dignity of the Olu of Warri.

In their statement, signed by Mr Wilson Ejeh (President),Mr David Mamah ( Public Relations Officer), UYDB denounced Edema’s unauthorized use of the Olu’s insignia, arguing that such power is reserved exclusively for His Majesty.

They further emphasized that Edema’s self-appointed role as spokesperson for the Itsekiri people was not only unwarranted but also contrary to the established leadership structures within the community.

“The issue of employment with International Oil Companies (IOCs), which Edema has erroneously claimed to speak on, is within the jurisdiction of Ugborodo Community Youth Development Body, not his. Prince Edema cannot speak for us. His appointment is strictly limited to NNPCL, not Joint Venture (JV) partners as he has claimed”, they said.

UYDB clarified that Edema’s appointment as a liaison officer to NNPCL was clearly outlined by the Olu in a January 2024 letter, which did not grant him any authority over the broader Itsekiri community, let alone a mandate to speak on behalf of the oil-producing regions of Warri.

The group also voiced concern over the public’s perception of Edema’s intentions, suspecting that he may be complicit or sympathetic to the perpetrators of the recent vandalism.

“His actions raise the possibility that he knows the individuals behind the sabotage or is sympathetic to their cause,” they also said.

The Ugborodo Youths called on all IOCs operating in the region to disregard communication from Edema regarding employment or community matters.

They also urged the Olu of Warri to review Edema’s appointment and take necessary actions to avoid further damage to the credibility of the monarchy.

“We urge our Royal Majesty, the Olu of Warri, to act swiftly and review Prince Edema’s role before he brings further embarrassment to the esteemed throne and the people of Itsekiri,” the statement concluded.

The Ugborodo Community Youth Development Body also called for justice for those responsible for the attack on the trunkline, urging law enforcement to identify and prosecute the criminals involved.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to fostering growth and development in the region, warning against attempts to hinder the operations of IOCs that contribute to the community’s economic prosperity.

The letter from UYDB serves as a stern reminder of the ongoing struggles to balance development with local community interests, and the importance of maintaining respect for traditional leadership structures.

Here Is The Full Statement By UYDB:

RE: CHEVRON: ADDRESSING ALL LINGERING ISSUES WITH HOST COMMUNITY IS WIN-WIN FOR ALL PARTIES PUBLISHED ON PAGE 23 OF VANGUARD NEWSPAPER OF THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28TH, 2024.

We, the UGBORODO COMMUNITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT BODY, write to express our utmost displeasure and embarrassment over the recent actions of one Prince Oritsetimeyin Edema, who claims to be “Sole Representative and Liaison to NNPCL and JIV Partners”, of our esteemed monarch, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.

The open letter published in the Vanguard Newspaper of Thursday, November 28, 2024, on page 23, over the act of sabotage on the Dibi/Olero/Abiteye Trunkline, is a clear example of Prince Edema’s thoughtless, ill-conceived, and disrespectful behavior towards the entire Itsekiri nation.

His use of the Olu of Warri insignia is tantamount to the desecration of the Olu’s stool, it is reckless and unacceptable.

This is a prerogative allowable only to His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, as our paramount ruler.

This action is unprecedented in the annals of history of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality. Prince Edema has no locus to exercise such reckless discretion, and his claims of speaking for the oil-producing communities in the 3 (three) Warri Local Government Areas of Delta State, are uncouth and not agreeable to the Itsekiri people.

Each of the Itsekiri communities has its own organs and spokesmen who handle all matters, including employment with International Oil Companies (IOCs). For instance, the issue of employment he emphasised on falls under the purview of the leadership of Ugborodo Community Youth Development Body.

Prince Edema cannot speak for us, and his appointment as Liaison Officer by the Olu does not give him the license to speak for the entire Itsekiri Kingdom.

Prince Edema’s appointment is limited to NNPCL and not JV Partners, as he claimed.
Furthermore, his letter of appointment by our revered monarch does not state that he was appointed as spokesman of the various Itsekiri communities in the 3 Warri LGAs. This is a clear case of impersonation.

The job scope assigned to Mr. Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema was explicitly stated in the letter by our esteemed monarch, titled “Letter Of Authorisation For Mr. Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, As Sole Representative and Liaison” and dated January 31st, 2024, which was despatched to the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engineer Mele Kyari.

In the letter, His Majesty, stated, “We bring you warm greetings from Warri Kingdom.”

“In a letter with reference number, OWP. 1111/9, and dated 2nd October, 2023, my Palace informed you of Mr. Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, as the Palace Liason Officer to your establishment, he also serves as my sole representative until otherwise communicated.”

In the appointment letter, Collins Edema was not assigned the mandate as the Spokesman of the various Itsekiri communities in the three Warri Local Government Areas.

We repeat and emphasize that Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema cannot speak for us. And we are happy that the Palace didn’t confer on him the authority to speak for us. He is merely arrogating that power to himself.

To this end, We seize this medium to urge all IOCs operating in our areas to shun and disregard all correspondences from Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema regarding employment and other issues. He is on a mission for self-aggrandisement. His activities are self-seeking and self-serving.

We therefore condemn Prince Edema’s actions and his attempt to justify the economic saboteurs’ actions in the fate of the ill-fated Dibi/Olero/Abiteye Trunklike.

His write-up is a pointer to the fact that either he knows those responsible for the heinous action or he is sympathetic to their wrong course.

We seize this medium to urge our respected Royal Majesty and esteemed Olu of Warri, to review the terms of engagement of Prince Edema before he further embarrasses the revered stool and sons and daughters of Iwereland.

It is high time to call Prince Edema to order before he damages our Royal Magesty’s enviable credibility and brings Iwereland into disrepute.

The security agencies must fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act of the attack on the Dibi/Olero/Abiteye Trunklike and bring them to book.

We condemn the action and we make bold to demand that the criminals should not escape justice. No one should be allowed to hide under the cloak of demanding employment slots from IOCs to embark on collateral damage of the nation’s economic assets.

The OICs and their servicing companies must be encouraged to operate without let or hindrance in our areas.

This is the way to enhance growth and development in our areas.

We recall the fate of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and their servicing companies during the ill-fated Warri crisis, which led to their fleeing our areas.

We should not allow a repeat of the sad story of the past.

Yours Faithfully,

MR. WILSON EJEH

He noted that the present government of APC was wallowing in utter confusion, lack of vision, and mediocrity.

He encouraged the Obidients that there is the hope of a New Nigeria: the hope of transformation of the country from consumption to production, the hope of total liberation from insecurity, hunger, corruption, and all sorts of vices that have bedevilled the country. You Do Not Have Concrete Evidence Against Otuaro, Group Tells Sowore

….Demands Retraction Of Offensive Publication Against Presidential Amnesty Boss

The Media Advocacy Group (MAG) has exposed Sahara Reporters’ malicious campaign against the Presidential Amnesty Programme, saying it was time to end the madness of Sahara Reporters’ jungle journalism.

In a Press Statement on Monday and signed by Mr Abiodun Sobanjo (Convener), for and on behalf of Media Advocacy Group (MAG), the Lagos based group said that Sahara Reporters’ made false and unfounded allegations regarding the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

MAG stated that it is not often they come together as professionals to condemn one of our own, adding that Sahara Reporters indulgence in rogue journalism has become an embarrassment that should not be ignored.

According to the group, the online publication’s unethical practices taint the time honoured reputation of men and women engaged in professional journalism.

Its publisher, Omoyele Sowore, the group said is often in the news for bad behaviour, saying that Sowore goads himself in borrowed garment of saintism and lays claim to false integrity and that he is more of a troubled soul than a social Activist.

The Group said that another of his egregious journalistic malfeasance came to light recently, through courtesy of his online rag, Sahara Reporters, revealing that; “It made false and unfounded allegations regarding the Presidential Amnesty Programme”.

“This blatant display of rogue journalism is an affront to the very fabric of our profession, and it is our duty to condemn such reprehensible behaviour.Sowore and his publication cannot differentiate nor draw the borderline between professional etiquette and violation of the rights of fellow citizens”, the group said.

MAG stated that Sahara Reporters’ publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has a well-documented history of unethical practices, including his current entanglement in an American court for slanderous publications against a Nigerian, adding that his penchant for sensationalism and disregard for factual accuracy is a stain on the journalistic community.

“The recent publication in question is a glaring example of Sowore’s modus operandi”, the group said.

The Group said that by doctoring the 2020/2021 Auditor-General’s Report to make it appear recent, Sahara Reporters aimed to discredit the Presidential Amnesty Programme and its Coordinator, Dr. Dennis Otuaro.

The Group wrote; “This deliberate attempt to deceive the public is a clear violation of journalistic ethics. It’s sad that Sahara Reporters and its handlers accepted to dust up an old Auditor- General’s report on the financial activities of the Amnesty Programme, apparently on the prompting of some disgruntled elements who have lost their shady sources of revenue upon the appointment of Dr. Dennis Otuaro”.

The Group wondered how could Sahara Reporters have accepted to carry out a hatchet job to use 2020/2021 Auditor General Report to haunt and torment the present leadership of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, which was appointed in 2024?

According to the group Sahara Reporters heavily cannibalised 2020/2021 Auditor General Report to make it appear fresh and presented same to the public as a product of investigative journalism in criminal desperation to impress its paymasters.

The Group unequivocally condemned Sahara Reporters’ actions and demand an immediate retraction of the publication, as well as a formal apology to Dr. Otuaro and the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

According to them, the allegations presented in the story are baseless, and they challenged Sahara Reporters to provide concrete evidence to support its claims.

EXPOSING SAHARA REPORTERS’ MALICIOUS CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE PRESIDENTIAL AMNESTY PROGRAMME

SAHARA REPORTERS AND JUNGLE JOURNALISM: TIME TO END THE MADNESS

It is not often we come together as professionals to condemn one of our own. Sahara Reporters indulgence in rogue journalism has become an embarrassment that should not be ignored. We unequivocally condemn Sahara Reporters’ actions and demand an immediate retraction of the publication, as well as a formal apology to Dr. Otuaro and the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

The allegations presented in the story are baseless, and we challenge Sahara Reporters to provide concrete evidence to support its claims.

Established in 2009 by late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, the Presidential Amnesty Programme has been instrumental in restoring oil production to pre-amnesty levels and reducing insecurity in the Niger Delta region.

Despite its successes, Sahara Reporters still saw it fit and proper to launch a malicious campaign against the Programme, leveraging on fabricated allegations to tarnish the reputation of its coordinator, Dr. Otuaro.

The Nigerian Press Council (NPC) must take decisive action against Sahara Reporters for their deliberate breach of journalistic ethics.

The online publication has to be sanctioned to serve as a future deference.

It must not be allowed the same free run it has basked in since its inception.

This time around, Sahara Reporters must not get away with the misdemeanour.

We also support the ongoing legislative efforts aimed at regulating and streamlining social media practice as it will help to curb the spread of misinformation and protect the integrity of the journalism profession.

Sahara Reporters’ actions constitute a clear case of defamation, and we demand that they take responsibility for their actions.

Defamation is a serious offense, and it can have far-reaching consequences for an individual’s reputation and livelihood.

In conclusion, we reiterate our demand for Sahara Reporters to retract the offending publication, apologize to Dr. Otuaro and the Presidential Amnesty Programme without delay.

We will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary steps to shield and protect the reputation of Dr. Otuaro and the Presidential Amnesty Programme from undeserved antagonism from rogue publications like sahara Reporters.

We will not watch helplessly while some few bad eggs destroy our cherished profession.

Prof. Samuel Asagba’s Vice Chancellorship holds a greater prospects for staff and students of DELSU than any other candidate that contested for four reasons.

Firstly, the brand new minted VC, Prof. Asagba is eminently qualified. He rose through the ranks and file. He served as Head of Department on two separate occasions, Associate Dean, Dean of Faculty on two separate occasions, Provost of the defunct Asaba Campus and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration. It implies that Asagba held lower and upper management positions. He will utilize his wealth of experience to catapult DELSU to unimaginable enviable heights.

Secondly, he has a verifiable record in transparency, accountability, and frugal disposition in resource management. Asagba has a clean slate in both public and private enterprise. He was never indicted for financial misappropriation while he served at various capacities in the university.

If Asagba could serve at both lower and upper management positions on several occasions, it means there must be something spectacular about his personal character and ability to accommodate his colleagues-men and women from diverse ethnic configuration of our state and even beyond.

Another reason to consider is that Asagba is better in terms of personality and human conduct. He does have his flaws which is intrinsically human, but on a comparative note, he is a better human being with ability to listen to the yearnings and aspirations of staff and students. He did same when he served at various lower capacity, much now on a larger scale now.

Lest we forget, investigations reveal that Prof. Asagba’s assessment and score by Google Scholar, a scoring system for rating scholarly publications of lecturers, showed that he has the highest score among contenders for the Vice Chancellorship position. He has 1484 citations, h-index 20 and i10-index, which is the overall score for scholarly publications with at least citations, is 47.

While his peers who were among the top contenders for the VC race scored 27, 5,1 and even zero, Asagba is on a league of his own. So, on a comparative advantage Prof. Asagba is the undisputed best man for the job.

Even though there were whispers from naysayers that Governor Sherrif Oborewovri shouldn’t have appointed him as VC since they are from the same ethnic configuration Okpe axis. The question now is, should the governor ignore the best candidate or pick the worst of the lot as VC just because he is the governor’s kinsman? Exactly! Your guess is as good as mine! In football competition, the coach will always start with his best 11 and need be substitute much later. So for naysayers to suggest that the Governor should pick second 11 over first 11 defies simple logic.

Apparently, DELSU is in safe hands. Prof. Asagba Vice Chancellorship is a step in the right direction. We are overly confident that his emergence will make DELSU a model institution to other state and federal institutions. Let’s all join hands to make DELSU better than it is.

New NUJ President, Alhassan Yahya Represents Experience, Equity – Ochei

A formidable Union strategist and immediate past Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Patrick Ochei has said that the new NUJ President, Comrade Alhaji Alhassan Yahya emerged winner of the national election as a result of the strong belief of delegates in his impeccable experience to pilot the affairs of the Union positively, and of course, the need to give chance to equity.

Ochei gave this analysis while congratulating the newly elected President after his landslide victory at the 8th Triennial Delegates’ Conference of the NUJ on Wednesday 27th November, 2024, in Owerri, Imo State.

The former Secretary who played a key role in mobilizing delegates to vote for Alhassan, had indicated that it was only reasonable to allow such a man with enormous professional experience of being a two-term Secretary of Gombe State Council, two-term Chairman of Gombe State Council, Zonal Vice President of Zone E and two-term Deputy President of NUJ to lead the Union at this time.

He further hinged his explanation on equity, positing that the best way to achieve both professional and political balance in the Union was to allow the North produce the President after the two predecessors – Comrade Waheed Odusile and Comrade Chief Christopher Isiguzo of the Southern region had consecutively held the position for three terms.

According to Ochei, “I feel so elated that a people’s delight, cool, calm and calculated professional administrator has emerged to lead our Union in the next three years and God’s willing in the next six years.

“I am proud because, our voices counted, like it is said in Mass Communication class, ‘Vox Populi Vox Dei’. We did it in a rancour free and camaraderie atmosphere. This is the kind of synergy and professional understanding that is required to continue to keep the Union together, maintain our professional ethos and continue to mainstream media relevance as watchdog of the society.

“Let me use this medium to appreciate our leaders like Comrade Norbert Chiazor, Comrade Kingsley Azuh, Comrade Stella Macaulay, Asiwaju Shola Adebayo and others who worked assiduously from the background to ensure that our national leader, Comrade Alhassan Yahya emerged as President. And of course too, it’s my singular honour to also commend the peaceful and ingenious work of the Credentials Committee led by a Deltan and former Council Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu. Like we say in our local parlance, ‘Deltans no dey carry last’.

“Once again, I sincerely congratulate Comrade Alhassan Yahya for this sweet victory in the history of NUJ. I wish him all the best in the next few years, and I urge him to bring to bear his wealth of experience in midwifing an accountable, firm and fair leadership. Let’s keep supporting him, he deserves our unalloyed support”, Comrade Ochei appealed.

Obi Nduka To Confer Chieftaincy Title On American Based Illustrious Issele-Uku Couple, Mr And Mrs Ufoegbune

By Patrick Ochei

Come December 30, 2024, Issele-Uku will spike up again with cultural funfair that will herald the installation of an American based couple, Mr. Onyeabor Ufoegbune and wife, Prof. (Mrs.) Veronica Ifechide Ufoegbune as chiefs of the Kingdom by His Royal Majesty, Agbogidi Obi Nduka JP (MNSE), Obi of Issele-Uku Kingdom.

For some time now since the Obi performed the traditional rite of chalking the couple, the news of the Chieftaincy installation on these illustrious son and daughter of Issele-Uku has been the talk of the town.

While December is the month to host the reality of this traditional honour that will exhibit another cultural rendezvous in the town, the truth remains that the well revered monarch has always been guided in wisdom on those to be so honoured.

Mr. Onyeabor Ufoegbune, son of the late eventful Iyase of Issele-Uku, Chief Isikwei Umemezie Ufoegbune from Ogbeofu village, and wife, Prof. (Mrs) Veronica Ufoegbune, proud daughter of Issele-Uku from Ogboli village, have been great instruments of cooperation towards Issele-Uku community growth and development.

They have both been representing Issele-Uku in positive light in the Diaspora, and anything that has to do with project development, human capital empowerment and cultural advancement have remained a burning desire in their heart.

Specifically, Prof. Mrs. Veronica Ufoegbune has become a support system for most of the youths through her regular reach outs with ideas, suggestions and funds to home based youths who are eagerly making effort to overcome poverty.

Each time we carried out opinion sampling on our youths, the testimonies are always massive and encouraging, as many of them would become emotional in narrating how Prof. Ufoegbune has continued to help them financially and otherwise.

However, the evidence of the things that Prof. Veronica Ufoegbune has done are in the numerous local and international awards she has received, depicting her exploits in career, corporate accomplishments and humanitarian services. One of such areas she has also extended her services potentially, are in the areas of culture and community development.

Issele-Uku no doubt, has potentially felt her impacts from most, if not all of her forays in international project development efforts; and the monarch and our people are proud of her.

This honour in the form of Chieftaincy Title is very expedient in showing the gratitude of Issele-Uku Kingdom towards what she represents and continues to attract as her personality benefits to Issele-Uku community.
