Dr. Minnie Oseji, made this statement in Warri on Saturday during the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise when she led the Director of Sanitation and Waste Management, Mrs Francisca
Atigan, Environmental Health Officers and other staff of the Ministry to monitor the Special Environmental Sanitation Exercise in Warri South Local Government Area.
She said they were in Warri to monitor and enforced compliance of this month’s monthly environmental sanitation, adding that they are also there to sensitize the people on the need to keep their environment clean at all times.

Mrs. Oseji who went around some of the markets in Warri commended the efforts of the Warri South Local Government Area, but lamented the attitude of market traders who dump their refuses into the drainage thereby frustrating the efforts of the contractors handling the storm drainage system in Warri.

She warned Warri residents that next month’s environmental sanitisation they are going to embark on full enforcement as there are going to be mobile courts that will try offenders.

“The Governor has said that he wants Delta State to be clean and Warri must be part of that vision.

“We have a lot of behavioral problems wherein particularly, around the markets, where they dump waste indiscriminately and some of these waste get themselves back in the drains, and they block the drains and no matter the efforts to clear the drains they are still blocked.

“We are aware that the private participants Sector (PSPs)are not enough to cover the whole council and I understand the council has provided trucks to evacuate bagged waste from some areas and we commend them for that effort.

“Next month we are going to intensify this and there will be mobile courts to arrest offenders. So today is more of sensitization but we are going to continue to do this until Warri and Warri South Local Government Area is clean,” Mrs. Oseji said.

Mr Joseph Oribioye, Secretary to the Warri South Local Government, told journalists that the council Chairman, Dr Michael Tidi PHD
is keen on ensuring that the council remains one of the cleanest in the state.

He said all hands have been on deck to ensure that there is total compliance and sensitization on the importance of keeping the environment clean.

“The Warri South Council Chairman does not like dirt and it’s his intension and wish that Warri South remains the cleanest local government in Delta state. And he is going to do it by the grace of God and with the cooperation of the people.

“We need maximum support from the people and our people need to change their attitude towards environmental sanitation in their area.

“There is going to be a bye law very soon that will mandate all transporters to have waste bins in their cars and busses. If you do not have a trash basket in your vehicle, you are going to be arrested.

“We should learn not to dump waste on the drainage. We should not wait until it is sanitation day before we clean our environment. It should be our culture because cleanliness as they say, is next to godliness,” Oribioye said.

By  Eche Amos

Followirng their exhilarating performance at the recently concluded Ladies Golf Open Qualifiers/Tournament at Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim Golf Club in Jaji, Kaduna State, held between July 13th-16th, 2023, the Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, has hosted the State’s golfers who participated at the event.

At a brief but breathtaking ceremony held in his office in Lafia, the Permanent Secretary congratulated the lady golfers for making the State proud and winning laurels.

“May I thank you for coming to felicitate with me on my appointment as Permanent Secretary.

“Importantly, I wish to congratulate you, particularly, the ladies who have been making us proud.

“As everyone knows, success has many parents, but failure is an orphan. Basically, we are your parents because you are winning.

“I am aware of the Jaji tournament even though I didn’t know that so many of you went for that event, and still didn’t know that you went on self-sponsorship because I am just new here.

“From what I have seen, to be honest, I think you all deserve the support to ensure you do better, going forward.

“Golf is an elitist sport and this administration places high premium on the game of Golf which was why when I first assumed office, my first visit was to the Lafia Golf Course, which is one of the largest in Northern Nigeria, to take inventory of the facility and report back to the Government who will now think of how to transform it to a lucrative environment, either alone or with the support of development partners.”

While pledging Government’s continuous support to the development of Golf and other sports, the Permanent Secretary opined that he and the Ministry would leave nothing to chance to ensure all the non-contracted golfers who are making the State proud at various championships are absorbed into the payroll of the State to serve as morale booster.

He promised to participate in subsequent activities of the Lafia Golf Club whenever opportunity presents itself.

Speaking earlier, the Lady Captain, Lafia Golf Club, Mrs. Marilynda Ogbole, appreciated the Permanent Secretary for the audience granted to them, detailing that the Ladies’ Session of the Lafia Golf Club is overwhelmed with series of challenges, hence, making it difficult for them to participate in vital tournaments in the country, especially owing to lack of funds and inadequate facilities, even though the golfers have always displayed exceptional performance at events they have participated in.

She solicited the assistance of the Permanent Secretary and Government to engage the golfers and as well enable them to participate in subsequent tournaments, especially the fast-approaching Sapele Athletic Golf Club tournament slated for September.

Secretary, Nasarawa State Golf Association, Miss Felicia Obile Allu, had told Danladi that they were in his office to felicitate with him on his appointment as Permanent Secretary and present the lady golfers who took part in the Jaji Qualifiers/Tournament and won medals to him.

A 2-year-old boy identified as Ivan Onoseriegba, was struck by a stray bullet from operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Delta State Command while chasing suspected drug peddlers along Okpanam Road, Oshimili north local government area of the State.

It was gathered that the NDLEA personnel shot sporadically into the air on Thursday July 13th 2023, when the stray bullet hit Ivan who was with his younger brother in his mother’s shop on Edoz Plaza, close the Sweet Spirit hotel.

The younger brother, Erhumossele, was equally wounded in one of his eyes from the shattered glasses the stray bullet pierced through into the glass shop, Hillsi Cakes N More Academy, belonging to the mother.

The ugly incident occured between 2:00pm and 3:00pm when the children were picked from school by their father, Mr. Omorhiakogbe Fidelis, and kept in their mother’s shop.

The bullet pierced through his abdomen to the back, causing a big hole on the child’s body.

Both siblings were rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Asaba, for surgery where Ivan, died around midnight after doctors and nurses battled to save his life.

Narrating his ordeal in the hands of the operatives, Mr. Fidelis, said: “What really happened was that I went to my kids school to pick them, I then decided to drop them at the shop, the Plaza close to Sweet Spirit.

“That is where my wife’s shop is located so that I can go and meet up with other of my activities so that I can come and pick home, so we can close for the day.

“So, going back to the house to pick up something, my house is just five minutes drive from the shop. Getting toy compound, my wife called me, sweet heart please come.

“They don’t understand whether if it is bullet or anything, there is no gunshot within that environment. I then rushed back to the place, getting to the place, my wife called me that they are going to FMC, meet us there.

“It is like it is a gunshot because my wife said she saw my boy’s intestines coming out even the glass that the bullet penetrated, affected my son’s eye. She held two of them and started shouting for help, that was when she then called me to meet them at FMC.

“As I was going to FMC, I said no, let me stop at the shop and know was was happening. When I got to the shop, I saw one Hilux Van, fully loaded with operatives of NDLEA with arms.

“I saw another Sienna, they went to turn so that they can go back to inside town not Okpanam town, I saw another Honda. The vehicles were all occupied by NDLEA Operatives. So, they then parked close to my wife’s shop.

“According to the people around, they said they were chasing those guys that sells drugs but the guys ran away but I don’t know how manage the bullet got to my wife’s shop.

“So, I was trying to ask some of my neighbours. My wife just told me that there’s a gunshot that hit my boy and his intestines are coming out.

“Then one if the boys then said it was the gun that was shot that touched your son. That one have me the courage because they had already parked and trying to arrest some other boys while others ran away, the place was rowdy.

“That one gave me the courage to meet them and I was trying to take pictures and trying taking some videos. One of the boys came out and asked why I was videoing him, asking me if I am mad.

“He then cracked his gun, I then told him that the gun you people shot has killed my son, and if you want to kill me, just kill me as I won’t leave to anywhere. Then the guy then punched me, I then held his hand. Immediately they heard that their gunshot has killed my child, they immediately entered their cars and zoomed off.

“I jumped inside my car and followed them till we got to Issele-Azagba, they then stopped while I pulled over in one filling station and they came to me. I told them that the gun they shot Kled my son, they said they know and they have called their Commander.

“They said I should follow them to their head office in Ogwashi-Uku, getting to that place, their Oga, brought them out, talked to them before coming in.

“They started pleading with me and enquired about the condition of the child and I told him that I haven’t seen him as I decided to stay around the shop to know what happened. That was when I discovered that it could be these guys who were armed.

“The Oga then said that was true. According to their Oga, he said what they told him is that they were chasing someone or that they wanted to cross then one bike or a vehicle hit the NDLEA guy, that was when the gun triggered.

“He said I should not worried and that I should go and see them first as that is the most important thing to everybody right now and that he will send one or two persons with me. Immediately, I left for Asaba to come and see them and they told me that they are in the theater and they they were looking for blood.

“After one and a half hour, the people that the Commander sent, then came that their Oga sent them to come and see the situation and I told them that they are trying to look for blood for him to survive.

“The blood they said we should donate is a fresh one and not the one they have in their blood bank. So, we were trying to look for among some of my friends that came around because I could not donate because I am B positive.

“So, we then got one of my wife’s worker that is O positive. That one then donated the blood. We were running around and they were doing X-ray and all of that. About 7:00pm to 1:00am, he then gave up and they called as the father that the child could not make it that the intestines were and kidney were affected.

“The glass the gun penetrated splashed on his eye and body but they said he has a cut. They took him to the theater yesterday at about 2:00am and they came out 6:00am this morning trying to ensure that the cut and wounds are treated”.

While disclosing that he has incidented the case at the police station, the wailing father said: “We need justice for our children. We need to take it up, it cannot just go like this. I don’t even know the condition of this one. I don’t know his fate, we need justice.

“The one that died is supposed to graduate next tomorrow. They have given the graduation gown to him”, he lamented.

When journalists contacted the acting Public Relations Officer (PRO), of NDLEA, John Kennedy, he said he would reach back but at press time, he didn’t pick calls put across to his cellphone.

At the mother’s shop, multiple sources at the Plaza, said they were in their various shops when they saw NDLEA officers chasing suspected drug peddlers and shot sporadically into the air.

According to them, the bullet pierced through the glass, shattered it before hitting the innocent boy.

Another source at FMC, who pleaded anonymity, said they battled to save the life of the young boy but he couldn’t make it as he was wounded severely by the stray bullet.

Ugboba Monarch Nominated For Silent Heroes Award In Traditional Leadership

By Patrick Ochei

The Traditional Ruler of Ugboba Kingdom in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Obi Ezedimbu Emmanuel Nkebakwu III, has been nominated for the prestigious Silent Heroes Award in Traditional Leadership.

The nomination was made available to Anioma Trust through the official release of Silent Heroes, indicating that among the list of performing young Kings in the country, Obi Nkebakwu came highly recommended as a result of his glaring community efforts, targeted at evidence based development in Ugboba Kingdom.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Silent Heroes Award, Mr. Odita Sunday, “We are very careful and meticulous about who we give our awards to, including Traditional Rulers. However, from various quarters we contacted to nominate a performing and responsible Traditional Ruler for this award, majority pointed in the direction of Obi Ugboba.

“We further made our investigation before zeroing in on the same Monarch. We feel proud that we can still get his type in this time and era when it is even much more difficult to get satisfactory nomination from Traditional institutions.

“For proper analysis, this particular king has strong passion for humanity and, he is a king loved by his people. Those were our look out and we got more of them in this man that has done more than miracles to place his community on a progressive trajectory since taking over the reign of the throne of his forebears in 2016. We have seen what he is doing in his community, and his people speak highly of him; that is all that matters for a nomination to be accepted”, Odita posited.

As the award presentation date, billed for Abuja is being awaited, Anioma Trust did carry out an opinion poll to ascertain people’s assessment of the king with regards to deserving the honour of an award of this magnitude.

The poll appeared clearly positive, as all the opinions affirmed that the soft spoken London trained Monarch eminently deserves the award.

We equally reached out to him (Obi Ezedimbu Emmanuel Nkebakwu), and he confirmed receiving a letter for the award.

He was appreciative of such platform that seeks to honour him, maintaining that he was truly glad and would continue to uphold the sanctity of the institution of royalty by keeping to the sacred heritage of his forebears.

Oseji’s Demise, A Sojourn To Heavenly Kingdom Says Dr. Minnie Oseji

…As Justice Tobe Charges Judicial Officers To Promote Justice

The Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Environment and the Coordinator of  Oseji Foundation for Transparency and Community  Development, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Oseji has described the demise of the founder of the foundation and her husband Hon. Justice Samuel Oseji (JSC) as a sojourn to the heavenly kingdom.

Oseji made this known in her welcome address on the occasion of the public lecture in honour of Hon. Justice Samuel Oseji (JSC) on Friday, June 2, 2022 in Asaba, Delta State.

She said as a family they have come to terms that late Oseji has move to a heavenly mansion in the heavenly kingdom.

According to her it was the second annual lecture in honour of her husband which would have been his 69th birthday, if he had not departed.

While advising families to fear and keep God’s commandments, she described her life with Honourable Justice Oseji as a fairy tale.

According to her, “God honoured our faith in Him by giving us the grace to surmount a myriad of challenges that have destroyed many other homes”.

She said the first Annual Public Lecture would have been held on 2nd June 2022 but we moved it to 28th September 2022 to coincide with the first memorial event, as advised by the committee of friends of their Patriarch. The family however, prefers to celebrate his birth rather than his departure hence they have chosen his birthday for the subsequent Annual Public Lectures.

IWhile speaking on the guest speaker, Hon. Justice Ebiowei Tobi, she said, he is not only a seasoned Jurist, but a family friend, Christian brother who provided succour to the Oseji family during our challenging times and an illustrious son of the legendary Honourable Justice Niki Tobi (JSC).

According to her, the title of the lecture: “Judicial Role and Responsibility – A Divine Mandate” is apt for the times we are living in presently. We have no doubt he will do justice to the topic.

Expressing gratitude to God for what he has used The Oseji Foundation for Transparency and Community Development to accomplish in the last 10 years, the Coordinator said their latest activity was to provide support for an Essay Competition on Raising Nigerian Youths With A Vision organised by Public Health Impact Research Centre in collaboration with Delta State Law Students Association of Nigeria.

She added that the Foundation in the year, intends to distribute to all Universities with Law Faculties the book titled  “A dove on the Bench” which was a compilation of selected judgements of Justice Oseji, compiled in his honour by the Learned Silk Chike Onyemenam (SAN) and his indefatigable team.

Highlighting other events to mark the 69th Birthday of the Patriarch, Hon. Justice Samuel Oseji, she said would include presentation of prizes to best performing pupils and students in Idumuje-Unor, donation of Biology Laboratory equipment to Idumuje-Unor Mixed Secondary School; free Health Insurance for 20 indigenes of Idumuje-Unor and a night vigil on June 2nd and 3rd, 2023.

While speaking on the topic, “judicial role and responsibility – a divine mandate”,  Hon. Justice Ebiowei Tobi (JCA) said judgement was incomplete without justice, adding that, that was what the late Justice stood for and was known for.

Justice Tobe described him as a man of God, who understood that adjudication was more than a career; that after his time on earth, he will stand before God, the judge of all judges, a man of transparency who understood divine mandate, hence the need for the topic.

He charged judicial officers to be conscious of the fact  that their role and responsibility were not from man but from God.

He advised them to always promote justice when interpreting the law, as no law was written for the sake of injustice.

On his part, the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Justice Jonah Adah (PJCA), represented by Justice Abimbola O. Obaseki- Adejumo (JCA), described Late Oseji as a righteous, upright, disciplined judge and Mr. Fix-it who was good at his career.

While commending the founder’s  initiative of putting up a foundation as such, said  the legacies would live after Oseji was gone.

The Chairman commended Dr. Mrs Oseji for finding it in her heart, to actually fulfill the covenant, keeping covenant with her loved one, and prayed God to always uphold her.

Goodwill messages were presented by the Obi of Idumuje – unor, His Royal Majesty Obi Charles Chukwunwike Anyasi III, JP; Chief Justice of the state, Hon. Justice Tessy Diai, represented by Honourable Justice Godwin Briki-Okolosi, Chief Abel Oseji among others.

A highpoint of the event was the exhortation by Pastor Anyasi Enuemenem.
