Charge or Release Emefiele Court Orders DSS

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to either charge or release the suspended Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele from detention within one week

The Presiding Judge, Justice Hamza Muazu gave the order after a hearing in the fundamental human rights suit Emefiele filed to challenge his arrest and detention by the Department of State Services.

While ruling that the applicant be released on bail, the Judge directed DSS to charge the applicant to court or release him in not more than a week.

The suspended CBN governor had through his counsel challenged his detention and denial of access to his family and counsel.

Muazu in his ruling observed that detention no matter how short was a breach of fundamental rights as the applicant was entitled to a fair hearing.

House of Rep. Approves Tinubu’s N500bn Request For Palliatives

The House of Representatives, has approved the request of N500 billion for palliatives to Nigerians to cushion the pains of subsidy removal.

The House at the Committee of Supply approved  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request for an amendment to the 2022 appropriation Act to allow the Federal Government to take the fund,  after contributions by members of the House called for proper utilisation of the funds for the purpose it was meant for.

Members took turns to commend the President for taking a bold step to remove fuel subsidy and showing to Nigerians that he was a listening President.

Presenting the request to members of debate, the House Leader, Julius Ihonvbare, commended the President for his concern towards the citizens.

The Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, however, said president has proven to be responsible and responsive.

In a letter read at plenary on Wednesday, by the Speaker of the House,  Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, it stated that the money would be sourced from the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act of N819. 5 billion.

Heroes International Honours Nwaobi, Uto, Oguma, Ogidi-Gbegbaje, Ozoma, Nwachukwu With Life Of Impact Award

The Heroes Aglow Gospel Ministry a.k.a Heroes Family International Church, Okpanam, has honoured the Majority Leader of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi with its maiden Life of Impact Award during the 2023 Men’s Fellowship Day in the church.

The Award was also presented to the Senior Pastor of Heroes Family Church, Pastor (Engr.) Elvis Peters Uto, the Chairman of Obakpor Engineering Limited, Chief John Oguma, the Permanent Secretary of Delta State Government House and Protocol, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, the CEO of Fidelity Fortune and Management Company Limited, Prince Ibe Ozoma and of course, the Branch Pastor of the Church of God Mission (Church Aglow Asaba), Rev. Eric Nwachukwu .

The above awardees were superlatively celebrated for their sincere services to God and humanity, to the effect that many lives had been positively impacted by virtue of their good works.

According to the Men’s Leader, Deacon Patrick Ochei while delivering his address of welcome and introducing the awardees; he affirmed that the awardees were thoroughly screened before being approved for the award, adding that they well deserved the honour done them.

His words, “When we decided to celebrate our Men’s Week for this year, we saw this 2023 edition as an opportunity to celebrate our Fathers’ Day. We initiated the award segment as part of our programme, in order to honour certain individuals within and without, who have contributed immensely to the advancement of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and humanity.

“It was on this note that several personalities were nominated, and we eventually pruned down to these distinguished awardees that are here to be honoured today.

“I congratulate you on behalf of the Heroes Men’s Fellowship, while urging you to continue to support the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and advancement of humanitarian services in your various spheres of influence”, Ochei posited.

Meanwhile, the Guest Speaker and General Overseer of the House of Gladtidings Missions International, Okpanam, Bishop Prince Edugbo did justice to the theme of the Men’s Programme, “Impact”.

The preacher said there is nothing as honourable as living an impactful and evidence based life, thereby praying God to give the men the grace and fortitude to live an impactful life going forward.

It was indeed an awesome time in the presence of God, as the programme which was anchored by an On Air Personality, Comrade Onome Tanno was spiced up with lots of creative activities by the men of Heroes Family, including a worship and praise ministrations by Minister Joshua and Kayode Judah the Saxophonist.

Governorship Election Petition Tribunal: Court Admits Gbagi’s Evidence Against Oborevwori

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, has admitted an evidence documents tendered by the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi.

The tribunal admitted the evidences earlier tendered by the lead counsel to Gbagi, Mr. Magaji Mato Ibrahim, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

The counsel to the SDP gubernatorial candidate told the 3-man panel of Judges led by Justice C.H Ahuchaogu, that the election which produced the governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as governor of the state, was characterized with irregularities, electoral malpractices, non-compliance to the 2022 Electoral Act, amongst others.

Though, counsels to the first to the 13th respondents made failed attempts to object to the evidences and said that they would canvass the reasons for their objections in their final written addresses.

Justice Ahuchaogu, told the counsels that in as much they have allowed the documents to be tendered from the bar, their actions implies that they have given their consent for the documents to be tendered, adding that they have the opportunity to object in their final written addresses.

After much argument from the counsels, which bowed to the superior argument of Magaji, Justice Ahuchaogu, ruled that the petitioners would have to prove the substance of such documents.

Justice Ahuchaogu granted Magaji’s application to tender the documents and The case was then adjourned the case for hearing on July 19 and 20, 2023.

NDLEA Arrests Two Officials of Popular Church In Delta

… Seizes 4,560kg Skunk in Lagos, Adamawa, Osun, Ogun

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), has arrested four drug syndicate members, two church officials, female courier company staff, and another lady involved in trafficking the lethal opioid fentanyl in Delta.

This was disclosed in a press statement issued today in Abuja by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

According to the statement, two officials of the said Church located in Warri, Mr Adewale Ayeni, 39, and Ebipakebina Appeal, 41, were linked to two intercepted consignments of the illicit drug.

The statement alleged that Ayeni is one of those managing the prayer call centre of the Church, while Ebipakebina is in charge of the movement of international guests from the airport to the Church.

Babafemi stated that the bust of the fentanyl cartel operating from Warri, Delta State, came after intelligence-led investigation of the syndicates behind the dangerous drug.

He added that about a month ago the agency had arrested two members of another syndicate, Odoh Collins Oguejiofor and Oliver Chigozie Uzoma, at Ogbogwu market in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Two female accomplices were also arrested in the course of investigating the intercepted shipments include Naomi David, 28, a staff of United Parcel Services (UPS), and Stacy Njideka, also known as Nkiruka, 27, who is a business associate of Ayeni.

In a related development, operatives of the anti- narcotic agency on Wednesday intercepted a Toyota Hilux vehicle marked EPE 863 XD along Ngurore-Mayo Belwa road, Adamawa State.

It also stated that not less than 4,560 kilograms of skunk have been seized in a prohibition operations in Lagos, Adamawa and Osun by operatives who raided a ‘skucchies’ factory in Ogun.

Babafemi stated that the arrest followed a search of the van with two occupants: Kelvin Efe, 51 and Christian Ogaga, 42, conveying 118 noodles cartons used to conceal 544 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa, weighing 408kg hidden in a false compartment and meant for distribution in Yola, Mubi and Gombe.

It also stated that NDLEA operatives on Saturday in Lagos and Osun States, arrested one Segun Odeyemi, conveying 89 jumbo bags of skunk with a total weight of 3,842kg in his truck around the Eleganza area of Ajah, Lekki area of Lagos and an abandoned J5 Peugeot bus marked AAA 521 SQ with bags of fresh pepper used to conceal 25 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 300.5kg was recovered along Akure-Ilesa expressway in Osun after its occupants sighted NDLEA officers on patrol on Friday.

The statement also reported that the agency’s operatives in Ogun State on Thursday raided a ‘skucchies’ factory at Ajaka, Sagamu, where a suspect, Adekunle Adekola, was arrested. Exhibits recovered from the premises include 10kg cannabis; 1,356 litres of ‘skucchies’; 20 litres of codeine; seven deep freezers; a Fireman generator; and two gas cylinders, among others.

Sanwo-Olu Not Running One Man Show In Lagos- Akosile

Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State governor, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, has debunked the allegation made by Lagos lawyer, Ebun –Olu Adeguruwa (SAN) that the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was running a one man show in the state.

Reacting to the allegation, Akosile said the governor was not running a one man show nor spending public funds while the state executive council had not been duly constituted as claimed by Adeguruwa.

‘’For the avoidance of doubt, the Nigerian Constitution is very clear about the number of days required for a state governor to send his nominees for various cabinet offices to the  House of Assembly for legislative approval. According to the fifth alteration (No. 23), the bill seeks to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to require the president and governors to submit the names of persons nominated as ministers or commissioners within 60 days of taking the oath of office for confirmation by the senate or House of Assembly; and for related matters’’, he said

Akosile said his principal had not gone against the law as he was just 39 days in the office, adding that the wheel of governance is moving progressively in the state.

Tinubu Pledges To Remove Investment Bottlenecks, Reposition Economy

President Bola Tinubu has assured manufacturing and service sectors of more reforms that would attract investments in favour of youths in the country.

Tinubu gave the assurance while addressing a delegation from MTN led by Group Chairman, Mcebisi Jonas, at the State House, Abuja.

He said for the dreams of the youth to be a reality, the economy of the country have to be revolutionized.

Acknowledging the sweeping changes across the world, largely driven by technology, he promised to remove bottlenecks to investments in the economy.

While calling for partnership with the telecommunication company, he said with the structural adjustment of his administration, it would help build a well-informed society

President Tinubu said the growing rural-urban migration can only be controlled with more investments in digital technology that will directly improve healthcare systems and education for the poor.

“I am happy you are moving from Corporate Social Responsibility to be more incisive and inquisitive with technology so that we can see how we can partner structurally,’’ the President stated.

Earlier in his address, MTN Group Chairman said in ensuring they become a pan-African company, they intend to investing $3.5 billion in the economy over the next five years by moving investments from the Middle East and focusing more on Africa, especially Nigeria, where it gets the highest return on investment.

He promised to support in the mobilisation of other investors with about $1.5 trillion to look towards Nigeria, where reforms had been styled to favour business and encourage inclusive development.

The delegation had the Group President/CEO of MTN, Ralph Mupita, Chairman of MTN Nigeria, Ernest Ndukwe and Chief Executive Officer, Olutokun Karl Toriola in attendance.

Obi Adigwe Blacky Nweke To Be Honoured Today As Diokpa Of Umuekea

Obi Adigwe Blacky Nweke would today be bestowed the title of Diopka Umuekea of Ibusa.

According to a press statement issued to our reporter the traditional event would take place at his hometown in Umuekea in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

It also stated that upon his inaugural ceremony Obi Nweke would take custody of the ofo of Umuekea as Diokpa.

Tilije Challenge Deltans To State Finance Debate

Delta State Immediate past Commissioner of Finance, Sir Fidelis Okenmor Tilije has challenged the public to a debate on the state’s financial report.

Tilije disclosed this while speaking with Journalists shortly after a send forth party organized for him by the Ministry in Asaba, the state capital.

He said he was ready to reveal the accurate breakdown of the state’s finance to whoever cares to be updated on the breakdown on the information.

“That is why we are very bold to tell the world, if you think that the finances of Delta State is such that you are not satisfied with it, call for the document and they would be made available to you”.

He said, “as a government, the Okowa’s administration had been transparent  when it has to do with finance”. “ I must confess that governor Okowa was on top of the game, he was willing to accept changes, listen to advice and was ready to drive those changes when he assigned us to them”, he said.

Okenmor also revealed that the world bank had given the state and the immediate past governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa thumbs up as one of the most transparent and accountable states in Nigeria.

According to him, “the world Bank itself came out with verdict that Delta State is one of the most accountable and transparent states in the federal republic of Nigeria”.

Shun Political Hatred, NCPC Boss Charges Youth

The Executive Secretary Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev. Dr. Yakubu Pam has charged youths to shun political hatred, and put aside all difference.

Rev. Pam gave the charge while receiving delegations from the Plateau State Coalition of APC Support Groups in his office at the NCPC headquarters in Abuja on 5 July 5, 2023.

He urged them to avoid every form of crisis as most of them were politically motivated, according to him “crisis of today starts from the social media, as such youths should come together and live as humans putting aside all differences”.

He added that the youths had a big role to play in ensuring that crisis were controlled since they were the tools used during such crisis, adding that they were  humans first before religion and tribe.

He therefore admonished the Christian and Muslim youths in Plateau State to come together and advocate for peace in the state.

In his words, “Plateau State used to be very peaceful where many Nigerians loved to own a home because of the blessings of a natural weather and soil”.

He further charged the youths to cease the opportunity have a safe environment that will attract investors to the state so as to bring back the glory of Plateau State.

Earlier, the Chairman and leader of the delegation of the Plateau State Coalition of APC Support Groups, Alhaji. Saminu Maigoro said their purpose of visit to the Commission was to identify with the Executive Secretary, Rev.Dr. Yakubu Pam for his outstanding performance in his duty.

Maigoro said unlike some persons in power who finds it difficult to carry out efficient service delivery without controversy, the Executive Secretary has been exceptional as he has been able to pilot the affairs of the Commission successfully.

He said that the people of Plateau State were proud of him for portraying the state in good light through his diligent work.

The Chairman commended the Executive Secretary for his support to the youths in the state and further solicited for more support for the youths through skills acquisition, academics and other means possible.

Highlights of the event was the presentation of the Certificate of Credence to the Executive Secretary in appreciation for his service delivery and service to humanity.
