Yuletide: Delta NSCDC Deploys 2979 Personnel To Saturate The State

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Delta State Command says it has deployed a total of 2,979 of it’s personnel to provide a water tight security for the Yuletide season.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command public relations officer DSC Emeka Peters Okwechime in Asaba the State Capital. He disclosed that the state Commandant of the NSCDC Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun has meticulously approved the deployment of about 2979 Personnel of its work force to  areas considered to be flash points and red sports areas across the State to ensure a water tight security before, during and after the Yuletide.

Commandant Akinsanya said that the personnel after undergoing series of rigorous trainings, regiments, lectures, briefings and exercise. The personnel were drafted from the Counter Terrorism Unit CTU, The Snipper Combatants, Female Squad, the Crack Team, Special Forces, SWAT, the Tactical and Dislodgers Squad, Rapid Response Squad, the Rejigged Anti Vandal Squad RAS, the Department of Intelligent and Investigation, the Armament and Buffalos, Crisis Management and Disaster Department amongst others.

While advocating for a hitch Yuletide, the number one citizen of the NSCDC in the State warned against the use of fireworks before, during and after the yuletide stressing that it could induce fear, panic or apprehension in state which might also misrepresent or misinformed security agencies as some miscreant or hoodlum can hide or operate under the guise of fireworks to carry out their nefarious atrocities.

He reminded the public that ban on the use of fireworks in the State has not been lifted but still enforce so it will enable security forces to detect and determine when hoodlums are operating.

In a related development the NSCDC Boss said that the leadership of the Corp is committed to the  protection of life and property and the maintainance of peace and order in the State.

The NSCDC Commandant charged the public to renew their confidence in security agencies and they should feel free to say something when they see something. He called on mischief makers to relocate elsewhere that they cannot survive the present  security temperature of the State due to the heated security temperature of the State resulting from the robust synergy, cooperations and collaborations of various security agencies in the State. He charged the public to go about their legitimate business without fear of molestation, intimidation or apprehension Commandant Akinsanya assured.

He used the opportunity to wished every one a happy Christmas and a prosperous new year in advance.

BEDC Partners NSCDC To Protect Her Power Installations From Vandals In Delta State

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company BEDC has  partnered  with the Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Delta State Command to protect the company’s power installations across the State.

The Asaba Business/Branch Manager, Mr Henry Onovwaka who solicited for the prompt intervention of the NSCDC to protect it’s facilities from vandals.

 The BEDC Manager made the request when he received  the State Commandant of the NSCDC Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun in his office in Asaba the State Capital.

Henry emphasized on the need which necessitated the partnership between the BEDC and the NSCDC which he said that it is not limited to but include incessant vandalization of BEDC transformers, BEDC Cables, BEDC Feeder pillars, illegal Connections, Meter Bye-Pass, molestation and harassment of BEDC staff amongst others.

While narrating the nefarious activities of the Vandals, Mr Henry stated that the BEDC Transformers and other power installations in the State are being vandalized often, if not on daily basis. Hence the need to partner with the NSCDC that is statutorily empowered by act 2003 and 2007 as amended by  national Assembly as the lead agency for the protection of all government critical national assets and infrastructure which the BEDC is inclusive and falls under Mr Henry noted.

While responding to the BEDC Branch Manager, the State Commandant of the NSCDC Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun represented by the Commands Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC DSC Emeka Peters Okwechime thanked the BEDC for reposing confidence on the NSCDC.

Assuring the BEDC, Commandant Akinsanya said that the NSCDC is committed to protecting all government property within it’s jurisdictions. That the safety of life and the protection of property by the agency is sacrosanct and it is not negotiable.

The State Commandant while urging the BEDC to fulfil it’s Company’s Cooperate Social Responsibilities towards the NSCDC and others, assured the branch manager of adequate protection of all BEDC facilities and installation across the State.

In a related development, the NSCDC Boss used the opportunity to warn those in the act of vandalizing public and power installations, engaging in illegal Connections, Bye-Pass of electricity meters or sabotaging government efforts to have a rethink or will be made to face the full weight of the law if caught.

The NSCDC Big Short reminded the public that Cap (M12) paragraph 9 and 10 of the Miscellaneous Offenses Act, stipulate life imprisonment or a minimum of twenty one (21)  years jail term for offenders when caught without an option of fine.

Speaking on the right of the citizens, the NSCDC Boss called on the management of the BEDC to always observe and respect the rights of the citizen in carrying out their legitimate business. He emphasized that as a law enforcement agent protecting life and property, he will also ensure that the rights of the citizens are also protected to the latter. He further disclosed that the law made provision for a ten (10) days disconnection notice to be duly served to the consumer  before possible disconnections. That it is illegal to disconnect electricity without ten (10) days notice the State Commandant pointed out.

Yuletide Festivity: Asiuwhu Calls For Regular Clean Up, Proper Disposal Of Refuse

In a bid to keep the Environment Clean during  the yuletide season, Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu  has called on Deltans and residents of the state to keep their environment, business premises clean and beautiful.

The Commissioner made the call while speaking to newmen in  his office in  Asaba.

He said it was  necessary to ensure a healthy environment as the state would welcome more visitors and as such more waste is expected to be generated during this festive period.

He advised residents to take ownership of their environment, by cutting overgrown weeds, avoid indiscriminate refuse dump,  burning of waste, desilt their drainage, keep 20 meters away from their premises clean  to prevent unwanted diseases.

He admonished everyone to intensify more effort to manage their waste properly and dispose  resultant waste through the Private Sector Participants (PSPs)  to government approved dump site.

While wishing Deltans a merry Christmas and prosperous new year, Chief Asiuwhu said “when the environment is clean and healthy it will attract more tourism  and a  conducive environment in the state for business to strive”.

NCPC Boss Lauds Gov Uzodinma For The Soul Inspiring Yearly Christmas Carol In Imo State

The Executive Secretary  Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC Rev. Dr Yakubu Pam has lauded Sen. Hope Uzodinma for the yearly Christmas Carol  usually organized by the Imo State Government.

He  made this known  during the 2022 Christmas Carol which held at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Square on December 21, 2022 in Owerri, the state capital with the theme of the Christmas carol is  “Celebrate Christ the Messiah”.

The NCPC Boss expressed delight that such a big religious gathering. He praised Gov. Uzodinma for setting a standard and keeping to it. He called on other Governors to emulate what Sen. Hope Uzodinma is doing in Imo State as he said , “I want to call on other Governors and the entire country by extension to learn from you, this is very commendable”.

 He added,  “If there’s anything we need today is to have Governors like you who will bring people together not on a social club nor a political arena but only in a place dedicated to worship God”.

The NCPC helmsman called on the people of Imo State to take the Christmas message very serious and see it as a time to reconcile all differences as Jesus died so that man can be reconciled with God, adding  that “what ever has been the line of division in the State it is time to advocate for unity and oneness after all power comes from God and He gives it to who ever he deems fit.

Also speaking on the forthcoming 2023 elections, the NCPC Scribe said, “I pray that the 2023 elections will not become a means of division but rather be used as a cause  for unity”. He charged the youths  not to  be  instruments of  destruction of Peace and Progress.

The NCPC Chief Executive thanked the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN for the job well done in planning and organising the Carol in collaboration with the Imo State Government. He described the Imo State CAN Chairman as a leader of influence for being able to gather people of timber and calibre at the grand Carol.

The NCPC Helmsman used the opportunity to announce  that the 2022 general pilgrimage exercise is ongoing with about 300 Enugu State Pilgrims in Israel and the Kingdom of Jordan presently on pilgrimage, he further disclosed that the pilgrimage exercise will run through March/ April 2023 hopefully. He called on Sen. Uzodinma and all well meaning interested individuals to do well and key into the present ongoing Pilgrimage exercise.

The Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma in his speech thanked God Almighty for being able to host and hold such a Carol despite all challenges that were faced in the State last year. “It is very clear to me that God has answered our prayers, so we are going into the Christmas jubilant and happy. He added that “the Egyptians you saw yesterday you shall see them no more”.

Sen. Uzodinma extended his love to his people while explaining that he understands the economic hardship going on as he expressed optimism that things would definitely get better.

He urged his people saying, “as long as you have faith in God and rely on him, He is  strong to do all things and  God will strengthen me to discharge my best to my people and serve my father land.                  

NCPC Boss Rev Pam Bags Icon Of Most Outstanding Inter-Religious Harmony Award

The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam has bagged ICON OF MOST OUTSTANDING INTER-RELIGIOUS HARMONY AWARD.

The award which was presented to him in Abuja on 20th December, 2022 by the Aluta Media Limited, Publishers of Aluta news.

The Publisher of Aluta news , Comrade Gambo Suleiman in his remarks, commended the NCPC boss for his selfless service in the area of Peace , youth and inter-faith harmony over the years.

He explained that the Board of Aluta news considered him worthy and deserving of the award for his contributions to the dignity of humanity regardless of faith.

The Publisher hinted that the award was slated for the Third anniversary of Aluta news which took place on 2nd December, 2022 in Abuja , but the Board decided to come as a team to formally present the award to the Executive Secretary as a mark of honour to his personality and office.

In his words,” you breached the gap between the two religion because of the way you carry pilgrimage”.

In his remarks, the NCPC boss said the Publisher of Aluta news is well connected with the grass root which explains why he was able to come with other credible youth based organizations.

He affirmed that the Bloggers and social media are doing great ; they are the ones speaking the facts that are hidden, they speak the minds of the people.

The Executive Secretary further said that Bloggers who are genuinely working for the progress of humanity and the country should be supported.

He decried those who use their platforms to discredit the good policies of the government.

The NCPC boss also canvassed for support for the youth,” stating that Nigerians should support them so as to give them a chance to prove their mettle”, he said.

Rev Pam called on Nigerians to do everything  possible to make sure that the Labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.

He assured the Publisher of Aluta news that the Commission would work together with his organization to  promote the country.

Okowa Congratulates Ned Nwoko at 62

Vice Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has congratulated former member of House of Representatives, Prince Ned Nwoko, on his 62nd birth anniversary.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, the governor said Nwoko, PDP’s candidate for Senatorial seat for Delta North Senatorial District in upcoming 2023 elections, had contributed immensely to political evolution in Delta and the development of his Idumuje-Ugboko community in Aniocha North Local Government Area.

He lauded the former lawmaker, who represented Aniocha/Oshimili Constituency in the Green Chamber from 1999 to 2003 for his patriotic contributions to the state and country, especially with his Malaria Eradication Project in Africa.

The governor affirmed that Nwoko had continued to make life meaningful for the downtrodden, and urged him not to rest on his oars.

Delta State Child’s Rights Implementation Committee Raises Concern Over Children In Conflict With The Law

… Proposes To Amend Sections Of The 2009 Child’s Rights Law

The Delta State Child’s Rights Implementation Committee has raised the concern over the increasing spate of children in conflict with the law, adding that such was becoming too difficult to deal with at the implementation stage of the Committee’s activities.

The issue prominently came up in the meeting of the Committee on Tuesday 20th December, 2022, where a resolution was reached to write to the Ministry of Education to wade into the matter with a view to coming up with solutions to the menace as far as pupils and students are concerned.

The Chairman of the Committee and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Mrs. Kevwe Agas submitted that the situation shows a loss of authority on the part of the parents and teachers who are supposed to be in the forefront of moulding and mentoring these children.

She said that the Ministry of Education must be notified of the breakdown of discipline in most of the public schools across the state, with particular mention of the West-End Secondary School Asaba, whose students’ names had consistently been mentioned in cases of indiscipline, rascality and improper behaviours both in the school and outside the school.

The Chairman also said she had noticed that the Child’s Rights Law of the State needs amendment to enable the Committee discharge its functions effectively and in accordance with the prevailing best legal practices as far as Child Protection is concerned.

Her words, “With the law being amended, we will be able to effect changes in the composition of the Committee to bring in especially representatives of Heads of primary schools, principals of secondary schools and Parents/Teachers Associations among others”.

She affirmed that she would collate the needed information alongside the Committee’s lawyer to approach the State House of Assembly for possible amendment.

Meanwhile, reports on activities of the year were given by different Committee members and investigators on the numerous cases handled by them, including advocacies, arrests, prosecutions and majorly, the establishment of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), in conjunction with the Ministry of Women Affairs, at the Asaba Specialist Hospital.

Whereas justice had been served in some of the cases, most are still on prosecution stages while some others were settled and dispensed with.

In a nutshell, the Committee resolved to continue with aggressive implementation of the law by interrogating every case of Child’s Rights infractions that comes to it, in addition to continuing with the advocacy initiative against child abuses.

We Hope For More Partnership, Successful Pilgrimage In 2023 – NCPC Boss

The Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC has said that the Commission hopes to get more partnership for pilgrimage exercise and hopes to achieve more successful pilgrimage exercises in 2023.

The NCPC Chief Executive gave the assurance during the Commission’s 2022 Christmas Carol in Abuja.

According to him, “we pray for partnership with as many Christians, individuals and organizations who will like to embark on the Holy Pilgrimage to Israel, Kingdom of Jordan, Rome and Greece.”

He added, “We are including Turkey by next year, we are having this high hopes that next year every believer will wish to visit the Holy Land.”

He further said that the Commission hopes for more successful pilgrimage, as the first batch just left and others have been screened to leave soon.

Rev. Pam further affirmed, “Pilgrimage is a continuous process and as many more embark on the exercise, we pray to record more success.”

The NCPC helmsman enjoined Christians specifically during this Christmas season to be more prayerful.

He appealed to Nigerians and Christians in particular to dedicate themselves to the services of our father land.

In his words, “if the land is safe our churches are safe, if the land is safe we have freedom to pray and worship God, so we should be fervent in prayers,” he said.

For the forthcoming elections, the NCPC Boss, admonished Nigerians to shun rumours that would cause confusion.

He enjoined Christians to come out en masse to vote in the 2023 General elections. According to him, “Even the Bible enjoins us to respect authorities and all civic responsibilities be kept”, he said.

Rev. Pam also urged Christians to see competence over ethnic or religion, “choose leaders who are God fearing, good and accountable to his people,” he said.

Earlier in his exhortation during the Carol, Rev. Pam advised Christians not to give up during trying moments, but to be steadfast and fervent in prayers. According to him, “for every road that leads to success there is a wilderness. Prepare your minds for criticism, persecutions, adding that as Christians these should not be strange to us, as the storm will pass and there will be dancing in the morning,” he said.

He commended the staff of the Commission for their resilience, hard work and commitment.

Take Responsibility Of Your Environment, Asiuwhu Tells Staff

Staff of Delta State Ministry of Environment has been enjoined to join hands with the state government in combating climate change and reducing their carbon footprint.

TypTyphehe Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Chief Godspower Asiuwhu gave the admonition during a two day training and education of staff of the Ministry on climate change and efficient service delivery at Professor Chime Edozien Secretariat, in Asaba the state capital.

Asiuwhu said dealing with climate change was an obligation they owe the future generations, as posterity would judge them if they fail to take responsibility, adding that they must be responsive to the clarion call to save the earth

He said climate change has become a daunting environmental challenge facing the world, which has threatened the socio economic prosperity of the state, posing a risk to the fiscal position of governments, living standard of individuals and can no longer be ignored as its effects were already manifesting as revealed in attendant  flooding and extreme weather conditions in recent times.

The Commissioner said as custodians of environment in the state, it was imperative to equip them with climate information, advisory services and reorientation on efficient service delivery so as to achieve desired results.

He added that the state has always been interest in participating in activities that would strengthen their capacity and combat climate change, which include opening possibilities for climate resilient development for Deltans through creation of enabling environment for climate change mitigation and adaptation activities, development of policy frameworks, legislations and climate plan which covers such broad areas as cat on emission reduction of greenhouse gas emission, tree planting advocacy amongst other measures.

The Commissioner urged them to build effective partnership and reinforce leadership to navigate through the environmental challenges so as to put the state economies on more resilient pathways.

In her words, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr (Mrs) Minnie Oseji  commended the state governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa  for the opportunity given to the staff of the Ministry.

Dr. Mrs Oseji admonished them to take the training serious and also train others on climate change and on how to be effective in service delivery.

Highlight of the event were lectures on ‘Personal Effectiveness’ by Dr Mrs Florence Otovwe;  ‘effective and efficient  service  delivery’ by Dr Munonye Osondu Mills and ‘Education on Action Needed by Reduce Green House Gases Emission and their negative impact’ by Efeturi Victor, amongst others.

 

 

2023 Election: Diden Calls For Effective Representation Of PDP

Delta South Senatorial Candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Michael Diden (Ejele) has called for effective representation and delivery of the Party across the state and federation.

Diden gave the call during the inauguration of support groups at his Secretariat in Asaba.

He said it would ensure continuity of government activities and more development in the state.

According to him, the actualisation of winning five over fiver, that is from the Presidency  down to the House of Assembly candidate of the Party should be their focus.

He urged the inaugurated support organisation to extend the manifestos of the candidates to their people at the grass root level, with the understanding that it is one man one vote.

On his part, the National Coordinator, Atiku Okowa Solidarity movement (AOSM), Amb.  Elder Ojo Orobosa, promised to ensure that the group  work towards the victory of the Party.

Orobosa said they would deliver the Nigerian from the failed leadership of the country, which had brought nothing but sufferings and pains to the citizens.
