My Father’s Wisdom Helps Me Overcome Challenges of Life – Emeka Onyeobi

… As Asaba Holds Egwu Ota In Honour of Late Iyase of Asaba

By Patrick Ochei

The first biological son of the late Iyase of Asaba, Mr. Emeka Christopher Onyeobi has said that the wisdom bequeathed to him by his father has continued to guide and help him in overcoming the challenges of life, describing his father as loving and open minded.

He made the statement in an interview with newsmen at the Ogwa Diokpa Idumuojei just as Asaba community performed the Egwu Ota traditional rite in honour of the late Obi Patrick Isioma Goodluck Onyeobi, being a prominent title holder in the land.

Mr. Emeka Onyeobi relayed his fond memories with his dad to the newsmen, positing that his wise counsels guided him in overcoming youthful exuberance.

His words, “My father taught me a lot; I learnt prudence and responsibility under his tutelage. In my first year in the university, I had returned home in the first month to demand for another allowance after I had been settled for that month. My father sat me down, taught me a huge lesson that I can never forget, making me understood that whatever he was to give me would cover for the next month, that he had already taken care of that particular month that I ran back home.

“That made me to sit up and manage with whatever I had. He was so loving and open hearted, not only to his children but to all who encountered him. He was such a blessing to us. His fond memories were life changing, which had more or less become like a structure for all of us. From his teachings, I knew I am not in competition with anybody; the only person I’m in competition with is myself.

“I know that the shoes he left behind are too big for me or any other person to fit in, but I have his wisdom to continue to guide me. I have children now who are already living on their own, same wise counsel I am transferring to them”, Onyeobi Junior posited.

The Eqwu Ota is a very significant traditional dance in Asaba Kingdom, especially for title holders and women above 60 years of age.

From an underground understanding, the dance comes with seven stanzas during the burial of a title holder. The first stanza is called the ‘Egwu Nmor’ which no human dances to except those that have transited. The second stanza is played for the first daughter (Ada) to dance to, before the elderly people can now dance to the third stanza up to the sixth stanza.

The seventh stanza is called the ‘Egwu Diokpa’ which is for the eldest son to dance to, after which any other person can begin to participate.

The Egwu Ota ceremony witnessed the attendance of eminent title holders in Asaba, starting from Ndi Obi, Ndi Ogbu, Ndi Okwulegwe, Umuada, the Olinzeles and others, all looking radiantly dressed in white and radiating royal ambience.

Why Emma Chinye Anchors On Good Governance In His G.A.I.N.S Blueprint To Advance Aniocha North

The man Hon. Emma Bazim Chinye is not a neophyte in politics, neither is he a kindergarten in governance. A man who was a Commissioner for Culture and Tourism – a terrain largely populated with diverse human ideas and perspectives.

He was also a two term Chairman of Delta State Waste Management Board, an office that demands hygienic and clinical approach to human and environmental challenges of cleanliness.

In all of these areas he was appointed to serve, he did very well and that equally got him the endorsement to step down to the grassroots to change the narrative of governance at that level of government (the third tier of government).

He has among his five critical areas of focus in his programme of leadership, spotted *Good Governance* as his first angle of attack.

Without casting aspersions on previous administrators of the Local Government that did their best in their own capacities, Hon. Emma Chinye is coming in with finesse and class that will make all the difference.

Based on his congnate experience in grassroots leadership, Hon. Emma Chinye as Chairman will anchor his administration on knowledge and technology driven government that will impact greatly on the citizenry.

Let’s do it with him – Vote him in and expect immense and effectual attention to *Good Governance* for the benefit of the majority of Aniocha Northerners.

ONE YEAR IN OFFICE: Celebrating A Spectacle Senator

By Norbert Chiazor

On the floor and foyer of the National Assembly, he stands different. His looks, ever dapper-snow white “agbada”,blazing Anioma red cap, natty aura…
Vintage Senator Ned Nwoko.

But that is not why the PDP senator representing Delta North at the 10th Nigerian senate is a game -changer.

20 years after Prince Ned Nwoko bowed out in 2003 as the most vocal lawmaker representing Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency in the House of Representatives, he took the Senate by storm in 2023,creating records.

He was inaugurated into the red chambers of NASS on June 13,2023 along with over 100 senators.

All eyes on Senator Ned Nwoko for peculiar reasons:

Nigeria is a nation on its death knell. A sick sad country enslaved by inept leadership and social decay, in urgent need of solution.
Rescuers.Warriors.Exemplars… A name like Ned.

Entrepreneur, international lawyer, doyen of Paris club loans refunds, founder of first sports university, Arts and Tourism connoisseur, anti -Malaria environmentalist, Antarctica explorer – Nigeria needs Ned Nwoko.

Again, every politics is local.Anioma,a lofty land of excellent stunts needed the election of Senator Ned Nwoko as a miracle to pull Delta North out of a ridiculous mud of infamy it was plunged in the last legislative circle.

One year after, the Idumuje-Ugboko born Anioma son, has done much to uplift the nation and restore the wasted years the locust eat in Delta North.

His impact rings beyond political rhetoric.

At NASS,Senator Nwoko ranks among the most respected. He is a member of 16 strategic committees, a tribute to his tremendous capacity.

Senator Nwoko, flexing his charisma, attracted a whopping N3.5 billion Naira federal budget for the development of key infrastructure in Anioma land -roads water, electricity, markets, hospitals as well as capacity building. That he disclosed the amount in a country where politicians are notorious for opaque character, speak of exceptional transparency, in the conduct of public office.

He ensured that the Okpai electricity project and the Ogwashi Uku dam abandoned years ago come on steam.

Earlier in November 2023,Nwoko had empowered 250 youths and women at Asaba,Delta capital. Each beneficiary got a sum of #150,000, in a fulfilling poverty alleviation and wealth creation skill acquisition scheme.

On the stable of the senator is succour to over 1,000 people of Delta North through implementation of conditional cash transfer (#50,000 each) ,under federal government’s social programme.

Scheduled for this month under the watch of Nwoko are capacity development training for farmers on data-driven livestock feeding and alternative livestock feed methods in Delta North as well as digital training in branding and social media management for youths.

Senator Nwoko secured the freedom of some family members arrested by the military for manufacturing weapons in Onicha-Olona,a Delta North community.
The suspects according to reports, have the skills to build drones and modify Ak-47 rifle designed to hold 30 rounds to 60 rounds. The Senator had explained that he took interest in the family because the country needed to support the development of the skills of such talented persons.

He championed the release of the traditional ruler of Ewu- Urhobo kingdom,His Royal Majesty, Clement Oghenerukevwe Ikolo,Urhukpe 1,detained in Abuja by military authorities, following the March 14 killing of 17 soldiers on a peace mission in Okuama community. A senator representing beyond tribal boundaries.

The key function of a Senator is lawmaking.Nwoko is among the most active Senators in Nigeria with over 20 bills and dozens of motions to his credit. Amazing feat for a first time Senator.

The bills covered diaspora voting, gun ownership and security, rent, youth entrepreneurship grant programme, waste management and malaria eradication, parliamentary governance system among others. The latest, bill for the creation of Anioma, the oldest agitation in Nigeria’s history.

His motions and views include sanctions over crude oil theft, rehabilitation of Asaba -Benin road and East -West expressway, Gas flaring and compensation, anti kidnapping and security surveillance,IPOB and Boko Haram insurgency, as well as repatriations against colonialism.

Senator Nwoko’s labour of outstanding representation had been remarkably rewarding. Political stakeholders, traditional rulers, youths and women drawn from the nine local government areas of Delta North have at different times beginning from April 2024, passed vote of total confidence in him,for his excellent footing at the senate.

One year on seat, Senator Ned Nwoko…

Anioma and
Delta bask in national reckoning.

Ned Nwoko’s Call For Anioma State Creation: Where Nwaezeigwe Got It Wrong

By Norbert Chiazor

I read with keen interest Diokpa Nwankwo T. Nwaezeigwe’s treatise on Senator Ned Nwoko’s Bill proposing the creation of Anioma state.
Senator Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly primarily seeks Anioma creation to be included in the South East to correct “geopolitical imbalance” in Nigeria’s federal structure. Today Anioma is a constituent of Delta State created on 27 August 1991 as part of the six states of the South South zone.
Nwaezeigwe took umbrage that the Senator wants Anioma to join Anambra, Abia Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi to become the sixth state in South Eastern Nigeria.
Democracy confers liberty of free speech. One would have excused Nwaezeigwe for his dissenting voice.
But he crossed the bounds of decency and enlightened discourse by attacking the religious proclivity, personality and private life of Senator Nwoko.
How does Nwoko’s fervent call amount to Nwaezeigwe labelling him a “Muslim Igbo Senator representing the core interest of Sokoto Caliphate among the predominantly Christian Igbo of Delta State”?
What gross intolerance for a self styled sectarian leader who identifies himself as “President, International Coalition against Christian Genocide in Nigeria (ICAC-GEN)”
By raising false spurious hoopla over Nwoko’s religious preference, Nwaezeigwe immediately rubbishes his ’ICAN-GEN’ and leaves a yawning question mark on the essence of the little known Christian organization.
Ghen ghen! So a man abhorrent of genocide does not want another man to practice his religion in peace? Crude hypocrisy.
Senator Nwoko is a true Nigerian. He has friends all over the country including Sokoto. Pan-Nigerian, exemplary patriot and completely detribalised.
If Nwaezeigwe is a religious fanatic, cocooned by xenophobia, Nwoko remains openly cosmopolitan and can never be a jihadist. But should Nwaezeigwe insist on stoking jihad, he can lead a crusade to Sambisa forest.
The unkindest cut is his awful claim that “it is in agreement with this core Fulani interest that Senator Ned Nwoko placed his mother-in-law Mrs. Rita Daniels as Women Leader of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu-led Ohaneze Ndigbo”
Whatever position Mrs Rita Daniels earned today is by dint of diligence with her acclaimed exploits in Nigeria’s creative Nollywood industry.
Nwaezeigwe bears the title “ Odogwu of Ibusa”. His acrid outburst against Nwoko is regrettably infra dig, for his chieftaincy status.
What is the problem of Nwaezeigwe with Ohaneze Ndigbo? Is he wiser than the more experienced and visionary Ralph Uwechue, the late Ogwashi -born Anioma renowned diplomat who once served as President General of the apex Igbo body?
He rambled further that the “major concern of the people is food on their tables and security of their lives and property…”
Glib lamentation, akin to singing to a choir. Who will inform Nwaezeigwe that Senator Nwoko has devoted substantial time out of his one year stay so far at the National Assembly, championing advocacy against insecurity and banditry in Nigeria.

Nwoko’s charity is in the public domain. He feeds thousands regularly whether in his Idumuje- Ugboko country home or Abuja abode. A sizeable population enjoys his scholarships as well as skill acquisition packages, for women and youths towards self sustenance and poverty reduction. Who did Nwaezeigwe help?
On the central issue of Anioma state creation, Senator Nwoko knows the agitation predates his bill. As a lawyer/historian,he fully understands that the clamour is the oldest in Nigeria, dating to the 1960s.
In his presentation, he eloquently acknowledged the pioneering efforts of the late Asagba of Asaba ,Obi professor Chike Edozien and Obi of Owa,HRM Emmanuel Efeizomor II among others. He never at any time claimed to be the “ pioneer initiator” as balefully assumed by Nwaezeigwe.
Senator Nwoko’s call for inclusion of Anioma in South East is a plain innocuous urge based on contiguity and equity. He is a refined democrat. South South or South East, he believes that the final decision lies with the people.
His quest for Anioma stands as the larger picture. So beautiful.
Nwaezeigwe’s Ibusa kinsman, unforgettable Senator Nosike Ikpo now late, advocated in the 1980s for the creation of Anioma while working in the Joint committee of House and Senate under the chairmanship of Senator Barkin Zuwo.
Why attack a pleasant progressive movement? Nwaezeigwe is obviously not more Anioma than Ikpo and Nwoko.
Fair and square, Anioma people across all quarters are very proud of Senator Ned Nwoko for his potent voice and actions since he went to represent them at NASS a year ago.A saving departure from ugly yesterday when Delta North was pitiably patterned in ridicule.
Among the discerning, the suspicion is rife…Could there be something more to Diopka Nwaezeigwe’s diatribe of malice?
Is Nwaezeigwe whining because one of his kindred failed to offer what Senator Ned Nwoko is getting to Anioma – excellent scandal free representation?
