Nwoko’s Leadership, Entrepreneurial and Corporate Governance Bill: A Testament to Real Political Thought

By Somadina Anwasia

In a time when politics often appears driven by fleeting interests and populist sentiments, Senator Ned Nwoko’s recent bill seeking to establish the Institute of Leadership, Entrepreneurial and Corporate Governance stands out as an act of real political thought, a deliberate effort to shape the moral and intellectual foundations of governance in Nigeria.
At its core, this bill transcends routine lawmaking. It represents the systematic study and reflection on the institutions and practices that form the backbone of society, leadership, governance, and enterprise. In essence, it is an inquiry into the very fabric of political life: how power is exercised, how justice is pursued, and how governance can be structured to promote accountability and development.
True political thought is not confined to partisan debates or policy slogans; it delves into the philosophy of governance, exploring ideas about the ideal state, the nature of authority, and the balance between individual freedom and collective responsibility. Senator Nwoko’s proposal reflects this depth. By envisioning an institute dedicated to leadership, entrepreneurship, and corporate governance, he is advocating for a structure that not only educates but also interrogates how Nigeria’s leaders in public and private sectors alike think, act, and serve.
The establishment of such an institute would institutionalize the study of power and justice in practical terms. It would train leaders to understand that governance is not merely about occupying offices but about managing people, resources, and institutions ethically and efficiently. It would also serve as a breeding ground for innovative entrepreneurs and corporate leaders who appreciate the connection between economic productivity and social responsibility.
Historically, nations that have advanced politically and economically are those that invested in institutions that nurture reflective leadership, where political ideas are tested against ethical standards and social realities. Plato’s Republic, for instance, explored the idea of the philosopher-king, one who governs not out of ambition but out of wisdom. Similarly, the proposed institute echoes this age-old idea: that leadership is a discipline requiring rigorous intellectual and moral grounding.
In a developing democracy like Nigeria, where governance challenges often stem from poor leadership culture and weak institutional ethics, this bill is timely and transformative. It recognizes that progress begins with the mind of the leader and that political systems thrive when guided by informed, visionary, and accountable individuals.
Ultimately, Senator Ned Nwoko’s initiative is more than a legislative proposal; it is a philosophical statement, a call to elevate politics beyond self-interest to the realm of reflective governance and civic virtue. If successfully implemented, the Institute of Leadership, Entrepreneurial and Corporate Governance could become a cornerstone for rethinking how Nigeria cultivates leaders and manages power, marking a significant step toward a more just, intelligent, and sustainable society.

Delta Gov, Sheriff Oborevwori Deserves Commendation and Support- Mulade

…Appeal for Riverine Infrastructural Revolution In 2026 Budget

A Delta State-born renowned peace and development advocate Comrade Mulade Sheriff, Ph.D has commended His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Executive Governor of Delta State for the infrastructural revolution in the state.

It is imperative to state that, the governor has won the heart of Deltans for his developmental strides, irrespective of political affiliation.

‘let me specifically appreciate the governor once again for using construction giant Julius Berger Plc for the three flyovers situated in Uvwie Local Government Area around Warri axis of the State and the proposed Ughelli and Agbor flyovers to ease traffic flow in those areas”, he noted.

Governor Oborevwori has equally embarked on stormwater drainages and several roads construction projects in the state, which are very impressive demonstration of determine and dedicated governor efforts towards his people.

Speaking further, “however, I wish to strongly appeal to His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to consider and give deep sense of belonging to the riverine communities dominated by Ijaw and Itsekiri to equally enjoy the dividend of infrastructural revolution being embarked upon by his administration.

“it is pertinent to remind the governor that Ijaw and Itsekiri areas contributes over 60 percent of the state economy through oil and gas resources and the blue econom, which make the state the richest in Nigeria and there is no significant projects in this area worthy of note, inspite of their huge contributions to the revenue base of the state, Mulade quipped.

“Let me use this opportunity to sincerely appeal on behalf of the good and peace loving people of Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities that the 2026 Delta State budget must give critical consideration to the people by accommodating the Ayakoromo bridge, Torugbene-Ojobo road project, Omadino-Okerenkoko-Kokodiagbene- Escravos Road etc. These areas deserves development beyond just elections and vote-seeking in 2027 and beyond.

“Your Excellency, it is worthy of note that the riverine areas are tired of 1 or 2km concrete walk-ways in their communities regarded as roads rather we need the coastal communities/areas to be connected to the upland for economy viability and growth”, he emphasized.

It is worthy of note that, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has done very well in terms of stormwater drainages and road projects and same gesture should be extended to the economy sources by deploying Julius Berger to handle such projects for durability, thereby writing his name in gold and sink his identity in the heart of riverine people like His Excellency, Chief James Onanafe Ibori, former governor who boldly achieved Bomadi and Omadino bridges that as linked those areas to upland in the state, he added.

Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary ( CPS) to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, Aniagwu explained that the visit was strictly a working mission designed to deepen technical collaboration and secure more favourable project terms for Delta State.

A Closer Look At Senator Ned Nwoko Push For A National Social Security Agency

Senator Ned Munir Nwoko has put one of the Senate’s more ambitious social policy proposals squarely in the spotlight. A Bill to establish a National Social Security Agency (NSSA), a data-driven body to replace the current Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and to sit under the Office of the President. The idea is simple in language but consequential in intent. Turn what many see as ad-hoc, politicised relief into a predictable, rights-based social security system.

For Senator Nwoko, the idea didn’t emerge from committee meetings. It was born out of experience, years of living, studying, and working abroad, particularly in the United Kingdom. There, he witnessed firsthand how functional governments quietly but efficiently take care of their people. To him, the difference between advanced societies and Nigeria isn’t intelligence or resource base, it’s the presence of systems that guarantee citizens’ basic welfare. “In those societies,” he once remarked, “people don’t pray to survive, the system works for them. The government becomes their god, their silent provider.” That experience stayed with him and now fuels his determination to see Nigeria adopt a welfare structure where no one has to beg for help to survive.

In an open letter and subsequent presentations on the floor, Senator Ned Nwoko framed the measure as a structural fix. Instead of the present ministry model which he argues delivers short term palliatives and, at times, fragmented programmes, the NSSA would centralise targeting, payments and long-term planning for the poor, elderly, unemployed and other vulnerable groups. He has pitched the agency as data-centred. Registration, biometric IDs, unified databases and direct, traceable payments are part of the blueprint. Every beneficiary would be registered on a unified database, verified, and supported directly through transparent, trackable payments.

Why The Bill Matters
Nigeria’s social protection architecture has been criticised for being reactive rather than preventative. Frequent emergencies, food inflation and rising unemployment have made millions vulnerable; ad hoc cash transfers and donor-led initiatives have failed to create a dependable safety net. Senator Ned Nwoko’s consistent argument is that a legal, well funded agency will protect dignity by ensuring entitlement and predictability rather than leaving relief to the shifting priorities of ministers and short political cycles. He also stressed that Nigerians deserve a system that sees their right to survival as a constitutional obligation, not a favour.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s proposal recommends that social security funds be treated as a first-line charge from the Federation Account, deducted at source and distributed by law. In his words, “If our lawmakers can guarantee salaries for political office holders through first-line charge, then we can certainly guarantee food and shelter for citizens who have nothing.”

The Bill has passed its first reading and has since enjoyed public backing from several civil society groups who see the switch as a necessary reform. Senator Ned Nwoko has presented the move as bipartisan in spirit, and he’s been vocal, publishing his ideas in an open letter to the president and pressing for the legislation to be treated as urgent. Whether that urgency translates into the votes and sustained executive buy-in the bill needs is a live question.
