Uzum Calls For Unified Ultramodern Digital Television/Radio Station In Delta
By Johnson Ebigide
Eugene Azuka Uzum has advocated for a unified Ultramodern digital television and radio transmission station with high frequency reach for a better dissemination of public information in the state and beyond.
Uzum, a lawyer, public analyst and an advocate of good governance in Delta State, stated this against the unwholesome disinformation causing unnecessary political tension in the state.
He said the state government should concentrate its effort on a unified Ultramodern digital television and radio transmission station in the state with an enhanced transmission outreach to all the parts of the state and beyond, instead of the fragmented situation of transmission in the state.
He maintained that other neighbouring states, such as Abia, Anambra, Edo,etc, were already enjoying such unified transmission of information in their respective states, wondering why the case had been different in Delta State, several years after its creation.
Uzum said whatever was responsible for the anomaly should be rectified, adding that not only would the awakening bring about greater and unified public information dissemination in the state, but would reduce running costs and enhance budgetary allocations, infrastructural development and gadgets update for the station.
“Sen. Ned Nwoko Is Right, .Aniomas Are Igbos“-Obi Of Idumuje Unor
The Traditional Ruler of Idumuje unor,in Aniocha North local government area of Delta state, His Royal Majesty Obi Charles Chukwunweike Anyasi III, says the inhabitants of Delta North Senatorial District popularly called Anioma are Igbos and affirmed that Senator Ned Nwoko was right in his classification of the people.
Speaking on a special TVC interview programme “Behind the Headlines” Obi Anyasi III,said there are “ claims to different ancestries but Aniomas are statutorily Igbos”
Reflecting on the historical and cultural identity of Anioma people, the Obi,a veteran media personality turned king said :
“ The original concept of “Anioma” ( the good land ) was by Sir Dennis Osadebay who proposed the acronym with “ A” meaning Aniocha, “ N” Ndokwa “ I” Ika and “O” Oshimili, using additional letters M and A for poetic excellence.
“ Anioma is empowered by nature . The land mass is about 6,000 square metres with a current population of about 2 million people. The viability is rooted in solid work force, industries- formal and informal sectors, plants and fauna, cultural artifacts and dance patterns”
Tracing the history of Anioma statehood, the Obi said it began in 1954 in London under the lyttleton constitution regarded as the first genuine federal constitution in Nigeria, named after then Secretary of State for the colonies and aimed to strengthen regional autonomy.
He noted that the demand had “witnessed nine phases of agitation” with Sir Dennis Osadebay as the front runner of Anioma struggle.
The monarch said the quest “has been gathering great momentum since last year when Senator Ned Nwoko initiated a bill for the creation of Anioma state in the 10th senate of the National Assembly” .
Obi Anyasi III said the “agitation represents a natural desire you cannot take away from the people”
On the divergence of views about which zone the proposed Anioma state should be placed, the king said :
“ If you ask me as a person if I have a right of first refusal,I will say South south , but with the current political dimension,it probably would not work well. The reported mind set of the President speaks of the need to balance the equation of the federal structure with the reality of five states in the South East.
“When you bring food on the table even in a local family setting, there is usually disagreements. Not everybody will agree to the eating on the table. So if you are expecting that every Anioma person will say yes, that won’t be possible. There is right to public opinion. But what i am saying is if the current optics goes for settlement in the south east, and we see that we cannot change it ,why don’t we accept it? That is the point”
The monarch also addressed the potential benefits of Anioma and said it would yield greater opportunities:
“ The dividends of democracy will come closer with Anioma state creation. We moved from Midwest to Bendel to where we are now. We shouldn’t fear the future. I believe that with all we have ,we can seek self determination for our state .
“ Delta state government is doing its best with the given resources. The state governor (Rt.Hon,Sheriff Oborevwori) is one of the best governors we have had. He is doing his best to ensure that development trickles down. But like I said, desire is inexhaustive”
The Idumuje unor traditional ruler described by the moderator of the TVC programme ,Nifemi Oguntoye , as a royal father who “embodies the cultural heritage and modern aspirations of Anioma people”, leads the debate that Anioma symbolizes not only a viable entity but historical necessity to balance Nigeria’s geopolitical equation.
Ned Nwoko Champions Rural ICT Development With New Centre at Idumuje-Ugboko School
By Juliet Ugah
The ongoing ICT Centre at Comprehensive Secondary School, Idumuje-Ugboko, is already taking shape beautifully.
This is the indefatigable effort of Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko, who understands the importance of giving rural communities access to ICT and the vast opportunities it holds.
About seventy percent of Nigerians live in rural communities, and that’s why projects like this are so important.
Our community schools deserve the same access and opportunities as schools in the cities.
The importance of ICT knowledge, especially at a young or teenage age, cannot be overemphasized. While empowerment programs for farmers, market women, and young entrepreneurs are commendable, creating opportunities for our youngsters is equally vital. Thankfully, we have a Senator who is intentional about covering all fronts of empowerment.

On infrastructure, Oyibode disclosed that his administration has completed a befitting executive chairman’s office, procured official vehicles for key council officers, rehabilitated toilets and office equipment, and is constructing a government residential quarters to ensure future Chairmen reside within Udu.
He also unveiled plans for a government settlement on surveyed council land, which will include staff quarters, an NYSC lodge, and other facilities.
In the area of security, Oyibode announced the ongoing construction of a modern divisional police headquarters with residential quarters for officers, noting that Udu had been the only local government headquarters in state without such a facility.
On environmental sustainability, Oyibode said the council has undertaken desilting of over three kilometers of drainage channels, opened canals to mitigate flooding, and enforced sanitation laws to ensure cleaner markets and streets.
He stressed that illegal structures have been removed while shop owners and residents are now compelled to maintain their surroundings.

The Chairman also emphasized his commitment to tackling social vices, particularly drug abuse, through campaigns and collaboration with regulatory agencies and pharmacists’ associations.
He further hinted at moves to regulate the rising cost of building materials, especially sand, to protect residents from exploitation.
Oyibode, who recalled how he was unanimously adopted by all political parties during the last local government election, described himself as a “servant leader” committed to humility and inclusiveness.

He pledged to carry elders, civil servants, and community leaders along in all decision-making processes.
He revealed that his efforts have already attracted recognition, including an award from the National Youth Council of Nigeria as the “Most Productive Local Government in Nigeria.”
“Udu is now peaceful, investors can come, and our people can sleep with their eyes closed,” Oyibode assured. “I am only challenged to do more in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE agenda of peace, reform, and meaningful development for all Deltans.”
Osilonya Showcases 30 Projects, Sets Agricultural Agenda for Ndokwa East
The Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Vincent Osilonya, has announced that his administration has executed 30 projects since assuming office.
Osilonya made the disclosure while receiving the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspaper, Prince Joseph Oromonokpaye, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to the council.

He explained that his administration prioritized infrastructure and agriculture by adopting a financial policy where 80 percent of available council funds, after salaries, were dedicated to capital projects, while 20 percent was set aside for overhead expenses. According to him, this prudent approach has enabled the council to deliver meaningful results.
“Our one-year anniversary featured 29 completed projects, and with the addition of a new borehole, the total now stands at 30,” Osilonya noted.

On human capital development, the Chairman cautioned against indiscriminate cash empowerment and distribution of starter packs, stressing that many beneficiaries misuse or sell such support. Instead, he emphasized channeling resources toward genuine farmers and sustainable ventures.
Outlining his agricultural plans, Osilonya revealed that the council is pursuing land acquisition and procuring processing equipment for cassava, yam, and plantain to enhance food production and boost export opportunities. He explained that modern garri-processing machines covering peeling, washing, grinding, pressing, and frying—would be installed in phases, helping farmers access bigger markets with well-packaged products.
He further stated that although budgetary constraints had slowed down full implementation of the law mandating councils to commit two percent of allocations to agriculture, a special agricultural account was being established to ensure compliance. The goal, he said, is to empower real farmers with improved seedlings and equipment rather than temporary handouts.

Osilonya, who maintains close ties with rural communities, assured that any beneficiary found selling empowerment tools would be compelled to refund the council.
He stressed that the combined focus on infrastructure and agriculture was a deliberate strategy to build a lasting foundation that transcends political promises while strengthening the economy of Ndokwa East.
The visit was rounded off with a tour of some completed projects in the council area.
