DSCTDA DG Ukah Storms Project Sites, Demands Quality Delivery on Okwe, Asaba Roads

By Kingsley Chibuzor

The Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Hon. Patrick Ukah, today, Wednesday, undertook an intensive inspection of ongoing road projects in Oshimili South Local Government Area, issuing a firm charge to contractors to deliver on quality and speed.

Projects visited include the Construction/Rehabilitation of Okwe Market–Umuapa Quarters Road–St. Theresa Catholic Church Road–Old Oko Road, Okwe, with a total length of 1,605 meters, and the Construction of Chris Abudei Street/Ogbueshi M. Onochie Street, Asaba, spanning 2.6 kilometers.

Ukah, accompanied by the DSCTDA Project Manager, Engr. Bawo Atsiangbe, warned that the Agency will not compromise on standards, stressing that the roads must meet approved specifications and timelines.

“These projects are critical to opening up communities, easing mobility, and boosting socio-economic activities. Contractors must understand that there is no room for shortcuts. DSCTDA will be on ground to monitor every stage,” Ukah declared.

The DG assured residents that the Agency remains fully committed to sustaining infrastructural development across the capital territory, adding that government funds must translate into visible, lasting impact.

Gov Oborevwori’s Foreign Trips ‘ll Yield Positive Results, Upscale Delta Economic Growth – Bureau DG

The Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Communications and Orientation, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has assured that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s foreign trips would yield positive results in strategic sectors of the state economy, especially in agriculture, CNG powered buses for  transportation, and waste to wealth economic remodelling.

He gave the assurance on Saturday while reacting to comments by a social media influencer, alleging that the governor’s foreign trips are yet to attract sufficient foreign investments to Delta State.

Dr Oghenesivbe noted that Governor Oborevwori’s administration has been a game changer, delivering on his electioneering promises to the people, and that the governor will remain focused on his deliberate efforts to attract direct foreign investments to the state.

He explained that after foreign investment trips by the governor and other government officials, a reasonable time is required to perfect negotiations,  immigration arrangements for expatriates, and necessary legal documentations; especially in the areas of factors of production, technology transfer where necessary, repatriation of profits on investment, tax holidays and other incentives between parties before physical presence of foreign investors to commence business in the state.

He further assured that government officials foreign investment trips are not, and will never be a jamboree at the detriment of public funds as alleged by a social media influencer, adding that governor Oborevwori is well known to be allergic to waste of public funds, and will never embark on fruitless foreign investment trips; not now, and not in the future

The Bureau Chief said the trailblazing legacy of the governor through pragmatic and  visionary leadership would continue to upscale the socioeconomic and infrastructure development of the state, attract unprecedented economic growth and progress across the three senatorial districts.

He pointed out that Governor Oborevwori’s administration has prioritized infrastructure development, transforming the state’s roads, building mega bridges to enhance movement of goods and services, noting that the impact is evident in the improved rural-urban connectivity, enhanced economic activities, and increased access to social services.

“The governor’s diplomatic efforts through strategic foreign investment trips would sooner than later yield bountiful fruits, by attracting foreign investments from countries like China and Brazil.

“These partnerships will open up new opportunities for economic growth, technology transfer, job and wealth creation across the three senatorial districts in the state.

“The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Rural Electrification Agency in Abuja, marks a significant milestone in the state’s quest for improved electricity supply. This partnership will enhance access to reliable power, attract local and foreign investments, and ultimately drive economic growth and improve the living standards of our people.

“As we look towards the future, it’s evident that Governor Oborevwori’s reelection in 2027 is not just a possibility, but a necessity. His track record speaks for itself, and Deltans would be wise to continue supporting his administration.

“I urge all Deltans to join me in commending Governor Oborevwori for his outstanding leadership. Let us rally behind him and continue to support his vision for a better Delta State.

“Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and future generations. Let us make a collective pledge to stand by Governor Oborevwori’s administration till May 29, 2031, and beyond,” the statement added.

Delta Community Calls On NDDC To Reconstruct Failed Road, Revitalise Economy

Amuokpokpor-Elume community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, south-south Nigeria, has appealed to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to resume work on the collapsed road connecting the agrarian community to other parts of the council.

The community made the appeal while interacting with newsmen following their continuous complaints about the deplorable state of the road, loss of life, and paralysis of their economic activities just a year after its completion by the contractor.

Daniel Ogbodo, the community Chairman, who recounted how the project started in 2020, alleged that the contractor used substandard materials to carry out the project, resulting in its outright failure after one year of completion.

According to the community chairman, the road constitutes a “death trap” owing to the presence of heaps of stones, exposed construction iron, and no drainage.

“At the project’s inception, the community was filled with jubilation, knowing the struggles residents had faced with poor road conditions for years. However, we were surprised that the newly constructed concrete paved road did not last a year before deteriorating, leaving the community in a worse state than before the contractor’s intervention.

Community elders, Olu Majelele and Felix EmuobonuvieFelix Emuobonuvie, President General of Elume District, urged NDDC to revisit the site and construct a good road, bemoaning the immense hardship resulting from the road’s deplorable condition.

They highlighted the challenges caused by the poor road conditions, including frequent falls and delayed vehicular movement.

“Currently, the Amuokpokpor road is almost impassable because the rods and other metal objects utilized in its construction has resurfaced. This has resulted in the bursting of motorcycle and vehicle tyres. Consequently, no one wants to ride their motorcycle or drive their vehicle into the village for fear of punctured tyres.

In the recent past, this road has been the site of a heartbreaking incident that led to the loss of our son, whose vehicle overturned, resulting in his instantaneous death. A visual inspection of the road, which was built less than five years ago, reveals the existence of multiple potholes. We humbly request that the NDDC deploy their site engineer to inspect the road and provide support to the Amuokpokpor-Elume community, as this road serves as the community’s sole access route, Majelele and Emuobonuvie submitted.

On behalf of the women in the community, Mrs. Mercy Izobo and Mrs. Bridget Emuobonuvie shared the difficulties they experienced in conveying their goods to market.

According to the women, the men and women of Amuokpokpor are involved in farming various crops, including cassava, rubber, timber, fishery, plantain, snails, yam, palm oil, among others, but encounter difficulties in marketing their processed products due to the prohibitive transportation costs, as drivers demand a hundred percent fare increase, attributing it to the bad road conditions, leading to spoilage of their farm produce at home.

Others who also spoke, including John Otuma, Samuel Izobo, Comedy Ogbodo, Richard Edi, among others, commended the NDDC for initiating the road project in their community, but appealed to them to address their concerns and complete the road project to transform the community landscape and enhance economic activities in the area.

Furthermore, they appealed to the NDDC to extend the road project to the riverbank, including a jetty and drainage system, to safeguard the riverine community against flooding resulting from heavy downpours and riverbank landslides.

Sen Ned Nwoko And His Unwavering Support For Ndokwa Nation

One of the most striking qualities of Senator Ned Nwoko’s representation in the 10th Senate is his special interest in the Ndokwa nation. It is not accidental, neither is it tokenistic. It is deliberate, intentional, and rooted in what he personally witnessed while traversing the entire nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial District during his campaign.

For those who were part of that campaign train, his deep concern for Ndokwa would come as no surprise. His visits to Ndokwa communities were not routine political stopovers, they were moments filled with raw emotions. At each turn, he encountered poverty amidst plenty, neglect amidst abundance. Oil and gas installations dotted the land, yet the people lived far below the poverty line.

One encounter stood out vividly: a young, sick girl sharing living space with livestock. The image of that moment which later went viral showed Senator Ned with tears in his eyes. For him, it was not just a sad story, it was a symbol of decades of neglect. That moment ignited a personal vow: “Ndokwa must not remain in the shadows of Nigeria’s development”. From then, it became clear that the senator’s representation would carry a unique Ndokwa-centric intentionality.

True to his word, the very first motion Senator Ned Nwoko moved in the Senate was the need to investigate the incessant and nefarious acts of crude oil theft in the Niger Delta and its actors. This was no coincidence. It was a direct response to the Ndokwa condition. A land rich in hydrocarbons yet deprived of the wealth it generates. That motion gave birth to a Senate Ad-hoc Committee, which he now chairs. His leadership there has brought the plight of Ndokwa and the wider Niger Delta into sharper national focus.

While the process was already underway, Senator Ned Nwoko took it further by visiting all International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in Ndokwa/Ukwuani, where he boldly confronted the glaring abnormalities and impunities. Building on this, he sponsored another critical motion titled: Urgent Need to Stop Gas Flaring and Enforce Anti-Gas Flaring Regulations in Ndokwa Land and the Niger Delta Region.

No conversation about Ndokwa’s development can be complete without addressing the Okpai Independent Power Plant (IPP). Approved over twenty years ago with a promise to step down 100 megawatts for Ndokwa, the project became a symbol of betrayal. While the plant feeds the national grid, Ndokwa people continue to live in darkness.

Senator Ned Nwoko placed this matter squarely before the Senate in his motion titled: Need to Address the Unexplained Delay of Electricity Supply in Ndokwa Land and Step-down of Okpai Independent Power Plant. His advocacy has already secured Senate backing. He has since held engagements with the Ministers of Power and Petroleum Resources, both of whom acknowledged the urgency but cited lack of federal funds to execute the project. In a display of pragmatism, Senator Ned turned to the Delta State Governor, urging the state to either directly fund the step-down or attract credible contractors and investors who could finance and recover costs transparently.

Senator Ned Nwoko has shown remarkable responsiveness to emergencies in Ndokwa nation. A recent case in point is his motion, Urgent Call for Emergency Provisions for Victims of Flooding in Ndokwa Communities, which brought national attention to the devastating floods in the area. Acting swiftly, the Senate directed NEMA to provide immediate relief materials, while broader, long-term interventions are being considered to mitigate future occurrences. Beyond emergency relief, Senator Nwoko has also pushed for lasting infrastructural solutions. Notably, he successfully lobbied the inclusion of a major Coastal Road project into the NDDC budget—an ambitious N27 billion intervention traversing Asaba – Oko – Abala – Utchi – Okpai – Abalagada – Aboh – Akarai – Umoru – Adaja – Oworubia – Onyah – Asaba-Ase – Abari – Patani. This massive infrastructure is designed not only to ease transportation but also to serve as a permanent flood-control mechanism, giving Ndokwa communities both relief and resilience.

When the issue of illegal crude transportation through Ndokwa East became alarming, community leaders reached out through Ambrose Abel. Senator Nwoko immediately intervened, directing them to choose any vehicle of their preference to strengthen the 20-man vigilante team earlier approved by the DPO of Ashaka. In the end, he went further by providing three vehicles, one for Ndokwa East and two others for Ndokwa West and Ukwuani LGAs, along with other essential logistics. In addition, he approved salaries for the vigilante members, to ensure their sustainability. Today, the Zero Tolerance for Crime, Oil Theft, and Pipeline Vandalism Initiative stands as a reliable local security structure, complementing the Nigerian Police in Ndokwa.

To ensure Ndokwa has a fair share of federal opportunities, Senator Ned has strategically placed Ndokwa indigenes in his team. Through a three-man committee comprising Chief Obielum, Larry Ezechi, and Ambrose Abel, over 100 Ndokwa youths have benefited from his empowerment and entrepreneurship programs, as well as his free medical outreach and provision of medical equipment to health centres in Ndokwa communities. In the area of agriculture, Ndokwa farmers have not been left out. Aside from direct cash support, they have also benefited immensely from the fertilizer distribution initiative championed by the Senator.

His employment facilitation through his aides has also opened doors for Ndokwa sons and daughters in the police, army, and other federal agencies.

Perhaps one of the most far reaching contributions is his bill for the establishment of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kwale, a move that has already gained considerable traction and, if actualized, will position Ndokwa as a strategic hub for military training, and national security development.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s record in Ndokwa/Ukwuani is therefore not a matter of promises or wishful thinking. It is a matter of evidence, actions, and results.
