In sustaining best accounting practice,Accountants in the Delta State Unified Local Government have been trained on efficiency in keeping accounting records.

The Chairman Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Joseph Otirhue, while delivering his address during the Opening Ceremony of a Two Day Workshop in Asaba, the state capital

He said the workshop with the theme, “Keeping /Balancing The Books Of Account, Bank Reconciliation And Preparation of Annual Financial Statement In the Unified Local Government of Delta State” was aptly as it would help them conceive structure that would strengthen the system and increase probity and accountability in governance.

Otirhue said with the tremendous increase in the allocation of FAAC to Local Governments have increased following the removal of fuel subsidy, there is need for a systemic financial records and accounting to guarantee efficient utilization of fund in the Local Governments.

According to the Chairman, the workshop organised for Accountants serving in Delta North Senatorial District , was in line with the roles of the Commission in placing a high premium on the training and retraining of staff of the Unified Local Government Service.

He added that the Commission would ensure that it keeps faith with its mandate of building an effective workforce to meet with the expected objectives of the third tier of government which will help the grassroot feel the positive impact of good governance.

“I have maintained in the past that this Commission is committed to providing the best training for staff of the Service within the limit of our resources, we shall ensure that our staff are equipped with modern tools and knowledge to compete in a world that is increasingly becoming a global village”, the Chairman said.

Speaking, the Assistant Director of Finance, Mr Edah Clifford, advised the participants to be critical in accounting and seek knowledge so as to achieve good results in their career.

Highlight of the workshop was paper presentation on Local Government finance: documentation and proper recording by Mr Okogor Kingsley.
