Delta State Coordinator, NYSC Delta State, Mr. John Vandi Kwaghe, has revealed that a total of 2,159 prospective Corps Members, had been duly registered in the camp.
Kwaghe made this known during the opening /Swearing-In ceremony of the 2024 batch ‘C’ stream II orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Issele-Uku, Delta State.
He said the Corp members comprises of 993 males 1,166 females.
The State Cordinator said the Corp members would undergo regimented training, designed to instill leadership values, humility, perseverance, discipline, endurance, and the ability to coexist harmoniously with others, irrespective of their ethnic, religious, or social backgrounds.
He commended the governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering commitment to the NYSC, which he said has contributed to the success of the scheme in the state.
While speaking on some of the challenges encounter by the NYSC in the state, such as the absence of a dedicated NYSC State Secretariat to, lack of utility vehicles for the effective inspection of Corps Members across the state, the need for an official vehicle for the State Coordinator, urgent requirement for an ambulance to support our Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme and other emergency purposes, amongst others, he called for the intervention of the Governor in overcoming the challenges.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari assured the Corps members of his administration’s commitment towards creating an enabling environment that will foster progress in the scheme.
He said their security and welfare would be prioritized.
The governor said the NYSC since its establishment has contributed to nation building, through it’s impact on the Corps members.
He advised them to show commitment to the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme while in camp, so as help reduce the challenges of unemployment in the country.
The Secretary to the state government and Chairman of the state NYSC Governing Board, Dr Kingsley who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Cabinet and Administration, Mr Henry Onyeukwu urged them to take advantage of the skills acquisition programmes as it will help them even after their service year.
