… Says gov’t engaging relevant stakeholders to boost enlistment
Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured the Nigerian Army of the state’s commitment to fully utilise its allocated quota in the ongoing 91 Regular Recruits Intake (RRI), which commenced on March 30.
The governor gave this assurance on Thursday while receiving a recruitment sensitisation team from Army Headquarters in Asaba, led by Brigadier General Moses Ikoba. He emphasised that the state government remains proactive in mobilising eligible youths to participate in the exercise.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, the governor noted that Delta had constituted a dedicated committee tasked with sensitising young people across the state on the benefits and opportunities available in the military, paramilitary, and other security agencies.
He further disclosed that the government is actively engaging traditional rulers, local government council chairmen, and youth groups to boost awareness and encourage enlistment. According to him, lessons learned from previous recruitment exercises are being applied to address existing gaps and improve participation.
Governor Oborevwori also directed the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment, alongside the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, to intensify media campaigns and grassroots sensitisation efforts across all 25 local government areas.
The goal, he said, is to ensure widespread awareness and increased turnout for the ongoing recruitment exercise and future enlistments, while thanking the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for sending the Army sensitization team to Delta State.
Earlier, Brigadier General Ikoba explained that the delegation’s visit was to underscore the importance of the recruitment exercise and to seek the state government’s support in achieving its quota.
He disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff had called for more aggressive and result-oriented sensitisation strategies nationwide to boost enlistment figures.
Ikobah urged eligible youth in the state to apply for the 91 RRI online, free of charge at: (https://recruitment.army.mil.ng), adding that the minimum entry qualification is four (4) passes, emphasizing on the opportunities available for recruits to continue their education up to any higher level, while serving in the Nigerian Army.
The army officer commended Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to maintaining peace and security in Delta State, noting that the administration’s efforts align with its broader development agenda.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a souvenir to the governor in recognition of his contributions to peacebuilding and national security.
Following the meeting, Brigadier General Ikoba and his team proceeded to Okpanam and Igbuzor communities, where they paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers and engaged local youths on the benefits of joining the Nigerian Army.
