Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment towards sanitising the state of drug addicts.

The Director General of the State Orientation, Barr. Latimore Oghenesivbe made known during the official flag off of the Drug free Delta in Asaba.

He said in making the state free from drugs the state government has through it’s 1empowerment programmes engaged the youths.

He said with the approval of the test kits for intending students of tertiary institution, the state will be free of drug users,

According to him, those who abuse drugs will be meant to face the law will the under aged persons would be sent to rehabilitation centres.

Oghenesivbe said the governor, Rt. Hon, Sherrif Oborevwori has promised to set up the kwale Rehabilitation Centres and will they are there, they will be introduced to skills that will make them become useful when they are out of the centre.

The state commander of NDLEA, Barr. Abubakar Wada described the introduction of testing kit to higher institution as a proactive approach towards combating the high rate of crime in the society.

Wada said it will help detect users of drugs before admitting them into schools in the state and also provide counseling for the drug users.

According to him the agency has arrested many drug addicts and charged them to court and will not relent in fishing them out.

Speaking on the rehabilitation of the drug users, the state commander of the drug law enforcement agency said, it is has been on, however they were faced with the challenge of a standard facility which he said was still under construction.

He said the command has limited bed space for five drug addicts, adding that they were making effort to equip the house facility in Agbor, which can accommodate up to 60 persons.

Speaking on their lessons from the event, Miss Omayeka Chioma Miracle of Government Model Secondary School, GRA, Asaba, said the programme has exposed her to the importance of drugs, the effect of using hard drugs, she said she would take the advocacy to her schools and those who abuses drugs.

Other participants who spoke with The Hill Nigeria Media promise to convince some of their friends who were into drug.
