- Chairman, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Abuja Chapter, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu has frowned at the activities of quack veterinarians.
Ogbu made this known while speaking with journalists in Abuja during the World Veterinary Day.
Ogbu said their action had left animal products unwholesome, thereby putting the lives of consumers of such animals at risk.
According to him, quacks in the veterinary practice were responsible for the transmission of animal to human disease.
He added that majority of the diseases in humans can be traced to animals and that Nigeria lacked sufficient veterinarians and facilities to track such zoonotic diseases.
The Chairman said there was need for the intervention of government to help ensure that quacks were removed from the professional body.
In another development the Delta State Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Charles Diai decried the level of damages done to human health as a result of abuse of antibiotics by quacks.
He said that with the newly constituted Committee on Private Premises Veterinary Regulationt by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, it will lead to an end to quackery in the profession.
