The Leader of the Legislative Arm of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Michael Okonji, has assured residents of a thorough and people-focused review of the proposed ₦14.8 billion 2026 budget presented by the Chairman, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili.

Speaking shortly after the presentation of the draft estimate tagged “Budget of Infrastructure and Human Capital Development,” Okonji commended the Chairman for the timely submission of the proposal, describing it as a strong demonstration of transparency, fiscal responsibility, and respect for due legislative process.

According to the Legislative Leader, the budget represents more than projected figures; it reflects a clear policy direction and developmental roadmap for Oshimili South in the coming year. He emphasized that the House would subject the proposal to detailed scrutiny and constructive debate to ensure it aligns with the aspirations and welfare of the people.

Okonji particularly noted the budget’s emphasis on critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and social welfare. He stated that these focus areas, if properly implemented, have the potential to drive sustainable grassroots development, stimulate economic activities, and improve living standards across communities.

Reaffirming the constitutional oversight role of the Legislature, the Leader stressed that the House remains committed to accountability, transparency, and prudent appropriation of public funds. He assured residents that every component of the estimate would be carefully examined to guarantee value for money and equitable distribution of resources.

Earlier, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili had presented the ₦14,846,392,701.60 draft estimate, outlining allocations of ₦4.72 billion for Social Services/Capital Expenditure, ₦472.13 million for other capital projects, ₦529.14 million for loan repayment, and ₦9.12 billion for recurrent expenditure.

The Chairman explained that the proposal prioritizes infrastructure renewal, youth and women empowerment, enhanced security collaboration, sanitation improvement, and expansion of primary healthcare services. He also highlighted ongoing projects, including the near-completion of a new administrative block, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to development.
However, in his response, Okonji underscored that while the Executive has outlined an ambitious plan, the Legislature will ensure that implementation remains people-centered and result-driven.

He reaffirmed the House’s readiness to work harmoniously with the Executive arm, noting that sustained synergy between both arms of government has been instrumental in achieving past milestones.
He concluded by pledging full legislative cooperation to facilitate the smooth passage and effective implementation of the 2026 budget, assuring residents that the Assembly will remain steadfast in its duty to protect the public interest and promote the overall development of Oshimili South.
