Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Dcn. Joseph Otirhue has harped on the need to improve the health care system to meet with the demand of time.
Otirhue made this known during the opening ceremony of the two day workshop seminar in collaboration with Desnavick Resources Enterprise for environmental health officers, nurses and chews serving in Delta North senatorial district at Olorogun Felix Ibru Secretariat hall in Asaba, Delta State.
He said it would help them keep up with modern updates in hygiene and environmental cleanliness to mitigate the scourge of deadly diseases.
The Chairman said the health care givers ought to learn about safe handling of infected patients and disposal of contaminants in their clinics to avert aiding the further spread of infectious diseases, hence the need for the training on “emerging environmental health risks: issues and challenges in the 21st century”.
Otirhue highlighted the risks and hazards facing the society as large scale natural disasters human environment interaction which has given rise to widespread environment changes, adding that it has impacted negatively on the health sector leading to widespread pandemic as well as unwarranted death to many using the case of COVID-19 pandemic and the current outbreak of monkey pox in about 27 states of the federation as example.
Otirhue said training tends to produce a roadmap that would add value to existing system and structures in each of the twenty five Local Government Areas.
According to the Chairman, the participants through the workshop, would be exposed to emerging and extant policies that will raise the standard of hygiene to levels that would safeguard lives and properties of the citizenry.
