36-year-old, Ekene Chroma, said to be a native of Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, and one Okafor Jonathan, a native of Onicha-Ugbo in Aniocha North LGA of Delta State, both residents at Okpanam, have been arrested for allegedly engaging in gun running.
The duo was nabbed by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team on Friday during a sting operation at Okpanam Area of Asaba.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a signed statement on today.
Edafe stated that upon search, two english single-barrel pistols and 110 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
The PPRO stated that during the preliminary investigation, a search warrant was executed in the suspect’s premises during which a black bag containing a fabricated beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of live ammunition, two locally made guns, and eight rounds of live cartridges were recovered.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has extended his “deepest appreciation to members of the public who have been assisting the police by way of providing the useful information that operatives of the Command work with to record these numerous achievements.”
While noting that the exploits would not have been made possible without the support from members of the public, Abaniwonda called on all other well-meaning residents in the state to “join the police in this fight to achieve a safer Delta State”.
