The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori has received commendations from Primary School Head Teachers across the twenty-five Local Government Areas of the State under the auspices of the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria, for his commitment in promoting quality primary education in the State.
Governor Oborevwori was specifically lauded for his approval for the recruitment of primary school teachers in the twenty-five local government, and palliatives to teachers to cushion the effects of removal of subsidy on PMS.
Chairman of the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Delta State Chapter, Comrade Edward Mesere, gave the commendation when he led members of the association on a courtesy visit on the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere on Tuesday at Asaba, the Delta State Capital.
The AOPSHON chairman who disclosed that primary school teachers in the State were excited and felt relieved at the emergence of Oborevwori as governor, stated that the governor had not disappointed them.
While lauding the recruitment exercise, Comrade Edward commended SUBEB for conducting a thorough screening exercise that saw to the recruitment of only qualified teachers, just as he expressed joy that most of the teachers recruited were deployed to rural schools.
Comrade Edward who described the Chairman of the board as a man of capacity, commended the efforts of the board for posting most of the teachers to rural areas where there was acute shortage of teachers.
Addressing the Head Teachers, executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, assured primary teachers in the State that they would not be left behind, saying that all benefits and entitlements due to teachers would be given to them.
The SUBEB boss who disclosed that the board was working assiduously to clear off backlog of pensions to retirees, gave an assurance that their promotion would be released promptly without any further delay.
While emphasizing on the need for genuine implementation of education policies in the country, Hon. Mariere identified lack of proper supervision as one of the problems facing primary education which he said he was poised to change the narrative.
Hon. Mariere who solicited for the cooperation and support of head teachers in the State to nurture and groom teachers under their supervision with their vast experience and knowledge, harped on the need for mentorship in order to fast track the personal and professional development of teachers (mentees) in the State.
