Chairman, Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Dcn Joseph Otirhue has described retirement as not sentence to poverty and suffering.
Otirhue made this known during a two-day training organised by the Commission in collaboration with Humanserve Consultancy Services on ‘Retirement Planning and Management’ in Asaba, the state capital.
He said it was a call to a deserved rest after putting in several years of meritorious service to the state.
He urged the officers who were close to their retirement from service, to prepare to take their destinies in their hands and forge on irrespective of whether they get their pension on time or not.
The Commission boss said with the training, the participants would be able to garnish whatever experience they might have acquired and be in a better position to move on with their lives.
The resource person, Dr. Mrs. Florence Ofovwe advised them to plan carefully and not to depend on people.
She urged them to commence early submission of their retirement letter so as to get quick access to their benefit.
The participants were educated on the overview of life after service; money management skills for the newly retired; adjusting to retirement; managing and retaining, post retirement health and well being and pre- exit preparation strategies in anticipation of retirement.
