As deliberations continued on Day Two of the Joint Retreat of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the Review of the 1999 Constitution holding in Lagos, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko (Delta North) has once again restated the need for far reaching amendments that will promote fairness, inclusivity, and good governance in Nigeria.

The retreat, which entered its second day on Saturday, October 25, 2025, gathered federal lawmakers, constitutional experts, and key stakeholders to examine proposals aimed at strengthening the country’s constitutional framework. Discussions have so far focused on devolution of powers, state creation, local government autonomy, and electoral reforms.

Senator Ned Nwoko emphasized that constitutional review is not just a legislative routine but an opportunity to correct longstanding structural imbalances that have hindered Nigeria’s growth. He noted that the current review process must reflect the collective aspirations of Nigerians and address issues that have persisted since the return to democracy.
