The parent of a secondary school girl, Mr. Glory Eyimosa, have rejected the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) position on their daughter’s Parents Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, insisting that due process was not followed in the review of her papers..

The WAEC candidate, Alexandra Eyimosa who was a student of Delta Preparatory High School , Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, with examination number 4110218012 was initially recorded as having failed English Language and Economics in the recently released 2025 WASSCE results.

Eyimosa, who scored an A1 in Government , Civic Education and CRS, C5 in Literature in English, C4 in Mathematics said that she was shocked to see D7 in English and E8 in Economics as she believed she wrote very well in the examination.

But on behalf of the candidate parent, the school principal Mr. Daniel Nwacheli had in a letter written and signed by him and addressed to the management of WAEC, called for a review of the student’s result.

“When I saw the first released results before WAEC came out to say they had a glitch in their software system, I was shocked because, Onajite’s result was showing F9 in English Language and E8 in Economics.. I quickly reached out to the Principal. However, in less than 48 hours, WAEC came out with another result, and this time, her English Language score showed D7.

“Through the Principal of the school I wrote a letter to WAEC requesting that they remark my daughter’s English and Economics examination scripts. My daughter had maintained first position in school right from Primary 1 to SSS 3 and it came as a rude shock to us and the school that she scored D7 in English Language”, he said.

Mr. Onajite disclosed to our correspondent that the WAEC headquarter showed no significant interest in the issue for about a month and a week after the submission of the complaint letter for remaking of the examination scripts. The complain letter was rooted through the WAEC office in Asaba.

However, the WAEC candidate parent, Mr. Onaijite alleged that they were not carried along in the review process and have refused to accept WAEC’s mandate that their daughter scored D7 in English and E8 in Economics.

“We were never informed of how the review was conducted. WAEC only came out with a general statement that the result has been reviewed and remains unchanged.

“But the question is: how was the review done without payment made for the review? I know that to review a WAEC results for remarking, a certain amount of fee needs to be paid through the school to WAEC. This was not the case.

“This is why we are calling on WAEC to properly remark her scripts before admission process starts by mid October so that she does not lose her chances of being admitted into her chosen school this year”, said Mr. Onajite.

The Principal of Delta Preparatory High School, Mr. Daniel Nwacheli in an interview with the Nation when contacted said that there is no way his candidate, Eyimosa Alexandra Onajite could have scored F9 in the first released WAEC result and D7 in the reviewed result.

According to him, Eyimosa was there best students right from Primary 1 and always represented the school in debates and quiz competitions.

“Eyimosa was the school senior prefect in 2024/2025 session because of her outstanding grades and performance since she was enrolled in our school. She has always taken the first position from primary 1 to SS3.

“So this has come as a big disappointment to us that WAEC could make such a mistake that has the chances of denying our outstanding student admission into her higher institution of choice.

“I wrote a letter to WAEC for review of her results through remarking, but I must say that due process was not taken and we cannot not accept their decision that D7 was what she scored when a proper review was not done. We were not even asked to pay for the review so how did they come about such a decision?”, Mr. Nwacheli queried.

In a letter addressed to the school principal by WAEC through the Head of National Office Dr. Amos . J. Dangut and signed by the AG. Head of School Examination Department, A.A. Adebisi said that they had reviewed the result of the candidate and it remained unchanged.
