Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, Agbateyiniro Isaac Weyinmi has commended the governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for giving out political appointments to younger individuals who are entrusted with greater responsibilities, adding that he has been able, ito close the gap between different age groups within our society.
Agbateyiniro gave the commendation during the 2023 African Youth Day at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
According to him, “we have witnessed gradual integration of youths into all aspects of State affairs under his leadership”.
He added that the youths have been at the center when it comes to most administrative policies and programs under the M.O.R.E Agenda program.
While assuring Deltans of continous mentoring of youths so as to unlock their developmental potential by mainstreaming them using right keys provided by the Ministry, he said they would be fully committed towards supporting the peaceful development of the youths along with growth across economy levels via various available programs.
Highlighting the achievement of the ministry during the Oborevwori’s administration period, he said efforts are being made consistently towards equipping youngsters with necessary skills and providing requisite support so they can become self-reliant entrepreneurs thereby taking full advantage offered by M.O.R.E Agenda program opportunities.
Speaking on the theme of the year, the Commissioner said it was essential for a successful, equitable and stronger youth movement that transcends borders.
He added that it would strengthen youth participation and partnerships while also promoting intercultural exchange and understanding amongst them.
On her part, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Ms Ngozi Mogbolu charged the youths not to be bound by geographical borders and traditional constraints, but must work together to create solutions and will enhance the quality of life of our youth, while mdividually and collectively seeking avenues to give back to our communities in our own little ways
Mogbolu said the year’s celebration with the theme One Million Next Level is Knocking Youth Led Movement that Transcends Borders” was significant in many ways as it, is the first time the African Youth day was going to be ceistrated under the tenure of the present administration of the youth loving Governor, Oborevwori whose MORE development agenda holds exceptional great potential to take the youths to the desired next level and to build a brighter future for young people across the state.
Expressing delight, she said the event gives them the platform to launch the first ever State Youth Policy christened the MORE-YD E’ series, a policy thrust of the Ministry which is capture in the following seven thematic areas engagement estucation, entrepreneurship, employability, exchange and collaboration. entertainment as well as masing of crimes and social vices We are optimistic that this event will amplify the voices for action and chart a new course as we unveil the draft State Youth Policy Document (2023-2027)
The state governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Power and Energy, Engr Ehiwarior Jerry, urged youths in the state to be part of the movement that seeks to break new grounds, develop programmes that inspire quicker and better ways of doing things.
He advised them to be at the forefront of innovators, adding that the intelligence and work of youths will move any society along the paths of sustainable development and transcendental success.
He said youths were an integral part of the M.O.R.E Agenda in his administration. “We cannot make meaningful progress without leaning on developing the intellect and general talents of youths in the State”.
“I urge you to widen your thought processes and think outside the box as white-collar jobs are not and will not be enough to go around” , he said.
