The All Progressives Congress has announced Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The chairman of the party’s governorship primary election committee and returning officer, Bitrus Kwamoti, declared the result on Thursday at the APC Secretariat in Port Harcourt after collating votes from the 23 local government areas of the state.

Kwamoti said Chinda, who emerged as the sole aspirant in the primary election, secured a total of 268,497 votes. He added that the candidate satisfied the requirements of the party’s constitution and guidelines and was therefore declared winner of the primary and the APC governorship candidate for the state.

The primary election attracted attention due to the lingering political tension in Rivers State and the influence of allies of Nyesom Wike within the party structure.

There had also been speculation surrounding the political future of Governor Siminalayi Fubara following reports that he withdrew from the APC governorship primary.
