A Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to either charge or release the suspended Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele from detention within one week
The Presiding Judge, Justice Hamza Muazu gave the order after a hearing in the fundamental human rights suit Emefiele filed to challenge his arrest and detention by the Department of State Services.
While ruling that the applicant be released on bail, the Judge directed DSS to charge the applicant to court or release him in not more than a week.
The suspended CBN governor had through his counsel challenged his detention and denial of access to his family and counsel.
Muazu in his ruling observed that detention no matter how short was a breach of fundamental rights as the applicant was entitled to a fair hearing.
