In supporting the vision of the governor for a clean environment in Delta State, Commissioner for Environment, Mr Jamani Tommy Ejiro, has led the sanitation team to Burutu, where he monitored the special environmental sanitation exercise organized by the Local Government Chairman, Hon Chief (Dr) Julius Takeme (JP).
Briefing Newsmen during the exercise, Mr Jamani applauded the council Chairman for keying into the environmental sustainability plans of the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori by organizing a special sanitation exercise to clean the entire community and opening of all blocked drainages for free flow of water to mitigate flood from ravaging the community.
“ Today is not our regular monthly sanitation day, Chief Takeme deemed it fit to organize this sanitation and as you can see, the whole place is neat and if this is sustained, Burutu will become the neatest community in Delta State”, he said.
The Commissioner urged other Local Government Chairmen to emulate Chief Takeme by imbibing the habit of regular sanitation exercise to make the entire state clean and healthy.
On his part, Chief Takeme said that almost 80 percent of communities under Bututu LGA were submerged by water and Burutu as a community is an island surrounded by water and there was need to constantly open all water channels to reduce the issue of flooding within the community.
Expressing joy over the presence of the Commissioner for Environment, he said, his administration will not relent but will continue to do the best they can to ensure the safety and well-being of their people.
Others who were part of the exercise were the Director of Sanitation & Waste Management, Mrs Francisca Atigan, Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Godwin Oro, HOD Environment (Burutu) Oyakemeagbegha Josephine; Councilor, Hon. Pondy Stainless Ebipadewei, amongst others.
