In an effort to provide economic stability and ameliorate the plight of needy persons, the Delta Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) programme has recorded a high rate of 247,000 beneficiaries in its database.

The State Coordinator of the Project, Delta Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) programme, Lady Patience Ogbewe, revealed this to Journalists while playing host to members of the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council at her office in Asaba.

She said the rise in number of beneficiaries was to provide critical financial and social support to vulnerable individuals and businesses across the state.

Lady Ogbewe said it was in line with the governor’s commitment to economic recovery, stability and ensuring that more citizens benefit from targeted interventions designed to mitigate the impact of economic hardship.

According to her the number of direct beneficiaries increased from 36,353 to 110,841 and currently stands at 247,000 within a ten-month period in the year 2024.

The state Cordinator of D-CARES commended the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his pivotal role in facilitating the smooth implementation of the programme.

She also expressed her gratitude to the members of her team and the Chairman, D- CARES Steering Committee and Hon. Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, for their commitment and cooperation on the project,

Ogbewe described passion and total commitment as her driving force towards making the project a success, as she is always fulfilled whenever lives are touched through the project.

Earlier, the Chairman of ICC, Comrade Kenneth Orusi, in his speech commended the State Cordinator and management team of D-CARES for reaching out to vulnerable persons at the grass root.

He also appreciated the Communication Officer, Comrade Kenneth Obieh, bridging the gap between the media and D-CARES and for ensuring transparency and open communication.

The Chairman appealed for incorporation of members of his Chapel into the programmes of D-CARES.

“Many of us are not just journalists but also small business owners striving to contribute to economic growth. The recent empowerment initiatives are commendable, but we hope to see more inclusivity in future distributions”, he said.

He also appreciated the state government for maintaining the integrity of this initiative, ensuring that it serves the people without political interference.
