The Delta State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) joined the global celebration of World Public Relations Day 2025 with a high-level engagement held at the Professor Chike Edozien Secretariat, Asaba, Delta State.
With the theme “Building Bridges and Navigating Polarisation: The Power of PR in Governance and Nation-Building,” the event underscored the critical role of ethical and strategic communication in uniting a divided society and promoting accountable governance.
In his welcome address, Mr. Godfrey C. Osakwe,fnipr, Delta State Chairman, NIPR highlighted PR as a vital tool for fostering transparency, trust, and public participation. The event featured a robust panel session anchored by Ese Obote-Ogwu and Joyce Ochei, with expert contributions from, Dr. Joy Erure Anho, Deputy Rector, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Dr. Collins Kediehor, Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Dr. Fidelis Nwadike, HOD Mass Communication, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Dr. Harvey Egben, former HOD, Delta State University DELSU, Abraka,
Mr. Sunny Ofou, Executive Assistant on New Media to the Governor of Delta State and Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, PRO, NIPR Delta Chapter/ Director General, Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau.
Speakers emphasised PR’s role in combating misinformation, managing crises, and promoting responsible leadership through truthful storytelling and digital engagement.
They called for stronger collaboration between government and communication professionals to deepen democratic values and national development.
An interactive Question & Answer session enriched the experience, especially for participating students from Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Youth Corp Members, and young professionals.
Mr. Larry Mogbeyiteren delivered the vote of thanks, applauding the vibrant turnout and urging continuous advocacy for ethical PR practice.
The event was a strong statement on the enduring relevance of public relations in shaping a more informed, inclusive, and united Nigeria.
