Young people from across Delta State converged at Bistro 23, Asaba, on Friday June 12 for the maiden edition of the M.O.R.E Democracy Hangout 2026, a vibrant youth engagement and entertainment event organized by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development in collaboration with Delta State Ministry Of Youth Development and Neodon Innovations Ltd.
The event, held to commemorate Nigeria’s 27th Democracy Day, brought together youths, professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, and community stakeholders for an evening of networking, civic engagement, talent discovery, and entertainment.
Speaking during the event, youth development champion and Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Amb. Onyedikachi Micheal Odogwu, emphasized the importance of youth participation in democratic processes and nation-building. He noted that democracy thrives when young people actively contribute to governance, leadership, innovation, and community development.
According to him, the M.O.R.E Democracy Hangout was designed to create a platform where young people can connect, exchange ideas, showcase their talents, and explore opportunities for personal and professional growth while celebrating the gains of democracy.
Amb. Odogwu also commended the administration of the Governor of Delta State, *Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori* for its continued commitment to youth development through strategic investments in skills acquisition, youth inclusion, education, and empowerment initiatives under the M.O.R.E Agenda.
A major highlight of the event was the interactive roundtable discussion themed “Gen Z, Democracy and the Future: Are We Ready to Lead?” Participants shared perspectives on youth leadership, civic responsibility, entrepreneurship, and the role of young people in shaping the future of Nigeria.
The programme also featured exciting karaoke competitions, talent showcases, games, networking sessions, and prize presentations, creating a lively atmosphere that encouraged participation and social interaction among attendees.
Special recognition were accorded to Mr. Charles Omordiah, Chief Executive Officer of Schoolville Limited, whose presence as a Special Guest added immense value to the event.
Amb Onyedikachi Micheal Odogwu also lauded the father of the day,Immediate Past Vice Chancellor Delta State University Abraka, Prof Andy Egwunyenga whose commitment to education, youth empowerment, and human capital development is inspiring and worth emulating describing him as a rare gem,worthy father and leader who continues to advance the cause and welfare of young people and humanity.
Various Participants including Special Assistant to the Oshimili North L.G.A on legislative matters Comr Praise Onyekachi expressed appreciation to the Special Assistant for creating an innovative platform that combined civic education with entertainment, describing the event as both impactful and inspiring.
The successful hosting of the maiden M.O.R.E Democracy Hangout has further reinforced the commitment of Amb Onyedikachi Odogwu to promoting youth engagement, leadership development, and positive social participation across Delta State.
The event concluded with presentations to outstanding participants, networking opportunities, and a renewed call for young people to get their permanent voters card (PVC)remaining active contributors to the democratic and developmental aspirations of Delta State and Nigeria.
