Four people lost their lives in a terrorist attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) facility at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State.
The victims included a local watchman and three contractors working at the site.
In a statement on Sunday, NIS spokesperson Kenneth Udo revealed that the attack occurred on Friday evening around 7:20 p.m., causing significant damage to the facility’s security infrastructure. However, no immigration officers were injured in the incident.
The statement read, “The service deeply regrets the recent attack by a suspected terrorist group on our facilities and contractors at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State’s Kangiwa Local Government Area on Friday, January 10, 2025, at about 19:20 hours.
“Four individuals, including a local watchman and three contractors, were killed in the attack, which also resulted in extensive damage to our security installations. Thankfully, no immigration officers were harmed.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. The service is working closely with sister agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of these heinous acts and ensure justice is served.
“The service remains committed and undeterred in fulfilling its mandate of border security to safeguard the nation.”
