Residents of Igala extraction in Ward 11, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, have demonstrated renewed commitment to the democratic process with a massive turnout for the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration exercise, while declaring their readiness to support candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The registration exercise, held at Cable Point, Asaba, attracted a large number of men, women and youths from the Igala community who turned out to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards. Participants described the exercise as a crucial step toward ensuring that every eligible voter is equipped to participate in the election of leaders at the presidential, governorship, National Assembly, State House of Assembly and other elective levels.
Speaking during the exercise, members of the community noted that the Permanent Voter Card represents more than a document for casting votes. According to them, it is a vital instrument for safeguarding their political rights, promoting inclusiveness and strengthening the voice of the non-indigene community in governance and the overall development of Oshimili South Local Government Area.
Political leaders of the Igala community, including Mr. Jude Bamigwojor, said the impressive turnout reflected the determination of community members to contribute meaningfully to the political growth and democratic advancement of Delta State. They stressed that sustained mobilisation of eligible residents for voter registration would further deepen democracy and encourage greater civic participation in future elections.
The leaders commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for what they described as his commitment to promoting the inclusion of the Igala community in the political affairs of the state. They maintained that the governor’s leadership has provided opportunities for members of the community to participate more actively in governance and decision-making processes.
They praised Mr. Jude Bamigwojor for his consistent grassroots mobilisation and unwavering commitment to encouraging eligible residents to register for and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards. Community members described his efforts as instrumental to the remarkable success recorded during the ongoing registration exercise.
The Onu of the Igala Community in Asaba, Alhaji Muhammed Yunusa, also received accolades for providing purposeful traditional leadership, promoting peace and unity among members of the community, and working closely with stakeholders to ensure the success of the PVC registration exercise.
They noted that his leadership has strengthened the cordial relationship between the Igala community, the state government and other ethnic groups resident in the area.
The Ward 11 Youth Leader and other community coordinators equally praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership style and commitment to the development of the Igala community in Oshimili South. They reaffirmed their resolve to continue mobilising eligible voters and pledged their support for the All Progressives Congress and its candidates in the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that active participation in the electoral process remains the surest path to inclusive governance and sustainable development.
