2023: With PDP Nigerians’ll Not Be Hungry – Okowa

Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa has urged Nigerians to vote Atiku Abubakar and all PDP candidates in the 2023 elections to ensure that prevailing hunger, poverty and insecurity in the country were eliminated.
Okowa made the call on Thursday at the party’s campaign at Oshimili North and Oshimili South Local Government Areas of the state, and said that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government had taken Nigerians many years backwards with its inept administration.
He said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had destroyed the nation’s socio-economic system, including the educational sector where the government allowed university lecturers to be on strike for eight months.
According to him, because God sanctioned my nomination for Vice-Presidency and put me on the PDP presidential ticket, He has finished the work for us.
“Aside the fact that PDP gave us the Vice-Presidential ticket which we have not seen since the creation of Delta and even Bendel, we need to work hard to justify that confidence reposed in us.
“In 2019, Delta produced the highest votes for the PDP in South-South and this time that we have been given Vice Presidential ticket, it is our duty to double the votes because the APC has spoilt Nigeria with hunger, insecurity, disunity, ASUU strike and that’s not what we want as a country.
“The APC has no human face, they are angry that we are empowering our youths and women with skills to enable them own their businesses and become employers of labour.
“If God put you in position of authority you need to lead with a human face and that is why Atiku-Okowa ticket will bring Nigerians out of hunger and poverty,” he said.
On the governorship election, Okowa said that the party was supporting Sherrif Oborevwori and Monday Onyeme because they were politicians with worthy characters.
“We have been uniting Delta by working everywhere in unity and as I am leaving, an Urhobo man is coming and I know that he has common sense and he is very humble.
“I have known Sheriff Oborevwori for over 21 years and God has been very helpful to him to have become the longest serving Speaker in the history of our state.
“We will pepper APC with our votes and we will elect all candidates of the PDP to continue our youth empowerment programmes.
“I thought that as we are empowering the people, the APC will appreciate us but they are complaining, and no wonder they are using hunger to kill our people,” he added.
He accused the Deputy President of the Senate and APC Governorship Candidate in the state for lying to Deltans that his administration didn’t do anything in Asaba.
“Sometime ago, the APC governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, came to Asaba and tried to deceive our people that we didn’t do anything in Asaba.
“When I heard his lies I began to wonder whether he was referring to the same Asaba that we built roads, a modern State Secretariat , Dennis Osadebay University, Leisure Park, Film Village and Zoo.
“Need we talk about the Flyover and Interchange at Koka Junction? But I am particularly happy about the storm drainage project which has deflooded Asaba and environs.
“As we have done in Asaba so we are replicating it in Warri, Effurun and environs and so we have decided as a party to support a grassroots politician, an amiable and humble personality in Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to continue from where we will stop.”
The Governorship Candidate, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, on his part, said he had learnt a lot from Governor Okowa, and assured that he would deploy the experience garnered over the years to bear in the administration of the state.
“In politics there is time and seasons and the past seven and half years have been very awesome because I went through the Okowa political school.
“Those that knew me before 2015 and now know the difference, I have learnt to be more humble and I have also learnt how to listen more and that’s how I was able to lead the assembly successfully in the last 6 years.
“Many people have passed through this school and I have passed through it successfully and I have been given a certificate to take over the mantle of leadership of this state.
“I will consolidate on what Okowa has done with my MORE Agenda and I can assure you that I will not disappoint Deltans with the confidence reposed in me. I want to assure you that I will keep to my MORE Agenda because it is my covenant with Deltans,” Oborevwori stated.
He commended the Anioma nation for supporting Delta Central for the governorship ticket and assured that he would not disappoint Deltans.
State Chairman of the party, Chief Kingsley Esiso, said he was happy that the people of Oshimili North and Oshimili South were totally committed to the liberation of Nigerians from the shackles of poverty and insecurity created by the APC-led administration.
“I am happy and convinced because from the crowd here today there is no other political party in this local government.
“I am happy because the people of this local government have rejected the APC with their hunger, poverty and insecurity and this time around the PDP is on a mission to reset and rebuild Nigeria.
“APC came with their lies and propaganda and destroyed Nigeria and by the grace of God and by your support APC will never happen to Nigeria again.
“Nigerians have decided to join the rescue train of the PDP with Atiku Abubakar as the Chief Driver and Deltans are particularly happy with the ticket because since the creation of Nigeria nobody from the state has ever been selected to be Presidential running mate.
“But our own performing Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta will produce the next Vice-President.
“Having destroyed our economy, security and social life, the APC is bringing a sick man to come and cure a sick country, we will not allow them,” Esiso stated.
Director-General of the State Campaign Council, Chief Funkekeme Solomon urged Nigerians to reject the APC at all levels adding that the APC had so deceived our people and rubbished the work done by the PDP over time.
At Akwukwu-Igbo, a former chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Mr John Azike, and no fewer than 100 members of the party, defected to the PDP.
Azulike, who addressed the mammoth crowd, said he was joining the PDP alongside his supporters to support Governor Okowa who “is a Vice-President in waiting.
“We are also supporting the PDP because of the incoming Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who has presided over the state Assembly for years without any crisis,” he stated.

6th Edition: June Odika Presents Christmas Gifts To Widows In Issele-Uku And Onicha-Ugbo

… Receives Agbogidi Obi Nduka’s Royal Prayers

By Patrick Ochei

Issele-Uku Royal Palace once again for the sixth time, was a beehive of activities as no less than a thousand widows from Issele-Uku and Onicha-Ugbo communities of Aniocha North LGA, gathered to receive their yearly Christmas packages from a renowned Lagos and UK based Evangelist June Odika.

Every 24th December, Evangelist Odika would gather widows in Issele-Uku for empowerment through her foundation – June Vision.

This year’s edition being the sixth, was different as she reached out to widows in Onicha-Ugbo to be part of the programme while hoping to include Issele-Mkpitime in the list by next year.

As usual, it started with prayers and then praise and worship, followed by a word of exhortation by Pastor Sunday Ikelede.

Pastor Ikelede had dwelt extensively on forgiveness and love in his preaching, insisting that God can never abandon any widow who genuinely trusts Him and possesses the character of love for her neighbours.

He challenged them to change for good and begin to see the difference in their lives as it concerns their children, welfare and health.

Pleased with the consistency of love being showered annually on widows by Evangelist June Odika through her Widows For Christ Project, the Traditional Ruler of Issele-Uku Kingdom, HRM Agbogidi Obi Nduka prayed for her to continue to break barriers to achieve her desires in life.

Worried by the high cost of commodities in the market, Obi Nduka wondered how she was able to buy and ship the number of bags of rice to go round the widows in Issele-Uku and Onicha-Ugbo respectively at this critical time in the nation’s economic history.

He commended her for her thoughtfulness and patriotism as an illustrious daughter who is inspired to share from the little she has, maintaining that God would replenish her purse and by extension the Odika family for having been of immense support to the brotherly and social development of Issele-Uku.

His words, “I am highly pleased by your act of love and kindness, especially to the vulnerable widows. You have continued to supply them with foodstuffs in the past few years, and in spite of the high cost of food items in the market, you still were able to achieve it this year. I pray God to bless you more and continue to give you the spirit, grace and strength to carry on with your ministry of love and reaching the unreached in times like this.

“We will continue to support your effort in any way you deem necessary. This Palace is always for you to use, because what you are doing is for the good of our people. I am indeed pleased because, not everybody can give like this even when they are richly blessed. But you have the heart and the spirit to touch lives in a unique way, God will always strengthen your paths for success”, Obi Nduka prayed.

In her vote of thanks, the Founder of the June Vision and widows’ benefactor, Evangelist June Odika appreciated God for the gift of life and vision to carry out His divine instructions.

She affirmed that what she is doing was a divine command from our Lord Jesus Christ who is the husband and lover of the widows.

“He sent me what I am doing. Irrespective of the stress and high cost of things, I can never complain because He will always supply all my needs.

“I don’t have much to say but to encourage you to keep holding your monthly meetings with your coordinators. Those meetings are vital because of the spiritual implications and other forms of empowerments that come once in a while.

“In spite of whatever happens, please, continue to dwell among yourselves in love through the sharing of the Word of God and gifts. Love is the greatest of virtues expected of us by our Lord Jesus Christ. When you dwell in love you encourage me, and that is what Jesus Christ wants from us.

“I appreciate my awesome and amiable King who has been supportive since inception of this project. I thank all my guests and to you all my dear Widows For Christ, I love you”, Odika professed.

It was a beautiful day for the widows as each went home with a piece of wrapper, a measure of rice, tomatoes, etc, after corporately praying for their benefactor, Evangelist June Odika.

Present at the event were HRM Agbogidi Obi Nduka, the Obi of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Pastor Ijeoma Herbert Odika, an Aviation Expert, Pastor Sunday Ikelede, Guest Preacher, Pastor Ejimchukwu Nicodemus, the officiating minister, Chief Innocent Ikpeamanam Nwakpati, the Omeogor of Issele-Uku, Comrade Patrick Ochei, NUJ Delta State Council’s Secretary, Mrs. Ijeoma Odika and others too numerous to mention.

2023: Atiku’ll Implement PIA Host Community Fund Provision – Okowa

Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, said the Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would ensure that Petroleum Industry Act was enforced, including provision on host communities’ fund, if elected.

He said that so much fund was needed for the development of oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta, and assured that when elected, Atiku-Okowa administration would change the poor conditions in the oil-bearing area through full implementation of the Act.

Okowa made the promise at PDP’s Governorship Campaign Flag-off in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas, on Thursday, and said that Deltans were privileged to have one of their own selected to become Vice-President in the next dispensation.

He, therefore, urged all Deltans to rise and collectively support PDP, saying “we must work hard to ensure victory for the party”.

According to him, Atiku-Okowa ticket will take care of some of the teething problems facing the nation and we have resolved to ensure that our people are taken care of, particularly the oil bearing communities.

“There is a provision in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA),
that is the Host Communities Fund and we will ensure its full implementation for the benefit of the oil-bearing communities”.

On how the party intends to tackle insecurity in the country, Okowa said that Atiku Abubakar would engage relevant stakeholders to ensure constitutional amendment to legalise State Police.

“We have observed that the Federal Police is grossly inadequate to secure Nigerians and therefore, we are advocating the establishment of State Police to enable every state have its own police to handle peculiar security challenges.

“Aside the State Police, we will recruit more hands into Federal Police, procure more weapons and provide adequate logistics and intelligence gathering devices for effective policing,” he said.

Okowa announced that renovation of Warri Township Stadium would begin shortly, and disclosed that contract for the project worth N2.9 billion had been awarded earlier.

He said the renovation would include the changing of the tartan tracks, all the chairs as well as internal drainages within the stadium.

“We did not commence the renovation earlier because of the storm drainages we are constructing in Warri, but now that we have done over 70 per cent of the storm drainage project, we are about to start the Warri Stadium project.

“We will do a comprehensive renovation of the stadium and I thank you all for your patience and understanding over the years.

“After completion of the drainage, we will start construction of the roads to enable them last longer,” Okowa said.

Governorship Candidate of the party in the state, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, said Warri and Uvwie people were happy and anxiously waiting to have him, a “Warri boy”, as governor.

He assured that the development of the twin cities would receive massive boost if elected, stressing that the Uvwie, Okpe and Sapele Federal Constituency was grateful to Governor Okowa for ensuring that the area produced the next governor of the state.

“They have told me that among all the candidates, I am the only proper ‘Warri boy’. They are happy that the PDP selected one of their own to be governor.

“I am glad with the crowd here today and I can assure you that when we come into office, with the power of God and by your support, we will revive infrastructure in the twin cities of Warri, Effurun and environs,” Oborevwori stated.

State Chairman of the party, Chief Kingsley Esiso, said that Deltans had since resolved not to vote a clannish man who would appropriate everything to his village.

According to him, the people have said that they would support a bridge-builder like Sheriff Oborevwori who was known and loved by all Deltans.

He announced that the Presidential Campaign train would come to Asaba on January 24, 2023 and urged the people to turn out enmasse to welcome the Presidential candidate and his entourage.
