Ezenyili Eulogizes Onyeobi, To Immortalise His Name With Oshimili South Legislative Complex

By Patrick Ochei

The young and dynamic Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Hon. Kelvin Obi Ezenyili has eulogized the sterling leadership qualities and impeccable personality of the Iyase of Asaba Kingdom, Obi Patrick Isioma Goodluck Onyeobi, describing him as his mentor and role model.

He made this assertion while paying homage to the Iyase during his 2022 New Yam Festival (Iwaji) celebration on Thursday 22nd September, 2022, at the Iyase’s Ancestral home at Ogwa Idumuojei in Umuezei Quarters of Asaba.

The Chairman said people might not know how he got into office as the Oshimili South Council Administrator, stating that it was the making of Iyase Onyeobi.

His words, “It is a humbling pleasure on my person to identify with the Iyase of Asaba. We are not just here because of his new yam festival celebration, we are here because this is what we want to always do – identifying with him.

“Obi Onyeobi is more than a father to me. He played much role in my emergence as Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government. As long as we continue to be in office and even beyond, we will always pay our loyalty to him.

“I am exceedingly grateful to God for having such a well endowed community leader on my side. Iyase Onyeobi remains a fountain of knowledge, wisdom and intellectual prowess to always draw from, and no matter his age, he has continued to play key role in brightening our administration. He was an administrator par excellence and that is why we will not stop praying to God to grant him many more years of productivity for the good of humanity.

“On this note sir, I have come to inform you that our administration recently embarked on the construction of the Oshimili South Legislative Complex. That building is 85 percent at completion stage. When completed, we shall invite the Governor of our dear State and incoming Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to commission it. This edifice will be named after you sir, Obi Patrick Isioma Goodluck Onyeobi as our token of honour for all you have done and stand for in Oshimili South and the entire human race. Obi Igwe!

“In a nutshell, I want to appeal for the continual support of Asaba people and Oshimili South in general to the PDP. Let us do it 5/5 this time in our collective quest to rescue Nigeria. And of course, with our son as Vice President, we should be rest assured of a better Nigeria going forward”, Ezenyili submitted.

In his response, the Iyase said he was surprised to receive such cheering news from a working Chairman.

He stated that he would live to remember this particular edition of his Iwaji celebration, appreciating Ezenyili for honouring him on his moment of joy as a traditional leader and also proposing to immortalise him.

According to him, “I am surprised at how highly this young man, assessed to have done so well thought about me. I am not a politician; I was only a professional civil servant who was taught how to dispense leadership that brings peace and development to the people. We were taught that there is no price greater than the price for peace. The Chairman has done extremely well and we must continue to support him.

“I just do what I need to do as an individual. This has shown me that people see the good works of others. And except a man dies, his goodwill continues to live on.

“Our Chairman has proven to be a true son of Anioma Nation; we must as a people keep record of such virtues and quality of humans around us. I once again appreciate him for honouring me on my Iwaji. This is a celebration of Asaba people as an agrarian community reputed for farming as their major industry. And yam as their revered staple food is the symbol of Thanksgiving to God and Ancestors for a productive farming season, while also using the period to pray for better farming seasons in future.

“The Asagba of Asaba having done his own Iwaji, the Obis then followed. I am currently an Obi, also an Iyase having first been installed as a chief and presently, I hold the position of Diokpa of Idumuojei Village in Umuezei Quarters of Asaba. So in my case, I now combine the three celebrations to have one Iwaji celebration. It’s a period of peace; Iwaji is used to harness peace and so, when we gather to celebrate the new yam, we are gathering because of the presence of peace in our community. Where people are hungry there can’t be peace. On this note, I urge the government to provide the enabling environment for people to live in peace”, Onyeobi posited.

It was indeed a day of merry making as the men, women and youths gathered in their numbers to celebrate with Obi Onyeobi and there was more than enough to eat and drink. Dignitaries such as Ogbueshi Dada Okonji (Oshimili South PDP Chairman), Mr. Brenban Iyieh (Secretary to Oshimili South Local Government), Mr. Nnamdi Odiwe and others also came in company of Hon. Kelvin Obi Ezenyili to pay homage to the Iyase of Asaba.

Okowa Deplores Poor Services By BEDC

Delta Governor and Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has deplored poor supply of electricity to consumers in the state by Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

Okowa expressed his displeasure over the situation at the official opening of Lumen Christi College, Maryhill, Owanta, Ika North East Local Government Area of the State.

He said that even when residents and communities procured transformers and handed over to BEDC, “they will still charge them to energise it”.

According to the governor, sometimes you install a transformer, the distribution company will ask you to come and pay even when you are handing over that transformer to them.

He regretted that “even when you are ready to pay, they will delay you for six months and even for one year. It’s frustrating.

“Sometimes when we try to help communities, it is difficult because of BEDC’s delay.

“Even, when the transformers are energised and handed back to the distribution company, to get them to energise it, it will look like you are begging them to do so; it ought not to be so,” Okowa stated.

He lauded Rev. Fr. Mario David Dibie, the Proprietor of the school, for his philanthropy and care for the poor and vulnerable in the society.

“While men are busy pushing after fame and ego, here is a man with God’s grace thinking about the very lowly in the society.

“It is a lesson and a story that should change our lives because when you see the life of a man like Fr. Dibie, every part of his story tells about his desire to assist the less-privileged.

“If we have more of him Nigeria would be a better place. He is beginning to build a crop of young ones that will grow up to become responsible adults.

“It is not about the beauty and ambience of your school but about the character you come out with from here will pave way for you in the future.

“Due to the suffering in our nation, things are getting so bad and people are afflicted from the inside because of hardship. People are resorting to kidnapping and banditry because of hardship and it is a time for collective prayer for our nation,” he said.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I congratulate and rejoice with Fr. Dibie for this great feat because he is building a great society for Nigeria by helping to train our children,” Okowa added.

Welcoming guests earlier, Rev. Fr. Dibia said he was always guided by the Biblical injunction to always consider the poor in his dealings.

He disclosed that he had a Covenant with God that 20 per cent of whatever he got would be for his maintenance while 80 per cent would go to the poor.

2023: PDP Ready To Embrace Issue-Based Campaigns – Aniagwu

Spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation, Charles Aniagwu, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was ready to embrace issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Speaking on “Politics Today” on Channels Television on Tuesday night, Aniagwu said the party was prepared to stay on the issues because it was well abreast with the challenges bedeviling the nation.

He said only those who lacked requisite information on the nation’s challenges would resort to insulting opponents.

“It is important for every Nigerian to appreciate the fact that we must remain on the issues that our people are contending with.

“I am happy that our party particularly our presidential candidate has clearly identified what the issues are and it is only those who don’t understand what the issues are that try to bring up propaganda or try to attack individuals.

“As a party we have been able to reel out the issues we are going to deal with. Earlier, I listened to your interview with the Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, and I can see that he was unable to give answers that you needed to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.

“The Presidential Campaign Spokesman said the PDP had identified the issues which are,  the need to revamp the economy, ensure security of lives and property, devolution of power to the different component parts of the country.

“We will be addressing issues of education to the extent that today for over 220 days now our children have been at home because our universities are under lock and key due to ASUU strike.

“We will also talk about the need to manage our diversity because the mismanagement of our diversity has brought us to where we are and which have triggered some other symptomatic issues.

“When you look at these candidates, only Atiku Abubakar has been able to come up with a policy document titled My Covenant with Nigerians.

“He is the only one that is prepared for the job and that is why we are desirous of staying in line with those policy statements that our candidate has been able to put forward,” he stated.

Aniagwu who is also Delta State Commissioner for Information,  said the party would continue to stay on the trajectory of the real issues that agitate the minds of Nigerians.

“For anybody to abandon those issues and begin to attack either fellow candidates who also have constitutional rights to vie for that office means the person is inflicting more injuries on Nigerians whose lives are already battered because of the abysmal performance of the APC-led government in past seven years.

“We will tell you the problem and also how we are going to solve them, we will not take the path of insulting other Nigerians because we recognise the fact that it is also their right to seek for that same office we are seeking,” he said.

On the health of the candidates, Aniagwu said Nigerians can testify that Atiku Abubakar is not challenged health wise to be able to carry out the issues he has put up.

“For us we are very much ready to showcase the identities of those we are putting out to lead the country.

“The PDP will provide solutions to the things the APC failed to do that are bringing more problems to Nigerians.

“Nigerians would prefer to be taken back to the era where they could sleep with both eyes closed, an era when the Naira was more stable and when a bag of rice was affordable,” he stated.

APC Cause Of Poverty, Hunger In Nigeria – Okowa

Governor of Delta and Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, on Saturday said rising hunger and poverty in the country was caused by poor management of the nation’s economy by ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He stated this at an empowerment programme for the people of Ika Federal Constituency by the Member  representing the constituency at the House of Representatives, Mr Victor Nwokolo, at Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North East Local Government Area.

The Governor who was in company with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and PDP Governorship Candidate in the state, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori and State Chairman of  PDP, Chief Kingsley Esiso, commended Nwokolo for his gesture in giving hope to the hopeless, describing the event as “empowerment programme with a difference”

He said that Nigeria was troubled because people were hungry and out of job due to mismanagement of the nation’s economy.

He added that even students were having lots of challenges because their parents could not meet their needs owing to the level of poverty resulting from ineptitude of the APC-led Federal Government.

Okowa, therefore, urged Nigerians to support the PDP, saying it was the only party with clear understanding of the nation’s challenges and had clear solution to rescue the nation.

“The important thing is that we know the issues troubling our nation and we have a clear pathway for rescuing and rebuilding the nation,” hesaid.

He commended Nwokolo for empowerment and noted that it was a show of love to the people and prayed that the beneficiaries would utilise the items and equipment for the common good of the people.

“I also pray that the students who benefitted from this gesture will  study hard and become successful for the good of their families and our people,” he stated.

Earlier, Nwokolo had said that his motive for the empowerment was to restore hope to the hopeless amid rising hunger and poverty in the land.

He commended Governor Okowa for providing leadership and for his efforts in empowering the people through the various entrepreneurial programmes of the state.

Items presented at the ceremony include cars, mini buses, tricycles, cassava processing machines, oil processing mills, block processing equipment, generators, transformers, sewing machines, educational grant and motor cycles.

Issele-Uku: Ine Aho Festival Ends With Ishu Onicha; As Six Palace Chiefs Pay Homage To Obi Nduka

By Patrick Ochei

Six days after Ine Festival,  the Ine Aho Festival finally ends with the Ishu Onicha feast, being the final major public event in the series of activities marking the 2022 annual new yam festival in Issele-Uku.

Agbogidi Obi Nduka once again, emerged from his inner chambers of the Palace, dressed in red royal regalia to receive his Palace Chiefs whose day is the day of Ishu Onicha to pay him homage and receive Royal handshake (Inaka).

First on the line to be led with Olimgba dance to pay his homage was the Osodi of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Chief Sunday Monye. This is the chief whose assignment and responsibility it is to ensure the protection and welfare of the Anasi-Obi (Queen). He hails from Ogboli village and has been around for long, remaining dutiful and diligent in carrying out the traditional functions of the Title of Osodi of Issele-Uku.

The second title holder to move to pay his homage is the Inwengwe of Issele-Uku Kingdom and incidentally, his first time appearance, Chief Victor Egbune. He is saddled with the responsibility of being the Spokesperson of the Palace and being a member of the Royal family (Umueze Issei), he understands the intricacies of Royal duties and rules of engagements within the Palace.

The Ide of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Chief (Barr) Tony Nwabuotu came next in line to pay his homage. A culture loving British lawyer, he represented adequately as a true son of the land. He hails from Umueze Issei Village and renowned for his agility in performing his traditional functions as Ide Oligbo.

The Osoeze-Ebi (one who lives with the king) of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Chief Nwakaife Ezieshi is a prominent figure in the community as a result of his immense love for the culture and traditions of his forebears. He hails from Ogboli Village and has been one of the people who make tradition interesting in town.

The fifth title holder was the Olikeze of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Chief David K. Siunoje, now Canadian based who has done well to prove his mettle and defend the prized title of Olikeze (one who dines and wines like a king). He hails from Ogbe-Ofu Village; the Iga people of Issele-Uku and his father was well known in traditional matters.

The sixth and last in that order of title holders to perform was the Osigie of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Chief Michael Brian Odiakosa. He is a proud Anioma son, based in the United States of America and has done tremendously well in the promotion of Anioma Nation, culture and her people. The title of Osiuge (friend of the Palace) is both honorary and palatial having been recognised as a true friend who has now been bestowed the rights of a family member. He hails from Idumuje-Unor community but has become an illustrious friend turned illustrious son in Issele-Uku Kingdom.

It was time for Obi Issei to perform (Ime Uje) and the entire place was agog. It is always fun to behold an Issele-Uku King take the centre stage of attraction. He was accompanied by the Onotu Chiefs who flanked him in the Uge while the Palace Chiefs joined up from their various canopies outside.

The Omu of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Omu Beatrice Onwodi who also was gallantly dressed in red Omu regalia, was already waiting by the Ishu Ani at the left hand side while the Queen of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Anasi-Obi Chukwudumebi Rosemary Nduka was at the right hand side dancing and cheering up her loving husband.

The Agbogidi immediately proceeded into the Ani Ground with the Isekute, Chi-Obi and Ashi-Obi to offer prayers and sacrifices to the Ancestors while the Omu and other chiefs stood behind him.

At the end, series of gun shots were fired to signify the end of the rites, just as the Obi comes out to pay glowing tributes to his forefathers before moving over to greet the Queen and then danced back to the Palace where he was received by other members of the Royal family led by Prince Chris Akeh and, Okpalabisi led by Ogbelani Diokpa Isimchei Okonkwo.

At the Uge, the Ogbelani greeted the king traditionally with “Osisi” before the commencement of the slaughtering and sharing of a female goat to mark the end of the Ishu Onicha. However, Obi Nduka was led back into his inner Chambers with Egwu Issoh and Opi flute.

The Ishu Onicha officially marks the end of Ine Aho Festival apart from the Eke Obo that will take place on September 18 and Eke Nmo on September 22 which are private prayers to draw a line of finality on all spiritual activities of the Ine Aho Festival.
