Abide By Standard, SON Tells Stakeholders.

Stakeholders in the industrial sector have been enjoined to adhere to applicable standard and quality assurance activities so as to meet with the expectations of their customers.

The Director General of Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Mallam Farouk Salim, who was represented by the Director, Anambra region, Mr Don Pedro  Ebenezer gave the advise during the stakeholders sensitization Forum in Asaba, Delta State.

Salim said adherence would help deliver satisfactory value that would improve on business profitability and enhance competitiveness.

He urged them to adopt standards as a way of life and refuse to patronize fake and substandard product.

The DG said SON, as the apex standardization body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility of formulating and establishing of standards relating to various, products, commodities, processes and materials for the certifying of products in Nigeria Commerce and industry.

He said registration of their product with SON would help promote healthy competition, eliminate substandard product and encourage and encourage made in Nigeria product and services.

According to him the stakeholder workshop organized by South South region was aimed at sensitizing them in propelling, industrial growth and increases the awareness on the role of SON in trade facilitation and enhancing economy.

On his part the Senior Special Assistant to the DG, Chief Emeka Duru said absence of standardaisation would lead unemployment and insecurity.

Duru advised them to always put up standard product for sale so as to grow their economy and safety of the consumers as SON would continue to ensure that the welfare of the economy is protected.

The State Cordinator, Mr O. Olagoroye while addressing stakeholders on the relevance of SON in facilitating trade and enhancing  economy said SON in creating confidence for economic growth through improved access in local and international market helps to enhance business growth, minimize wastes and losses  and helps customers achieve satisfaction.

Olagoroye said with the role played by SON in the nation’s economy, it was expected that they respond proactively and insist on the best standards and quality practice so as to help them overcome the challenges in the nation’s industry.

Speaking, the state Chairman Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialist, Mr Princewill Ojeh said in having a longer life span, every product have to be approved, he advised Deltans not to purchase products without expiration date.

Ojeh suggested that manufacturers of substandard product be encouraged to come to the standardization that is required, adding that they be provided the necessary funds and machineries required to get to that standard.

2022 December Pilgrimage: NCPC Airlifts Taraba, Gombe Pilgrims From Yola Intl Airport

The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC has airlifted about  280 intending Christian Pilgrims of Taraba and Gombe state  from the Yola International Airport on 26 December, 2022 to Israel and Jordan.

The Executive Secretary Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission ,Rev Dr Yakubu Pam who was   at the Airport to address the intending pilgrims was highly delighted by the landmark airlift of intending pilgrims from Yola International Airport , being the first time ever  when intending pilgrims would be airlifted directly to the Holy Land since his assumption of office in 2020.

He thanked the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Arch. Darius Ishaiku for sponsoring such number of christians to the Holy land despite all odds. He described Gov Ishaiku as a Pilgrimage friendly Governor who has eloquent testimonies of the  benefits of christian Pilgrimage in his life .

He equally applauded the Executive Governor of Gombe  state, Gombe Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for supporting the christians in the state  to embark on Holy Pilgrimage at a time like this. He explained that though the Governor being a moslem , saw the need to sponsor christians so that they could go to the Holy land to pray.

He admonished the intending pilgrims to be good Ambassadors of Nigeria while in the Holy land. According to him,” we are concern with the image of Nigeria during Pilgrimage and as such you should conduct  yourself decently while on Pilgrimage.” He further said that outside the country the image of Nigeria is what matters and not the image of any pilgrim or state.

He cautioned them to shun abscondment as the Commission had put every mechanism in place to make abscondment impossible.

Rev Pam further told the intending pilgrims that he was proud of them for being part of the 2022 December pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan and for  having faith in Nigeria.

He further hinted that the intending pilgrims would arrive Jordan first where they would commence their Pilgrimage exercise, afterwards they would proceed to Israel to continue their visit to the Holy Sites  there.

In his welcome address, the Chairman  Adamawa State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Bishop Peter Bartimaios thanked the Executive Secretary , Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam for the choice of Yola International Airport for the airlift of the intending pilgrims of Taraba and Gombe state .

He lauded the NCPC boss for his proactive leadership.

He advised the intending pilgrims to make judicious use of this opportunity to pray for themselves and Nigeria in the Holy land.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Conference of states who also doubles as  the Chairman Taraba State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Rev Isaiah Magaji  congratulated the Taraba intending pilgrims for the opportunity provided by the Executive Governor of Taraba State for them to go on holy Pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan.

He commended the NCPC boss for his visionary leadership in sustaining Christian Pilgrimage in Nigeria.

Also speaking, the Federal Commissioner representing the North East on the Board of NCPC , Rev Dr Musa  Gelengu  thanked the Executive Secretary Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam for  his dynamic leadership and courage.

He advised the intending pilgrims to be spiritually alert in the Holy land and come back spiritually and morally transformed.

The airlift of intending pilgrims of Taraba and Gombe state was the second batch of airlift to be conducted by NCPC in the on going 2022 December pilgrimage exercise to Israel and Jordan. The first batch departed for the Holy land on 16th December, 2022 from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu , and returned on 24th December without any single case of abscondment.

The intending pilgrims of Taraba and Gombe state departed the Yola International Airport at exactly 02:03am  on 27 December, 2022  to Amman,  the Kingdom of Jordan.

NCPC Boss Congratulates Enugu Pilgrims For Successful Pilgrimage Outing In The Holy Land

The Executive Secretary Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam has congratulated the Enugu contingent to the Holy land of Israel and Jordan for a successful Pilgrimage exercise.

Rev Pam disclosed this on 25th December, 2022 following the arrival of all the Enugu pilgrims on 24th December, 2022 at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

The NCPC Pilgrims Aircraft Which conveyed the 300 pilgrims touched down at the Airport from the Holy land at about 9:30 pm local time.

The NCPC boss was particularly enthused with the smooth conduct of the Pilgrimage exercise being the first batch to be airlifted to the Holy land in the ongoing December 2022 Pilgrimage exercise.

According to him,’ the Enugu pilgrims had demonstrated good conduct in the Holy land and should be commended for arriving safely and complete”, he said.

He further stated that the fact that no single pilgrim abscondment in the Holy land means that the Commission,s target to achieve zero abscondment of pilgrims while in the Holy land is yielding the right dividend.

He lauded the efforts of the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Barr Nestor Ezeme as well as the staff of the NCPC who provided logistic support for the pilgrims in the Holy land.

Rev Pam is very optimistic that the subsequent batches of intending pilgrims would emulate the good example laid by the Enugu pilgrims.

He equally applauded the efforts of the ground handlers and air carrier for  providing excellent service to the pilgrims in the Holy land.

Rev Pam further affirmed that the Commission will continue to make Pilgrimage more spiritual centered and participatory in the coming year. He further averred that the welfare of the pilgrims is paramount and can never be compromised. 

It would be recalled that the Commission flagged off the December 2022 Pilgrimage exercise to Israel and Jordan on 16th December 2022 in Enugu which was  graced by the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who charged them to be good Ambassadors of the state and Nigeria.

NCPC Boss Urges Christians To Emulate The Virtues Of Jesus Christ At Christmas

The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam has urged Christians to emulate the virtues of our Lord Jesus Christ as we  celebrate this year’s Christmas.

The NCPC boss stated this in Abuja during his Christmas message to all christians in Nigeria and the world over .

Rev Pam affirmed that it is important for christians to emulate the virtues of our Lord and savior who was born to fulfil the purpose and promises of God for mankind. He said that Christ birth was God,s gift of love to mankind which marked a new beginning of hope and salvation for the believers.

Rev Pam further affirmed that Christ is an epitome of love, unity and oneness and as such believers are enjoined to identify with these virtues as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

He called on Christians to embrace love and humility which Christ represents as we  celebrate this year’s Yuletide.

He averred that in this season, Christians are advised to be compassionate, selfless and charitable in all their dealings with their fellow man.

Rev Pam further urged Christians to maintain peace through out this season and beyond and eschew bitterness.

He maintained that this year’s Christmas celebration is very unique for Nigerians as it is coming barely few months before the 2023 general elections.

To this effect, he admonishes Christians to ensure they pray fervently during this season for God’s intervention in our electioneering process and for a peaceful polls across the nation next year.

According to him,” our prayer as a people at this time when the nation is preparing for its general election is significant, it will go a long way to ensure smooth conduct of the 2023 general election”.

He called on church leaders to unite against divisions and de-emphasise on denominationalism.

Rev Pam cashes in on the opportunity of the Christmas to advise pilgrims already in the Holy land for the 2022 December pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan and all the intending pilgrims for subsequent batches to pray for unity  in the church and for smooth transition of power on 29th May, 2023.

The NCPC boss reaffirms the Commitment of the Commission to make pilgrimage more spiritual centered and participatory in the coming year .

He assured that pilgrimage will continue to be used as a tool for spiritual rejuvenation and moral transformation.

Rev Pam congratulates all Christians on this Special occasion of Christmas, he urges them to be calm, peaceful and joyous as we commemorate the birth of the universal King .

2023: Atiku’ll Implement PIA Host Community Fund Provision – Okowa

Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, said the Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would ensure that Petroleum Industry Act was enforced, including provision on host communities’ fund, if elected.

He said that so much fund was needed for the development of oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta, and assured that when elected, Atiku-Okowa administration would change the poor conditions in the oil-bearing area through full implementation of the Act.

Okowa made the promise at PDP’s Governorship Campaign Flag-off in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas, on Thursday, and said that Deltans were privileged to have one of their own selected to become Vice-President in the next dispensation.

He, therefore, urged all Deltans to rise and collectively support PDP, saying “we must work hard to ensure victory for the party”.

According to him, Atiku-Okowa ticket will take care of some of the teething problems facing the nation and we have resolved to ensure that our people are taken care of, particularly the oil bearing communities.

“There is a provision in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA),
that is the Host Communities Fund and we will ensure its full implementation for the benefit of the oil-bearing communities”.

On how the party intends to tackle insecurity in the country, Okowa said that Atiku Abubakar would engage relevant stakeholders to ensure constitutional amendment to legalise State Police.

“We have observed that the Federal Police is grossly inadequate to secure Nigerians and therefore, we are advocating the establishment of State Police to enable every state have its own police to handle peculiar security challenges.

“Aside the State Police, we will recruit more hands into Federal Police, procure more weapons and provide adequate logistics and intelligence gathering devices for effective policing,” he said.

Okowa announced that renovation of Warri Township Stadium would begin shortly, and disclosed that contract for the project worth N2.9 billion had been awarded earlier.

He said the renovation would include the changing of the tartan tracks, all the chairs as well as internal drainages within the stadium.

“We did not commence the renovation earlier because of the storm drainages we are constructing in Warri, but now that we have done over 70 per cent of the storm drainage project, we are about to start the Warri Stadium project.

“We will do a comprehensive renovation of the stadium and I thank you all for your patience and understanding over the years.

“After completion of the drainage, we will start construction of the roads to enable them last longer,” Okowa said.

Governorship Candidate of the party in the state, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, said Warri and Uvwie people were happy and anxiously waiting to have him, a “Warri boy”, as governor.

He assured that the development of the twin cities would receive massive boost if elected, stressing that the Uvwie, Okpe and Sapele Federal Constituency was grateful to Governor Okowa for ensuring that the area produced the next governor of the state.

“They have told me that among all the candidates, I am the only proper ‘Warri boy’. They are happy that the PDP selected one of their own to be governor.

“I am glad with the crowd here today and I can assure you that when we come into office, with the power of God and by your support, we will revive infrastructure in the twin cities of Warri, Effurun and environs,” Oborevwori stated.

State Chairman of the party, Chief Kingsley Esiso, said that Deltans had since resolved not to vote a clannish man who would appropriate everything to his village.

According to him, the people have said that they would support a bridge-builder like Sheriff Oborevwori who was known and loved by all Deltans.

He announced that the Presidential Campaign train would come to Asaba on January 24, 2023 and urged the people to turn out enmasse to welcome the Presidential candidate and his entourage.

Director-General of the State Campaign Council, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, said that only the PDP could reset the country under the astute leadership of Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa as President and Vice-President.

He urged the people to vote all candidates of the party for continued development of the state.

Leaders of the party in both Local Government Areas assured of massive support for the party candidates at all levels.

Yuletide: Delta NSCDC Deploys 2979 Personnel To Saturate The State

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Delta State Command says it has deployed a total of 2,979 of it’s personnel to provide a water tight security for the Yuletide season.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command public relations officer DSC Emeka Peters Okwechime in Asaba the State Capital. He disclosed that the state Commandant of the NSCDC Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun has meticulously approved the deployment of about 2979 Personnel of its work force to  areas considered to be flash points and red sports areas across the State to ensure a water tight security before, during and after the Yuletide.

Commandant Akinsanya said that the personnel after undergoing series of rigorous trainings, regiments, lectures, briefings and exercise. The personnel were drafted from the Counter Terrorism Unit CTU, The Snipper Combatants, Female Squad, the Crack Team, Special Forces, SWAT, the Tactical and Dislodgers Squad, Rapid Response Squad, the Rejigged Anti Vandal Squad RAS, the Department of Intelligent and Investigation, the Armament and Buffalos, Crisis Management and Disaster Department amongst others.

While advocating for a hitch Yuletide, the number one citizen of the NSCDC in the State warned against the use of fireworks before, during and after the yuletide stressing that it could induce fear, panic or apprehension in state which might also misrepresent or misinformed security agencies as some miscreant or hoodlum can hide or operate under the guise of fireworks to carry out their nefarious atrocities.

He reminded the public that ban on the use of fireworks in the State has not been lifted but still enforce so it will enable security forces to detect and determine when hoodlums are operating.

In a related development the NSCDC Boss said that the leadership of the Corp is committed to the  protection of life and property and the maintainance of peace and order in the State.

The NSCDC Commandant charged the public to renew their confidence in security agencies and they should feel free to say something when they see something. He called on mischief makers to relocate elsewhere that they cannot survive the present  security temperature of the State due to the heated security temperature of the State resulting from the robust synergy, cooperations and collaborations of various security agencies in the State. He charged the public to go about their legitimate business without fear of molestation, intimidation or apprehension Commandant Akinsanya assured.

He used the opportunity to wished every one a happy Christmas and a prosperous new year in advance.

BEDC Partners NSCDC To Protect Her Power Installations From Vandals In Delta State

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company BEDC has  partnered  with the Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Delta State Command to protect the company’s power installations across the State.

The Asaba Business/Branch Manager, Mr Henry Onovwaka who solicited for the prompt intervention of the NSCDC to protect it’s facilities from vandals.

 The BEDC Manager made the request when he received  the State Commandant of the NSCDC Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun in his office in Asaba the State Capital.

Henry emphasized on the need which necessitated the partnership between the BEDC and the NSCDC which he said that it is not limited to but include incessant vandalization of BEDC transformers, BEDC Cables, BEDC Feeder pillars, illegal Connections, Meter Bye-Pass, molestation and harassment of BEDC staff amongst others.

While narrating the nefarious activities of the Vandals, Mr Henry stated that the BEDC Transformers and other power installations in the State are being vandalized often, if not on daily basis. Hence the need to partner with the NSCDC that is statutorily empowered by act 2003 and 2007 as amended by  national Assembly as the lead agency for the protection of all government critical national assets and infrastructure which the BEDC is inclusive and falls under Mr Henry noted.

While responding to the BEDC Branch Manager, the State Commandant of the NSCDC Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun represented by the Commands Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC DSC Emeka Peters Okwechime thanked the BEDC for reposing confidence on the NSCDC.

Assuring the BEDC, Commandant Akinsanya said that the NSCDC is committed to protecting all government property within it’s jurisdictions. That the safety of life and the protection of property by the agency is sacrosanct and it is not negotiable.

The State Commandant while urging the BEDC to fulfil it’s Company’s Cooperate Social Responsibilities towards the NSCDC and others, assured the branch manager of adequate protection of all BEDC facilities and installation across the State.

In a related development, the NSCDC Boss used the opportunity to warn those in the act of vandalizing public and power installations, engaging in illegal Connections, Bye-Pass of electricity meters or sabotaging government efforts to have a rethink or will be made to face the full weight of the law if caught.

The NSCDC Big Short reminded the public that Cap (M12) paragraph 9 and 10 of the Miscellaneous Offenses Act, stipulate life imprisonment or a minimum of twenty one (21)  years jail term for offenders when caught without an option of fine.

Speaking on the right of the citizens, the NSCDC Boss called on the management of the BEDC to always observe and respect the rights of the citizen in carrying out their legitimate business. He emphasized that as a law enforcement agent protecting life and property, he will also ensure that the rights of the citizens are also protected to the latter. He further disclosed that the law made provision for a ten (10) days disconnection notice to be duly served to the consumer  before possible disconnections. That it is illegal to disconnect electricity without ten (10) days notice the State Commandant pointed out.

Yuletide Festivity: Asiuwhu Calls For Regular Clean Up, Proper Disposal Of Refuse

In a bid to keep the Environment Clean during  the yuletide season, Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu  has called on Deltans and residents of the state to keep their environment, business premises clean and beautiful.

The Commissioner made the call while speaking to newmen in  his office in  Asaba.

He said it was  necessary to ensure a healthy environment as the state would welcome more visitors and as such more waste is expected to be generated during this festive period.

He advised residents to take ownership of their environment, by cutting overgrown weeds, avoid indiscriminate refuse dump,  burning of waste, desilt their drainage, keep 20 meters away from their premises clean  to prevent unwanted diseases.

He admonished everyone to intensify more effort to manage their waste properly and dispose  resultant waste through the Private Sector Participants (PSPs)  to government approved dump site.

While wishing Deltans a merry Christmas and prosperous new year, Chief Asiuwhu said “when the environment is clean and healthy it will attract more tourism  and a  conducive environment in the state for business to strive”.

NCPC Boss Lauds Gov Uzodinma For The Soul Inspiring Yearly Christmas Carol In Imo State

The Executive Secretary  Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC Rev. Dr Yakubu Pam has lauded Sen. Hope Uzodinma for the yearly Christmas Carol  usually organized by the Imo State Government.

He  made this known  during the 2022 Christmas Carol which held at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Square on December 21, 2022 in Owerri, the state capital with the theme of the Christmas carol is  “Celebrate Christ the Messiah”.

The NCPC Boss expressed delight that such a big religious gathering. He praised Gov. Uzodinma for setting a standard and keeping to it. He called on other Governors to emulate what Sen. Hope Uzodinma is doing in Imo State as he said , “I want to call on other Governors and the entire country by extension to learn from you, this is very commendable”.

 He added,  “If there’s anything we need today is to have Governors like you who will bring people together not on a social club nor a political arena but only in a place dedicated to worship God”.

The NCPC helmsman called on the people of Imo State to take the Christmas message very serious and see it as a time to reconcile all differences as Jesus died so that man can be reconciled with God, adding  that “what ever has been the line of division in the State it is time to advocate for unity and oneness after all power comes from God and He gives it to who ever he deems fit.

Also speaking on the forthcoming 2023 elections, the NCPC Scribe said, “I pray that the 2023 elections will not become a means of division but rather be used as a cause  for unity”. He charged the youths  not to  be  instruments of  destruction of Peace and Progress.

The NCPC Chief Executive thanked the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN for the job well done in planning and organising the Carol in collaboration with the Imo State Government. He described the Imo State CAN Chairman as a leader of influence for being able to gather people of timber and calibre at the grand Carol.

The NCPC Helmsman used the opportunity to announce  that the 2022 general pilgrimage exercise is ongoing with about 300 Enugu State Pilgrims in Israel and the Kingdom of Jordan presently on pilgrimage, he further disclosed that the pilgrimage exercise will run through March/ April 2023 hopefully. He called on Sen. Uzodinma and all well meaning interested individuals to do well and key into the present ongoing Pilgrimage exercise.

The Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma in his speech thanked God Almighty for being able to host and hold such a Carol despite all challenges that were faced in the State last year. “It is very clear to me that God has answered our prayers, so we are going into the Christmas jubilant and happy. He added that “the Egyptians you saw yesterday you shall see them no more”.

Sen. Uzodinma extended his love to his people while explaining that he understands the economic hardship going on as he expressed optimism that things would definitely get better.

He urged his people saying, “as long as you have faith in God and rely on him, He is  strong to do all things and  God will strengthen me to discharge my best to my people and serve my father land.                  

NCPC Boss Rev Pam Bags Icon Of Most Outstanding Inter-Religious Harmony Award

The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam has bagged ICON OF MOST OUTSTANDING INTER-RELIGIOUS HARMONY AWARD.

The award which was presented to him in Abuja on 20th December, 2022 by the Aluta Media Limited, Publishers of Aluta news.

The Publisher of Aluta news , Comrade Gambo Suleiman in his remarks, commended the NCPC boss for his selfless service in the area of Peace , youth and inter-faith harmony over the years.

He explained that the Board of Aluta news considered him worthy and deserving of the award for his contributions to the dignity of humanity regardless of faith.

The Publisher hinted that the award was slated for the Third anniversary of Aluta news which took place on 2nd December, 2022 in Abuja , but the Board decided to come as a team to formally present the award to the Executive Secretary as a mark of honour to his personality and office.

In his words,” you breached the gap between the two religion because of the way you carry pilgrimage”.

In his remarks, the NCPC boss said the Publisher of Aluta news is well connected with the grass root which explains why he was able to come with other credible youth based organizations.

He affirmed that the Bloggers and social media are doing great ; they are the ones speaking the facts that are hidden, they speak the minds of the people.

The Executive Secretary further said that Bloggers who are genuinely working for the progress of humanity and the country should be supported.

He decried those who use their platforms to discredit the good policies of the government.

The NCPC boss also canvassed for support for the youth,” stating that Nigerians should support them so as to give them a chance to prove their mettle”, he said.

Rev Pam called on Nigerians to do everything  possible to make sure that the Labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.

He assured the Publisher of Aluta news that the Commission would work together with his organization to  promote the country.
