In preparation of youths towards the task of nation building, the National Youth Service Corps, Delta State has commenced a three weeks orientation training for a total of 1,911 prospective Corps members in the state.
The state coordinator of the Corps, Mr Olusegun Alao gave the disclosure during the swearing in ceremony of the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course for Corps Members deployed to the state at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele uku.
He said various lectures, activities such as culture, traditions and language of the people of Delta State, ideals and operations of the NYSC, leadership training, sports and games, security, paramilitary drills, skills acquisition and entrepreneurial development, and many more, have been outlined for their orientation exercise.
The State Cordinator said upon completion of the training, the corps members will be posted to the nooks and crannies of the 25 local government councils, in line with the NYSC posting policy to the four major sectors of the economy, namely health, education, rural infrastructure, and agriculture.
He said the corps members since their arrival have been submissive to all camp rules and regulations, which was a proof that they were willing to embrace the tenets of the Service Corps.
While appreciating the governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering support to the NYSC, he appeal to the state government to expedite action in fulfilling the promise of a new 150 kVA diesel generator and camp regulator fence, which would assist greatly in safeguarding government’s huge investment in the camp.
Mr Alao appreciated the chairman and members of the NYSC State Government Board, as well as the collaborating agencies, for being a source of inspiration and also the royal father of Issele Uku, HRM. Agbogidi Obi Nduka for his sustained support towards the scheme.
Speaking the governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori who was represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Johnbull Tonukari, said the Corps over the years, has become an enduring vehicle for the mobilization and sensitization of the youths of Nigeria to their responsibilities.
He said his administration is committed to strengthening the scheme in the state and enhancing its capacity to meet its significant mandate of nurturing in our young graduates, because of the critical role of the NYSC scheme plays in national integration and development efforts.
He said his MORE agenda focuses on institutional and structural reforms as part of an overall program of sustained Guy growth and development.
“We are committed to vigorously pursuing the rebuilding, maintenance, upgrade and expansion of our critical infrastructure’, he said.
The governor charged them to live up to the scheme’s objective of fostering bridges of love, harmony, and productive integration across the country.
